Chapter 317 Harper's Invitation
As Mary was about to take a sip, the bedroom door opened. Sarah ran in crying, pouting and looking very upset.
"Mommy," Sarah called out in her sweet childlike voice and immediately threw herself into Mary's arms.
Mary had to put down the cup, hold Sarah on her lap, and asked with a smile, "What's wrong, baby? Why are you unhappy?"
Sitting on Mary's lap, Sarah, smelling the fragrance on Mary, said, "I want to go out and play."
Mary thought for a moment and said, "Okay, in a little while, I'll take you out to play, alright?"
Sarah nodded vigorously, kissed Mary on the cheek, then took Mary to her bedroom to show her the mermaid princess doll.
Mary had no choice. Since she had a day off, she decided to play with Sarah.
Lucy was cleaning and walked into the master bedroom. When she saw the two cups of coffee on the table, she casually took them downstairs and poured them out.
Meanwhile, William had received a call from George. On the phone, George respectfully said, "Sir, we found Ambrose. He is currently not in Unityland."
William, in the sky garden, asked with a frown, "Then where is he?"
He should never have sent Ambrose abroad in the first place. Ambrose was a lawless man and had never respected any laws or constraints.
"Radiant Harbor City," George replied. At that moment, he was in a restaurant, surrounded by six or seven bodyguards, with a voluptuous woman sitting across from him.
He had gotten the information about Ambrose from her.
William frowned slightly. Why had Ambrose gone to Radiant Harbor City?
He had an agreement with Ambrose that if something happened, William would send someone to find him. They couldn't have direct contact, a precaution William took to avoid unnecessary trouble.
"Alright, I got it," William said, then added, "By the way, George, I need you to do something else for me."
"Sir, just say it," George replied respectfully.
"Go back to the island and get my father's decree to lift the ban. I can't do anything with the ban in place," William said with a troubled expression.
"Sir, that won't be easy. The guards at the island castle have all been replaced by Jessica's people. Our people make up less than one-tenth of the staff there, and even your father's personal nurse is in Jessica's pocket," George said.
"I know, try to get in touch with my father. If it doesn't work, I'll go back to the island myself," William said, his eyes dark, having already made a decision.
Hearing that, George trembled and said, "Sir, are you going back to the island?"
William did not refute and said, "If absolutely necessary, I will take Mary and Sarah back. You should start preparing early."
"Yes, I'll return to the country immediately," George replied excitedly. If William returned to the island, his identity of the Jones family heir would be confirmed.
However, George was also very worried and asked, "But if you go back, won't Jessica stop you? You have an agreement with her."
William said quietly, "I met with her today. The agreement is no longer valid. Our war has already begun. From now on, she will have no scruples and will do everything she can against me. So, I must lift the family ban as soon as possible. I need my own strength to protect Mary and Sarah."
Yes, the events of the morning had already set the stage for a new level of conflict between William and Jessica.
Without the constraints of the agreement, Jessica would use more aggressive tactics.
William had to prepare early to deal with any unexpected situations.
Both the Miller family and the elders from the Jones family's offshoots were waiting for his return, ready to coerce him.
After hanging up the phone, William turned and went back to the villa.
Coincidentally, he received a text message from Harper.
Harper: [William, are you free for dinner tonight?]
To his surprise, Harper had taken the initiative to ask him out.
William frowned slightly, thinking a lot for a moment.
William: [Okay.]
After speaking briefly to Mary, he prepared to go out.
Mary was taking Sarah out to play, so they went out together.
Margaret was in the living room. When she saw William coming downstairs, she asked, "William, did you drink the coffee?"
Coffee?
William shook his head and said, "No, I have something to do. I'm leaving."
Margaret was momentarily speechless as she watched William leave, feeling very puzzled.
Thinking about it, she hurried upstairs and found it had already been cleaned up.
"Lucy!" Margaret shouted angrily.
William met Harper at a restaurant. Harper, who had arrived early, was dressed very simply but still outshone any woman because of her good looks and excellent temperament. Even in a simple white dress, she attracted the attention of most men in the restaurant.
Harper saw William walking in from the entrance, happily waved her hand, and smiled brightly.
William waved back, made his way through the crowd, and sat down in front of Harper, pulling out a chair.
Harper smiled and handed him the menu, saying, "This is a new restaurant that has a lot of delicious food. Take a look and see what you want to eat."
William didn't stand on ceremony, and picked up the menu. After scanning it for a while, he randomly ordered a few dishes, saying, "These will do. I don't really know what to eat."
Then, he asked, "Harper, why did you invite me over? Do you need something?"
The Price family from Radiant Harbor City was William's mother, Aurora's family.
William had been secretly gathering information on them, but Radiant Harbor City was very different.
It was very complex.
It involved many forces, including many foreign ones.
In recent years, they had intentionally reduced their domestic market.
William couldn't understand why they had done this.
What had happened back then that made a family, second only to the Jones family, sacrifice so much to protect themselves?
Harper didn't beat around the bush and got straight to the point. "It's about the last time. I'mhoping to talk to your wife."
William asked curiously, "Is this your idea or the Price family's idea?"
Harper replied, "It's my family's idea. They found out that BK Pharmaceuticals has a new anti-cancer drug that looks very promising for the local and global markets. I believe you've been with your wife long enough to know this. If this drug is launched nationwide and then goes abroad, the potential value won't just be in the billions, but in the trillions. With such immense benefits, it's certain that people will be tempted to get involved. There will be both good and bad, and by then, BK Pharmaceuticals will face not only competition from local pharmaceutical companies in Lindwood City but also increased interference from entities across the country and even globally."
Harper said a lot in one breath, explaining the current situation of BK Pharmaceuticals to William.
In fact, William had been paying attention to this issue for a long time, which was why he had brought Bennett back from abroad.
BK Pharmaceuticals now held the golden key to a new world.
More people would have their eyes on it in the future.
The Cater family from Sunshine Bay City, the Henderson family from Imperial City, the Miller family, and now the Price family from Radiant Harbor City were all examples of parties who wanted to get involved.
William wasn't in a hurry and took a sip of tea before asking, "Are you saying your family can help us?"
Harper chuckled and said, "That's right. Although we have reduced our market, we still have a good foundation. As long as we work together, we can mutually benefit and open up a new world. By then, you and Mary can just sit back and wait for the money to roll in."
Harper spoke excitedly but truthfully.
This was the potential value of BK Pharmaceuticals' new drug.
William had already studied this with Bennett and others.
William smiled, politely declining. "Your proposal is very good, but I need to think about it. After all, I can't make the decision alone. I need to discuss it with Mary. You know, I'm just a freeloader."
William refused because he wasn't familiar with the Price family and didn't know their true intentions.
Harper glanced at William, feeling very curious about him, and said, "You are a very special man. It's the first time I've seen someone admit to being a freeloader so straightforwardly."
William chuckled.
Harper had investigated William and found him to be a nobody. If he had any characteristics, it was that he was cowardly, afraid of his wife, and afraid of his mother-in-law.
He was a famous wimp in Lindwood City.
Moreover, he was good at fighting.
She had witnessed it herself when she and Betty attended a dinner.
William had actually beaten people from the Gonzales family of Imperial City, and recently, he had beaten people from the Cater family of Sunshine Bay City and the Henderson family of Imperial City.
Because of that incident, the entire Henderson family of Imperial City had gone mad.
If Harper hadn't used the Price family to suppress the matter, William would probably be dead by now.
"I'm very curious, who exactly are you? I remember a while ago there was a rumor in Lindwood City about a top-tier second-generation rich kid. I wonder if that was you," Harper suddenly asked, staring intently at William.
"Who?" William asked with a smile.
"The young master of the Jones Group from Imperial City, Mr. Jones," Harper said, staring at him, trying to read his expression.
