Chapter 273 You Even Tricked My Cousin
Though Lily was quite shocked seeing James's inexpensive attire, she kept her cool.
With a smile, she reached out her hand to James and said, "Hey James, I'm Laura's cousin. Call me Lily!"
Lily was awesome. Just a few words and she made things way more comfortable between her and James.
James was a bit taken aback.
He didn't expect Lily to be so nice and not look down on him.
He quickly shook her hand and smiled back, "Hey, Lily!"
"James, let go of Lily's hand, you jerk! Trying to take advantage of us again?" Nancy yelled when she saw them shaking hands.
James was caught off guard and quickly let go of Lily's hand.
Laura turned to Nancy and snapped, "Nancy, James is your brother-in-law now. Even if you had issues with him before, you can't keep holding onto them!"
"I don't want a brother-in-law like him!" Nancy pouted defiantly.
"You..." Laura was exasperated.
She knew Nancy was just young and blunt.
Nancy was different from Thalassa.
Thalassa humiliated James just to be mean, but Nancy was always looking out for Laura.
Laura's view of James had totally changed. She knew he wasn't what everyone thought he was.
But she also knew explaining that to Nancy and the others wouldn't be easy, so she kept quiet.
Ignoring Nancy, Laura turned to Lily. "Lily, let's grab some food first. After dinner, I'll take you back to the hotel, okay?"
"Sure, I'm here to hang out with you anyway. I'll go with whatever you plan!" Lily replied with a smile.
"Alright then, let's eat!" Laura nodded and headed towards the Mercedes.
"Awesome, food time! I'm starving!" Nancy shouted happily and followed Laura into the car. Since James didn't know the roads in Willowbrook well, he took the passenger seat while Laura drove.
Once the car started, Nancy, sitting in the back, looked at James and suddenly remembered the Fairy Lake Resort incident. She asked softly, "James, Fairy Lake Resort was closed that day. How did you get in? Are you working there now?"
"Working?" James was taken aback by Nancy's question.
"Yeah, Fairy Lake Resort was closed that day, and all the guests were kicked out. How did you get in? You must be working there, right?" Nancy pressed.
She couldn't believe someone like James could be a VIP at Fairy Lake Resort.
Since Laura already knew about James's connection with Atticus, he decided to come clean. "I'm not working there. I was invited to a banquet."
"You were invited to a banquet?" Nancy exclaimed, eyes wide with disbelief. "James, why are you lying? Do you even know what Fairy Lake Resort is? How could you be qualified to attend a banquet there? Even my dad doesn't have that kind of access."
"Your dad's qualifications are none of my business," James replied coolly.
"You..." Nancy was momentarily speechless, then burst out, "You're disgusting. It's bad enough that you're poor, but you also lie. Laura is so unlucky to be with you. I'm definitely going to ask Grandpa to cancel your engagement!"
Laura's face turned pale, and she quickly cut Nancy off, "Nancy, shut up!"
"Laura, what are you doing? James is lying. I heard that Fairy Lake Resort was hosting a very important banquet that day. Only big shots from Lumina City could attend. How could James be qualified to go? He must be working there as a waiter. That's why he got in!" Nancy shouted.
"Nancy, James is not lying. He is indeed qualified to attend the banquet at Fairy Lake Resort," Laura said seriously.
"How could he be qualified?" Nancy was stunned and confused.
"Because James is friends with the owner of Fairy Lake Resort, Atticus. So it's normal for him to attend the banquet," Laura replied calmly.
Fairy Lake Resort was well-known in Lumina City, and Laura knew about the relationship between Atticus and James.
Lily turned to look at James again, intrigued. It was unusual for someone as young as James to know the owner of Fairy Lake Resort, Atticus. She began to suspect there was more to James than met the eye.
"James, how dare you deceive Laura? Tell me, how did you trick her into believing you knew the general manager of Fairy Lake Resort? You're just a poor loser. How could you know someone like that?" Nancy suddenly pointed at James and shouted.
