Chapter 126 Two Suspects
Just at that moment, the sound of high-heeled shoes tapping against the floor echoed from the classroom doorway.
Immediately after, a faint scent of perfume wafted in from the doorway.
Upon hearing the sound, everyone instinctively turned their gaze toward the classroom door.
Suddenly, a charming and alluring figure entered through the classroom doorway. Her face adorned with light makeup, her sleek long hair casually draped over her shoulders, she possessed a tall and enticing figure.
A black professional suit perfectly accentuated her nearly flawless, impressive figure.
"It's Teacher Carter!"
"Why is Teacher Carter here?"
The students began to chatter upon seeing Janet.
Janet walked over to Louis, gave him a faint smile, and softly said, "Mr. Turner, I'm really sorry to trouble you with such a small matter!"
"No problem. I'm the school's dean, and this is part of my responsibilities!"
Louis turned to look at the seductive woman in front of him, his gaze lecherous, fixated on Janet's ample chest.
Janet naturally noticed Louis's heated gaze but didn't say anything.
Everyone at the University of Lumina knew that Louis was not a good person.
During work, Louis had frequently dropped hints about taking Janet to a hotel, but Janet had consistently declined his advances.
"Elbert, you just said James is the thief. Do you have any evidence?"
Janet turned to look at Elbert, her tone icy.
Although the students in the class were all suspicious of James, Janet still didn't believe James would do such a thing.
"Teacher, I wouldn't falsely accuse James. I have evidence for what I said!"
Elbert replied confidently, then looked at everyone and said, "The class fee collection today was only known to our class, so I'm sure the thief is one of us!"
The students nodded in agreement, thinking Elbert's words made sense.
Elbert saw the students agree with him, and his expression became even more smug.
He continued to analyze, saying, "The class president said she left the money in her backpack, and it was still there before gym class, but it was gone when we returned. So, the money must have been stolen during gym class!"
James looked at Elbert expressionlessly, silently analyzing that with Elbert's intelligence, he couldn't have figured all this out on his own. Someone must have instructed him.
So, who was behind Elbert?
The answer was obvious!
"Based on the two clues I mentioned, I think the most likely person to have stolen the money is James! Because James is the only one who came back to the classroom during gym class!"
Elbert methodically repeated what Michael had told him.
The classmates nodded in agreement, thinking Elbert's reasoning was sound.
Janet also turned to look at James, a hint of doubt flashing in her beautiful eyes. Could James really be the thief? Had she trusted him too much?
"Teacher Carter, Mr. Turner, I think if we search James, we'll definitely find the class fee!" At this moment, Elbert continued to shout.
"Yes, search James. He was the only one who came back during gym class!"
The students in the classroom began to shout, "He must have stolen the class fee! The thief is James!"
"James, do you have anything to say?"
Janet hesitated, then turned to James and asked.
James slowly stood up and calmly said, "Elbert's analysis does hold some weight, but I believe he overlooked one crucial detail. I did return to the classroom during gym class, but Elbert was actually the last one to leave. All the students witnessed it. Elbert was tardy for gym class today. Perhaps he stole the money and is attempting to pin the blame on me?"
Paul and Tyler quickly shouted, "Yeah, according to Elbert's logic, he's also very suspicious!"
"James is right. Elbert was indeed late for gym class today!"
Elbert couldn't help but sneer upon hearing James's words.
He wasn't nervous at all; instead, he calmly said to Louis, "Mr. Turner, since everyone suspects both James and me, why don't you make a judgment? Just search the two of us and see who has the money, and the truth will come out."
"Yes, search them!"
"Search them!"
The students began to shout after hearing Elbert's words.
James frowned, looking puzzled.
He couldn't understand why Elbert insisted on a search and was so confident that he was the thief.
"James, do you agree to a search?"
Janet hesitated, then looked at James and asked.
After Janet spoke, all the students turned to look at James.
Michael also had a smug smile on his face.
If James refused the search, it would prove he was the thief. But if James agreed, their trap would succeed.
Everything seemed to be going according to Michael's plan.
James calmly looked at Elbert, sensing a hint of conspiracy.
Elbert's meticulous analysis and composed demeanor suggested that everything had been premeditated.
Elbert's insistence on a search suggested the money was likely on James's desk.
It was all a setup!
Elbert had been the last to leave the classroom, stolen Donna's class fee, and placed it on James's desk.
Upon discovering the missing money, Donna would confront James and Elbert would insist on conducting a search.
"So, James, do you dare to let everyone search you?"
Elbert asked James with a playful expression.
"I have nothing to fear, but your actions are incredibly foolish!"
James coldly replied to Elbert.
