Chapter 146 Come Home With Me Tonight
"Mr. Diaz, isn't this a bit too sudden?"
Laura responded, somewhat speechless.
"I know we've only known each other for less than a week, but I fell for you the moment I saw you. I can't sleep at night; every time I close my eyes, I see your face. Please, give me a chance, will you? Let me be your strong support, to protect you and care for you."
Donovan's words, seemingly borrowed from some romantic script, gave everyone goosebumps.
Hearing Donovan, James also looked speechless.
He thought Donovan's words sounded like a tampon commercial, all about protection and care, just missing the leak-proof part.
"Mr. Diaz, I'm sorry, but I can't accept your proposal!"
Laura shook her head gently as she looked at Donovan.
"Why? I'm sincere about you. Why can't you accept me?" Donovan shouted, visibly agitated.
"Because I feel we don't know each other well enough!" Laura said softly.
"I know you very well. I know what you like, your hobbies. I know all of that!" Donovan shouted at Laura.
"If you know me so well, then you should know I already have a fiancé, and we're getting our marriage license tomorrow!"
Laura, feeling helpless, used James as an excuse.
James frowned upon hearing Laura's words but felt a bit pleased inside.
Because no matter what, Laura didn't accept Donovan's pursuit and even told him she had a fiancé.
"You already have a fiancé?" Donovan was stunned, his face showing extreme shock.
"Yes, I have a fiancé, so I can't be with you!"
Laura nodded gently.
Donovan looked at Laura, paused, and then said, "Even if you have a fiancé, it's okay. You can break off the engagement and be with me!"
"Mr. Diaz, my fiancé and I have a great relationship. I won't break up with him. Thank you for liking me, but I have no feelings for you."
Laura replied mercilessly, then checked the time on her phone and said softly, "Mr. Diaz, it's getting late. I should go now!"
With that, Laura grabbed her bag and swiftly exited the private room.
"Laura, I advise you not to be so absolute. You'll regret this, I'm telling you!"
Seeing Laura leave, Donovan stood up and shouted after her.
Laura glanced back at Donovan without saying a word and walked out of the room.
As Laura reached the door, she noticed James standing nearby. She gave him a cold look but said nothing and left the room.
"How does Laura have a fiancé? Didn't you say she was always single?"
Donovan, seeing Laura leave, angrily shouted at the man beside him.
"I don't know either. All of Laura's friends said she was single. No one knew she suddenly had a fiancé!" the man replied helplessly.
"Find out, investigate thoroughly. I want to know who Laura's fiancé is by tomorrow morning. I want him to break up with Laura!" Donovan shouted, eyes wide with anger.
James couldn't help but smirk upon hearing Donovan's words and then left the room.
They probably didn't know that the fiancé Laura mentioned was standing right in front of them.
Seeing Laura reject Donovan and knowing they were getting their marriage license tomorrow, James felt much better and continued serving drinks in the various rooms.
In the blink of an eye, three hours passed.
At 1 AM, the bar's patrons began to leave, and the staff started cleaning up, preparing to close.
James, being a part-timer, didn't need to stay for the cleanup.
James changed out of his work uniform and turned to Jessica, saying, "Jessica, if there's nothing else, I'll head out now."
"Don't rush off. How about grabbing a late-night snack with me?" Jessica flirtatiously said to James.
"Maybe next time. I have something to do later," James replied helplessly and walked towards the bar's exit.
But just as James was about to leave, a seductive voice called out from behind him.
"James, wait a minute!"
James turned to see Cynthia calling him, looking puzzled, "Cynthia, what's up?"
"Come home with me tonight," Cynthia said softly to James.
The staff cleaning the bar widened their eyes in shock upon hearing Cynthia's words.
Cynthia wanted to take James home?
"What do you mean by that, Cynthia?"
James asked, confused by Cynthia's words.
He didn't understand why Cynthia wanted to take him home in the middle of the night. Did she have ulterior motives?
"Don't overthink it. I bought a humidifier today, and it's too heavy for me to carry upstairs. So, come home with me, help me carry it up, and then you can take a cab home. I'll cover the fare!" Cynthia said softly to James.
Hearing Cynthia's explanation, everyone relaxed, realizing she just needed help carrying something.
But James was still puzzled. Normally, large appliances like humidifiers were delivered and installed. Cynthia asking him to carry it seemed odd.
"Don't just stand there, come on!"
With that, Cynthia swayed her hips and walked out of the bar.
Despite his doubts, James didn't refuse Cynthia.
After all, Cynthia was his boss and a beautiful woman. Even if she took advantage of him, James wouldn't mind.
Five minutes later, James followed Cynthia to the outdoor parking lot.
Cynthia pressed a button on her car key, and the lights of a red BMW Mini flashed.
"Get in!" Cynthia called to James and then got into the car.
James hesitated for a moment before sitting in the passenger seat.
Once seated, James glanced around the car's interior, noticing the many cute decorations, very feminine.
"Who would've thought Cynthia, a strong woman, has such a girly side!"
James couldn't help but think.
The car was filled with a pleasant fragrance, the same as Cynthia's scent.
Noting James in the passenger seat, Cynthia's brows furrowed slightly, but she remained silent as she started the car.
Cynthia was a clean freak. She usually couldn't stand being alone with a man, let alone having one in her passenger seat.
Even women, only close friends like Janet, could sit there. So, James was the first man to sit in Cynthia's passenger seat!
