Chapter 67: Who Are You to Me?
At this moment, Linda spotted James standing in the living room and called out urgently, "James, please come outside and help!" Upon hearing Linda's plea, James couldn't help but offer a faint smile.
"James, we are considered friends, right? I'm begging you, please come and assist Rex!" Linda implored with a sense of urgency.
With only Linda and Rex in the room, James was the only one who could intervene, and all of Linda's hopes were pinned on him.
"I can't help you. There are too many of them, and I can't take them on!" James expressed his helplessness.
James' words utterly crushed Linda's hopes. Since Rex had stolen James' account, James saw him in a negative light and saw an opportunity to teach him a lesson with the help of Mr. Weaver and his men. Moreover, James came here to help Linda, and since Linda was unharmed at the time, there was no immediate need for his assistance.
Having already called Terry earlier, James suspected that Terry's men were likely already downstairs. If there was any danger to Linda later, James would simply have Terry's men come up.
However, the current target of the assault was Rex, so James saw no immediate need to intervene.
Looking at James with disdain, Linda felt perplexed. She couldn't believe that James, who she had never expected to be this way, would choose to stand by.
"James, you are truly despicable. Rex is in such a state, and you still won't help. I never thought you could be like this!" Linda declared in disappointment.
Unimpressed by Linda's outburst, James remained silent.
"James, don't think I don't know what you're thinking. Is it because you like me and are jealous to see me with Rex? But let me tell you, even if all the men in the world were gone, Linda would never be interested in you. You're nothing but a loser!" Linda continued when she saw that James remained silent.
Indeed, Linda's words felt like a sharp blade, piercing deeply into James' heart.
Though simmering with anger, James chose to remain silent, refraining from taking action.
"Alright, let's stop this!" Alvin suddenly shouted.
Upon hearing Alvin's command, his men ceased their assault.
"Rex, are you okay?" Linda hurried over to Rex, tears streaming down her face, her heart aching for him.
Seeing Linda's deep concern for Rex, James felt thoroughly defeated.
"Linda, don't worry about me; I'm fine," Rex said weakly, wiping the blood from his face.
"You can't be fine after what you just went through. I'm taking you to the hospital right now," Linda stated, helping Rex up and leading him toward the exit of the room.
"Just a moment!" Alvin's stern voice cut through the air.
"Before you leave, I have a few words to say," Alvin addressed Linda impassively.
Drawing a deep breath, Linda asked through clenched teeth, "What do you want from us?"
"We are Mr. Martinez's men from Lumina City. We are here today because Mr. Martinez wants us to deliver a message to you. You have three days to sign a contract with Mr. Martinez. If you fail to do so, things won't be so gentle when we return. Do you understand?" Mr. Weaver's cold voice rang outat Linda.
Terrified, Linda nodded, her voice trembling as she confirmed her understanding.
"Do you hear me?" Mr. Weaver pressed on as Linda continued to remain silent.
"I understand!" Linda answered, with her mind solely on taking Rex to the hospital and not interested in further conversation with Mr. Weaver.
"Good." Alvin smirked coldly before turning to address Rex, "Kid, stay out of trouble with the wrong people, or I'll end you."
Fuming, Rex glared at Alvin, feeling utterly defeated. He had only stolen James' account to deceive female streamers on the platform, not to cause this kind of trouble.
"I'm talking to you. Are you deaf?" Alvin barked when Rex remained silent.
"I got it!" Trembling with fear, Rex quickly nodded.
Observing Rex's disheveled state, Mr. Weaver sneered, smiled disdainfully, and then led his men out of the room.
Moments later, Alvin and his team disappeared from Linda's room.
"Rex, I'll take you to the hospital right now. I'm sorry for what happened today; it's all my fault." Linda's voice was laced with guilt as she addressed Rex.
"I'm okay, Linda, please don't worry," Rex muttered softly after a moment of hesitation. Since he hadn't succeeded in taking Linda to bed yet, he couldn't afford to go to the hospital at that moment.
"No, after what you've been through, you must go to the hospital." Linda insisted, helping Rex up and attempting to lead him to the exit of the room.
However, at that moment, James suddenly stepped in, blocking Linda’s path, and said expressionlessly, "Let him go to the hospital by himself. There's no need for you to accompany him."
Upon hearing James' words, Linda looked up at him in anger and cried out, "James, whether I go to the hospital or not has nothing to do with you!"
