Chapter 71 Warning Margaret!
Margaret was furious. "What do you mean he can afford it? Is he rich? That good-for-nothing is shameless, he's just seeking a way out at this point."
Margaret gave William a disdainful look and sneered. "You don't need our $500,000? Can you afford it yourself? Fine, if you're so capable now, don't even look at our family. Well, then, hurry up and divorce Mary. With my daughter's beauty, she won't have any trouble marrying into a wealthy family!"
William's face darkened, and he said helplessly. "Margaret, I actually have it."
"What do you have? You want to say you have money?" Margaret sneered, then pointed at him and Sarah. "If it weren't for the both of you, would Mary have suffered so much? How could I face my family? Don't argue with me about this. Our family doesn't want you. Leave with this illegitimate child."
Ever since Mary married William, Margaret had never been fond of him. Especially after William's business failure and accumulating a mountain of debt, Margaret's hostility toward him had only intensified. She would often boss him around and make his life miserable.
Moreover, because William and Mary had a child out of wedlock, Margaret felt that she had lost her dignity in front of her family. Her own father's attitude toward her had also changed for the worse.
For this, Margaret harbored a deep resentment toward William. William remained silent. He knew that his mother-in-law had a long-standing bias against him. Even if he were to tell her now that he was wealthy and influential, Margaret wouldn't believe him; she would only mock him.
Unable to bear it any longer, Mary spoke up, her face cold. "Mom, can you stop causing trouble? We've all seen how you've treated William over the years. Has he ever complained? Do you have to force me to divorce him?"
Mary was not someone without a temper, but she found it difficult to confront her mother. However, today, she couldn't hold back any longer.
"Yes! Both of you must get divorced today, and I've already arranged for you to go on a blind date in a few days. I think Jeffrey and Matthew would be good potential matches," Margaret said angrily.
She was probably unaware that Matthew's family had been arrested despite the news being all over the media.
Mary couldn't be bothered to argue with Margaret anymore. She turned to William and asked. "William, do you really have a way to cure Sarah's illness?"
William turned to her with a smile and said, "Don't worry, I've already made arrangements for Sarah to be hospitalized this afternoon."
Mary nodded, feeling a sense of relief.
"What do you mean, hospitalized?" Margaret sensed that something was off and quickly said to Mary. "Mary, do you really believe this good-for-nothing? How much money do either of you have left to treat Sarah?
"Mary, I'm not forcing you to reconsider. I'm doing this for your own good. Tell me, what hope do you have if you spend your life with him?" Margaret changed her approach, trying to persuade her.
However, Mary was not grateful. She said, "Are you doing this for my sake or for your own?"
Mary knew her mother's character and temperament very well. Margaret's actions were simply an attempt to marry her off to a wealthy man, to save face and gain respect in front of her family.
She didn't really care if her daughter was happy or not.
As soon as Margaret heard this, she became furious, feeling as if she had been stepped on. She was so angry that she couldn't breathe properly, and she cursed. "Mary, what do you mean? Am I not allowed to look out for your best interests?"
Margaret was driven mad by her daughter's foolishness and her support for an outsider.
Mary couldn't be bothered to deal with her. She turned around and was about to leave with William.
How could Margaret let them go? She immediately sat on the ground, wailing and pounding her chest. "Oh my God, you don't want me to live, do you? My son-in-law is useless, and my daughter is siding with an outsider. What am I supposed to do? I might as well die."
Seeing Margaret's dramatic reaction, Mary felt a headache coming on and quickly ran over to her, trying to calm her down.
But Margaret refused to get up, pushed Mary's hand away, and continued to cry and pound her chest. "If you don't get divorced today, I'll take rat poison and weed killer."
Mary was extremely frustrated and said, "Mom, can you please stop making a scene?"
"A scene?" Margaret immediately got up, exasperated, and said, "I think you've been hypnotized by this good-for-nothing. How can you believe what he says? He's been with us for three years. What has he done for our family? What has he done for you? When you got married, his parents didn't even come to see us. Are they dead, or do they look down on us?"
Margaret's words were too harsh.
She cursed her in-laws to death.
If Margaret knew that her in-laws were the wealthiest family in the world, how would she react?
William's face instantly darkened.
Mary was also angry and said, "Mom, how can you say that? Can't you consider other people's feelings? William is your son-in-law. Aren't you afraid of being laughed at for saying such things?
"Today, right now, I'm telling you that I won't divorce William. If you want to cut ties with me, go ahead!" Mary's temper flared.
At that moment, Margaret was consumed with anger. She raised her hand in fury and slapped Mary across the face!
The crisp sound of the slap echoed in the room!
Margaret cursed. "Fine, get out of this house! Don't ever come back! You can no longer call me your mother!"
Seeing Mary being slapped, William's heart clenched, his eyes burning with anger as he glared at Margaret, wishing he could tear her apart!
Even though she was his mother-in-law, William was determined to teach her a lesson for bullying Mary!
Putting Sarah aside, William walked over, his face looking terrifying.
Margaret was also taken aback and exclaimed. "What are you going to do?"
"You shouldn't have hit Mary," William said coldly, his fist clenched tightly, trembling slightly.
Mary immediately stepped in front of William, her face red from the slap, which looked so glaring. "William, don't do anything rash. Let's just go home."
She was really afraid that William would do something terrible.
If that happened, it would be irreparable.
"Okay." William's gaze gradually softened.
Margaret, who had been tense, became furious when she saw Mary stopping William. "Unbelievable! What were you trying to do just now? Were you trying to hit me?"
William looked at Margaret with cold eyes, not giving an inch. This was the first time he had shown such dominance in the Smith family.
Seeing William's gaze fixed on her, Margaret instinctively felt a sense of guilt and took a few steps back, as if she was facing not a good-for-nothing, but a fierce tiger.
How terrifying! How could this good-for-nothing exude such an aura?
Tyler, sensing that something was amiss, immediately stood up and said to William. "What are you trying to do? She is your mother-in-law! Are you really going to use force against her?"
William let out a sigh and looked at Margaret and Tyler, saying coldly. "I'm warning you, don't force Mary to do anything she doesn't want to do."
With that, William left the Smith family with Mary and Sarah.
After they left, Margaret was drenched in sweat, and she collapsed on the couch, completely drained.
After a moment, she gritted her teeth in hatred and shouted in a frenzy. "Tyler, that good-for-nothing has gone too far! He even dared to threaten us! Who does he think he is?"
Margaret was just bluffing, and she was still feeling extremely anxious.
Tyler could only shake his head helplessly and said, "Can't you calm down for a few days? Do you have to break up our daughter's marriage?"
"What do you mean? Are you pretending to be a good person now? Can my daughter have a good life with that good-for-nothing?" Margaret, unable to vent her anger on William, directed all her frustration toward Tyler. "Don't forget, in a few days, it'll be our father's 70th birthday. Are you really planning to bring that good-for-nothing and the illegitimate child to celebrate with us?"
Tyler was well aware of his wife's character.
She would eventually turn their family upside down, causing chaos and unrest.
He shook his head and said, "I'm going out for a walk."
After saying that, he left in a hurry.
Margaret gritted her teeth in anger and muttered viciously. "I will find a way to make Mary divorce that good-for-nothing!"
Meanwhile, William and Mary left the Smith family and headed straight to the hospital.
William said that Sarah could be admitted to the hospital that afternoon. Mary was always curious about the doctor William had contacted. He said it was Professor Charles, but Mary didn't believe it. After all, he was a legendary figure in the medical field.
Could William really get him to come?
Unfortunately, as soon as Mary and William arrived at the hospital, they ran into Jeffrey.
"Mary, why didn't you tell me you were discharged?" Jeffrey walked over.
Mary smiled and said, "Jeffrey, I'm sorry, I was just discharged last night and didn't have a chance to tell you."
Mary was grateful to Jeffrey for his help over the years. But the more he helped, the more uncomfortable she felt.
"By the way, what are you here for?" Jeffrey looked at Sarah in William's arms, feeling puzzled.
"Arranging for Sarah to be hospitalized. William said he contacted a doctor and asked us to be hospitalized for a while," Mary said truthfully.
Jeffrey was taken aback and then sneered. "Mary, how can you listen to William? What kind of good doctor can he contact? What if Sarah's condition worsens? I've already contacted Charles. He happens to be coming today to see a special patient, and I've asked him to take a look at Sarah on the way."
As he spoke, he looked at William with a smug expression.
But William didn't even bother to respond, he was busy playing with Sarah.
"No. it's not necessary. William has already made the arrangements." Mary found it difficult to refuse.
To be honest, she really wanted Charles to take a look at Sarah but William had already made the arrangements. If she listened to Jeffrey now, it would seem as if she didn't trust William.
Jeffrey's face changed, and he turned to William, asking with a forced smile. "William, what kind of doctor did you contact? Is he reliable?"
William replied calmly. "Don't you know who Charles is coming to see today?"
