Chapter 289 Checking Bank Account Balance

William explained, "Don't worry, Mary. Bennett was introduced to me by a friend. You don't need to overthink it. Just focus on managing the company."

Mary hesitated, wanting to ask more, but the door suddenly swung open.

Margaret stood outside with a big smile on her face. Ignoring the expressions of the two inside, she walked in and asked with a grin, "I just heard you say the company's issue is resolved?"

"Mom, why are you always eavesdropping?" Mary asked angrily, raising her eyebrows.

Margaret showed no respect; this wasn't the first time she had eavesdropped.

Margaret rolled her eyes at Mary. Ignoring her, she turned to William with a smile, asking, "William, did you solve it? You have such capable friends? When will you invite them over for a meal? After all, they helped our family a lot."

Margaret's expression was very kind.

William chuckled lightly and said, "Margaret, what are you scheming now?"

Margaret frowned. William dared to call her by her first name.

'Forget it,' she thought, considering he solved Mary's company crisis.

"No, I'm just thinking for you guys. After all, we owe them a big favor," Margaret spoke sincerely, leaving Mary and William unable to refute.

"Alright, honey, just agree with my mom. Next time, invite your friend over for a meal so we can thank him in person," Mary said, holding William's hand.

William felt helpless; that friend was himself.

"Alright, I'll let him know, but I can't guarantee he'll come. He's currently abroad," William said.

He made up an excuse, hoping to buy some time for him.

Meanwhile, in a brightly lit hall in Cloud Peak Manor, Jessica stood by the large floor-to-ceiling window, holding a purebred white royal Persian cat with heterochromatic eyes, looking very docile.

Behind her, Evander bowed slightly, his body trembling.

"Ms. Miller, what should we do now? BK Pharmaceuticals has secured a new investment. Who is so bold to ignore the Miller family's sanctions?" Evander asked.

Evander was infuriated, believing that capturing Lindwood City would elevate the Cater family's status.

But plans couldn't keep up with changes.

Now, only Jessica could resolve this.

Jessica's face was icy as she turned around, the Persian cat in her arms meowing softly.

"I know. You don't need to worry about this. Just follow my orders," Jessica said coldly, her tone chilling, making Evander shiver.

Evander hesitated for a long time before mustering the courage to ask, "Ms. Miller, I've been puzzled for a long time. Who exactly is Mary's husband, William? I've investigated him. He's just an ordinary nobody. But why do I feel he's not simple, and I seem to have seen him somewhere before?"

Jessica looked at Evander coldly and said, "Don't ask what you shouldn't. Just do your job."

Her words made Evander tremble as he sensed the threat in her tone.

William was indeed not simple!

Jessica left the hall, followed by Zoe, who gave Evander a piercing glance filled with malice.

The next morning, William prepared to go to the hospital to bring Sarah home for recovery and have Lucy take care of her at the villa.

As he descended, he found Margaret had prepared a rich breakfast, smiling and waving at him. "William, I made breakfast for you. Come and eat."

William felt a bit overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. As he looked at the dining table, he saw that Tyler and Mary were already seated.

The three exchanged puzzled looks, unsure of what Margaret was up to.

"What are you looking at? Eat up." Margaret said with a smile.

The three smiled helplessly, thinking Margaret had changed.

"Mom, see how nice it is for our family to get along like this. You don't need to give William the cold shoulder anymore," Mary said, drinking her milk with a smile.

Margaret nodded repeatedly in agreement, saying, "Yes, you're right."

Then she turned to William, sincerely saying, "William, I was wrong before. I was foolish and did many things to wrong you. Please don't take it to heart. I apologize."

Saying this, Margaret pulled a chair, about to kneel.

William quickly pulled her up and said, "Mom, what are you doing? This is too much."

"Margaret, William is not petty. He's magnanimous and won't hold a grudge," Tyler said with a smile, glad Margaret had finally changed.

The meal was very pleasant for everyone. After eating, Mary and William drove out of the villa together.

One went to the company to handle investment matters, and the other went to the hospital to pick up Sarah.

Tyler went to walk his bird and play chess.

Margaret stood at the door, waving goodbye to Mary with a big smile. Once the BMW was out of sight, her kind smile immediately turned stiff.

She promptly returned indoors, neglecting to clear the breakfast table, and directly went upstairs to the bedroom of William and Mary. She rummaged through their belongings and found their bank cards.

Holding the cards, she thought for a moment, then quickly grabbed her purse and rushed out of the upscale residential area, hailing a cab to the bank.

Why was Margaret stealing the cards?

Because she suddenly remembered something from last night—when she checked the balance at the bank, she saw a hundred billion dollars!

Everyone said she had seen it  wrong, and even the bank claimed it was a system error.

But Margaret didn't believe it; she wanted to verify it.

William had already arrived at the hospital and met Sarah and Lucy.

Sarah, in her sweet little voice, called out "Daddy" and threw herself into William's arms.

William lifted Sarah, smiling broadly and saying, "Did you miss me?"

"Yes," Sarah replied with a cute and obedient smile.

Lucy watched them, a smile appearing on her face.

"Lucy, pack up. We're going home," William said.

On the way back to the villa, William suddenly received a call from Abigail, saying she needed to talk to him.

After thinking for a moment, William told Lucy to take Sarah back to the villa first, and then he took a cab to the company.

In a café, William was waiting and saw Abigail walking over. Her stunning figure immediately caught the attention of many customers.

She was truly beautiful!

Her curvaceous figure and full bosom were the focus of men's fantasies, while her slender waist and refined features captured their attention.

William leaned by the window, enjoying the breeze and sipping his coffee, and asked with a grin, "What brings you to me so early? Are you planning to treat me to a meal for what happened last night?"

"Treating you to a meal is a given, but I do need your help with something," Abigail said after hesitating for a long time.

"Go ahead. What is it?" William asked.

He noticed the change in Abigail's expression, her brows slightly furrowed, indicating her current state of anxiety.

"Quinlan called me, asking me to return the money. He wants to meet this afternoon, or else..." Abigail trailed off, looking worried.

"Or else what?" William asked again.

"He said if I don't return the million dollars, he'll have his guys harass me every day, block my house, and even..." Abigail spoke softly, her fear evident. She didn't finish her sentence, but William could guess what she meant.

If Quinlan's men really did that, it would be a threat to Abigail's personal safety!

"Has that guy's leg healed? How dare he talk so big! They're just trying to scare a young girl like you," William sneered.

"What should I do? I'm scared. Maybe I should return the money. After all, it is his," Abigail said worriedly. She was just a young girl and had never dealt with such things. When faced with thugs, all she could do was scream.

"Return it? No way. That money is his compensation to you. If he wants it back, he has to go through me!" William said sternly.

"Ah, so what do you mean?" Abigail asked, confused. She had come to William to seek his advice.

"It's simple. He wants to meet you at noon, right? I'll go with you. That should put you at ease," William said with a smile. "To deal with someone like him, you need to be tough and show him we're not to be messed with!"

Abigail hesitated for a long time, seemingly pondering William's words.

William reassured her, "Don't worry. With me there, nothing will happen."

Abigail finally smiled and nodded in agreement, saying, "Alright, I'll listen to you."

They exchanged smiles, but William's eyes inadvertently drifted to Abigail's chest!

William marveled inwardly, 'Abigail's chest seems to have grown even larger. Incredible! What on earth is she eating?'

Abigail noticed William's gaze and shyly scolded, "What are you looking at!"

"Nothing, just curious," William said, scratching his head awkwardly.

"Curious?" Abigail said, tilting her head with the demeanor of a young girl.

William smiled and pointed to Abigail's chest, asking, "Curious about that spider tattoo on your chest. If I remember correctly, I've seen that tattoo before."

Abigail looked down and immediately covered it, feeling embarrassed. "This..."

"It's okay. If it's difficult for you, you don't have to say," William said with a smile, his eyes turning sharp.

Meanwhile, Margaret had arrived at the bank, hurriedly holding the cards as she approached the counter. "Please check the balance on these cards," she requested.

Soon, after entering the passwords, Margaret anxiously waited, asking, "Did you find it? How much is there?"

The bank employee completed the operation, and upon seeing the computer screen, she widened her eyes in disbelief. She looked at Margaret and said, "This card..."
