Chapter 258 Joe Fell Down
After finishing their meal, everyone stumbled out of the restaurant.
Perhaps it was because Isolde, Joe, and Thalia had been drinking that they were now stumbling as they walked, needing assistance from others to stay upright.
Laura was holding up Isolde, Thalassa had Thalia, and since Joe was heading to get the car with Leander, James had to support Joe.
"Watch your step," James said, reaching out to steady Joe.
"Get lost! I don't need your help!" Joe snapped, shoving James away and staggering forward.
James just watched Joe's back, feeling pretty helpless.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash from inside the restaurant.
James looked up quickly and saw Joe, who hadn't gotten far, lying on the ground.
Joe had crashed into a vase in the hallway, smashing it to pieces and drawing the attention of all the restaurant staff.
The front desk staff were shocked.
"Dad, are you okay?" Laura shouted, rushing to Joe's side to help him up.
James stood behind them, looking even more helpless.
If Joe had just let James help, this might not have happened. However, Joe insisted on pushing James away and walking on his own.
Joe's fall sobered up Isolde, Thalia, and the others, who all gathered around to check on him.
Seeing that Joe was okay, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, a bunch of security guards surrounded them.
A middle-aged man stormed up to them, looking furious. "Who broke this vase?"
The front desk staff, who had seen everything, quickly pointed at Joe. "Herbert, it was this man!"
"Sir, did you break this vase?" Herbert asked Joe, clearly annoyed.
"Yeah, I fell and broke it. How much is it? I'll pay for it," Joe said, a bit more sober now. Being somewhat known in Willowbrook, he wasn't about to dodge responsibility.
"Alright, since you said so, we won't call the cops. Let's settle this privately," Herbert replied, calming down a bit.
Isolde, not realizing how serious this was, snapped at Herbert, "Just tell us how much it costs. We'll pay right now!"
She figured the vase was just like any other, maybe a bit pricey, but nothing the Hall Family couldn't handle.
"Ma'am, this vase isn't the restaurant's. It's our general manager Atticus Hayes' personal property. I'll need to call him to find out its value," Herbert said calmly.
Thalia, hearing the vase belonged to Atticus, got even more arrogant. "Then call him already!"
Earlier, Atticus had been super respectful to Leander in the private room.
Thalia thought that, with Leander here, Atticus wouldn't make a big deal out of a vase. It would just show how great Leander was.
"By the way, tell Mr. Hayes that the person who broke the vase is Leander's uncle!" Thalia shouted as Herbert was about to make the call.
Herbert nodded and stepped aside to call Atticus.
Thalia turned to Joe. "Don't worry, Leander's tight with Mr. Hayes. The vase probably isn't worth much. We'll be out of here soon."
"Sorry, it's my fault. I'll pay whatever it costs," Joe said calmly.
"By the way, how could you fall on such a flat road?" Isolde grumbled, a bit resentful.
Joe, hearing this, got mad and glared at James. "If someone hadn't tried to help me, I wouldn't have fallen!"
James stood there awkwardly, feeling like his good intentions had totally backfired. He didn't know what to say.
Soon, Herbert finished his call and came back.
"What did Mr. Hayes say?" Thalia asked, curious.
"Mr. Hayes will come to handle this personally. Please wait a moment," Herbert replied, expressionless.
"Is it really necessary for Mr. Hayes to come over for a vase? Can't he just tell us over the phone?" Thalia shouted, impatient.
"That's Mr. Hayes' decision. He'll be here soon," Herbert said calmly.
Leander hesitated for a moment and then said, "Why don't you take Joe and the others away first? I'll stay to wait for Mr. Hayes."
He wasn't really trying to help Joe; he just wanted a chance to talk to Atticus alone and figure out why Atticus had been so respectful to him today.
As for the vase, Leander didn't care much. He figured it wasn't worth much and could pay for it himself.
Hearing Leander's suggestion, everyone turned to look at him, their admiration for him growing.
