Chapter 46 How Much Does It Cost to Buy the Victory Grand Hotel?
William raised an eyebrow and saw a familiar face smirking back at him with a mocking grin.
"Adam King?"
William's brow furrowed slightly. Adam was his college classmate, a rival who had also pursued Mary back in the day.
In the end, Mary chose the talented William.
So, in this respect, Adam had always harbored some resentment.
He believed he was no worse than William, so why had Mary chosen him?
Moreover, Adam had heard that William was doing poorly now, having failed in his business endeavors and was earning money by delivering food. His daughter had a congenital heart condition, and his marriage with Mary was also falling apart.
The worse William's situation seemed, the more Adam hated him.
Men tend to harbor grudges about their college loves being taken by someone else.
What a loser, causing the woman he liked to suffer!
"Holy shit, it really is you, Adam."
Adam laughed as he approached, patting William on the shoulder. "It's been four years, hasn't it? Haven't seen you in a long time. I heard you've switched to food delivery? How much do you make a month? It should be quite a sum."
Adam's words were dripping with condescension and mockery, making them uncomfortable to hear.
William's brows knitted together, and he replied with a smile. "I get by."
Adam chuckled knowingly, aware that William was just putting on a brave face. He then pulled out a gleaming golden card and handed it to William with an air of superiority.
"Next time you want to eat or have a gathering here, just call me. For the sake of old times, I can give you a discount."
William calmly glanced at the gold card, which bore the name Adam, Victory Grand Hotel manager.
Indeed, Adam came from an extraordinary background.
Just a few years after graduation, he became the manager of the Victory Grand Hotel.
The Victory Grand Hotel was a renowned establishment in Lindwood City. It was a national chain, a five-star hotel! Being a manager there meant Adam was quite capable.
William's lips twitched slightly as he nodded and said with a smile, "Thanks."
Adam's eyes shone with smugness as he replied, "What's there to thank me for? You probably won't come here often, maybe once a year at most. As an old classmate, I can give you a discount. Besides, as a delivery guy, you might not be able to afford this place. I heard your daughter is sick and needs money, so I'm helping out for Mary's sake."
Towards the end, Adam deliberately emphasized the words 'daughter' and 'Mary.'
It seemed like Adam had suddenly remembered something and said, "I heard you're getting a divorce from Mary, is that true? Both of you were the envy of us all back then. Only three years into your marriage and you're splitting up? I remember now, it was a shotgun wedding, wasn't it? I must say, you really know how to roll with the punches."
Adam spoke with a face full of smiles, but his words were laden with sarcasm.
William calmly replied, "Whether Mary and I get a divorce or not, what's it to you?"
Adam didn't take offense and sighed. "William, don't take it the wrong way, but what future is there in food delivery? You were our idol in college, so spirited. I admired you back then, but how did you end up like this?"
William's eyes narrowed slightly.
Adam was a despicable person, seemingly catching up on old times, but his every word was a veiled attack.
With that arrogant, provocative expression, he didn't even respect William, his old classmate.
"It doesn't matter, I believe in you. Although you're only delivering food now, with some effort, you could move up to courier work. Once you and Mary are divorced, I will definitely pursue her. After all these years, I still think of her."
Adam shrugged and added, "And don't forget the class reunion next month. You must come and bring Mary along. You haven't attended for two years now. What, are you afraid we'll laugh at you?"
William gave a faint smile. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"Nothing much, just that when you see someone so pathetic, you can't help but feel sympathy. Seeing how poorly you're doing, I feel at ease." Adam laughed heartily.
What else could he say?
Of course, he was mocking you, idiot!
At this moment, all the frustration and dissatisfaction in his heart vanished upon seeing William as miserable as a stray dog. He felt so good!
He stared at William, wanting to see a trace of shame and embarrassment on his face.
But William maintained a calm demeanor.
Pretending, keep pretending!
William spread his hands and shrugged. "Adam, do you think you're so great? Life is long; how can you be so sure I won't surpass you in status one day?"
After speaking, William stuffed the golden card into Adam's suit pocket and prepared to leave.
Adam was annoyed.
William was down and out, yet he dared to be so arrogant.
Back in college, Adam was always outshone by William.
Wherever William was, Adam was barely noticeable.
So now, seeing William in such a sorry state and with such a huge gap in status, he felt immensely satisfied.
He wanted to ridicule and humiliate him, to take back what he had lost once.
Including Mary.
"William, what's the rush? It's rare for old classmates to meet. Let's talk some more." Adam followed him.
William's eyebrows were tightly knitted, his expression dark.
He didn't think he had much in common with Adam. With friends like this, he really didn't need enemies. Adam had changed and become opportunistic.
William shook his head and said coldly. "Adam, I always thought you were a loser. Turns out, you still are."
Adam trembled. "What did you say?"
He didn't expect those words to come from William, the good-for-nothing.
Calling him a loser?
Who was the real loser?
"Do you think being the manager of the Victory Grand Hotel makes you so amazing that you can flaunt your superiority in front of me and look down on us delivery folks? Do you think you're better than us?" William sneered.
He had been patient for a long time.
He didn't want to make a fuss, but constant forbearance only leads to worse behavior!
"William, you're such a joke." Adam laughed mockingly, his face full of ridicule. "I, the manager of the Victory Grand Hotel, earn forty thousand a month! As a delivery person, striving relentlessly, making just shy of six thousand, a bit over five thousand. In terms of identity, status, wealth, and connections, where do you surpass me? What makes you superior to me, William? Are you trying to assert your superiority over me? Indeed, I am more impressive than you. Don't you agree?"
Adam couldn't stand it any longer. William, looking like a loser, was still trying to act cool in front of him.
"Weren't you quite impressive back in college, with a bunch of female classmates chasing after you? Why are you now working as a delivery person? Let me make it clear to you: delivery folks are considered losers, they are despicable! Additionally, laborers and couriers are all individuals at the bottom rung of society. In my perspective, they are all trash! I simply have disdain for you all, and what of it?" Adam said with a smug face.
Adam's words offended William unintentionally and offended William's colleagues even more.
Suddenly, sixty or seventy people were not pleased!
They stepped forward, faces cold, and surrounded Adam.
"We're all delivery guys. You think you're something special as a manager? You're still working for someone else!"
"What's going on here, I heard someone saying delivery guys are trash. What are you, some kind of superhero, something special?"
"Damn it! People like him, I'll knock him out! So disgusting!"
Instantly, the lobby erupted into chaos.
People started to get physical, grabbing Adam and throwing punches!
Then, a dozen security guards rushed over, protecting Adam behind them and confronting William and his group.
"Fuck! Hit me, I dare you! What are you waiting for? Kick these beggars out!"
Adam adjusted his suit, touched the cheek where he'd been punched, and cursed loudly.
In an instant, the security team surrounded William and his group, but they didn't dare to act because there were too many of them.
They all stood firmly behind William, glaring fiercely at Adam.
"Fine, you idiots don't want to leave? Alright, if you don't want to leave today, you'll only have yourself to blame for what happens!" Adam glared coldly at William.
With that, he pulled out his phone and called the security department. "Get over here, all of you, and handle this!"
He was feeling very pleased, as if he could already see the scene of William being embarrassingly kicked out of the hotel.
'Just a bunch of stinking delivery guys trying to act tough with me. They're asking for it!'
At that moment, the captain of the security team approached. Seeing the situation, he panicked and hurried over.
"What's going on, Adam?"
"You're just in time. Kick these beggars out for me!"
"No, Adam, they are honored guests of the hotel!"
The captain of the security team was flustered, although unclear about what had happened, it was obvious that Adam was making things difficult for William and the others.
"What do you mean? These delivery guys are honored guests of our hotel?" Adam sneered, his face full of mockery, and slapped the captain across the face. "Who's the manager here? If I tell you to kick them out, you kick them out!"
He was angry that the security captain dared to defy him.
"Adam, these gentlemen are indeed honored guests of our hotel. The one hundred BMW motorcycles outside belong to these guests. If you really kick them out and something happens, I can't take responsibility for this."
The captain of the security team was slightly annoyed but didn't show it. Adam was always arrogant and overbearing, and they had tolerated it, but these people were clearly important guests, and he still wanted to evict them.
If the Boss found out, he would definitely be fired!
Hearing the captain's words, Adam laughed. "What? A hundred BMW motorcycles? Are you fucking kidding me?"
Adam was truly amused.
He had seen the BMW motorcycles parked outside and was envious.
He hadn't expected such a rich and important guest to come to his hotel. He was originally here to curry favor with them, but then he ran into William, so he mocked him a few times.
Now, someone was telling him that the delivery bikes belonged to William, the loser.
It had to be a joke!
However, just then, William calmly took out his phone and dialed George's number. "George, how much would it cost to buy the Victory Grand Hotel?"
