Chapter 364 The Arrival of the Legal Team
"All of it?" James's face turned grim upon hearing Craig's words.
Although James knew that after revealing his identity to Laura, Matthew would definitely use this against him as soon as possible.
But James thought that even if Matthew had already started taking action, the lawyers managing Willard's estate hadn't come over yet, and no one had notified him that he had lost the right to inherit the estate. How could his accounts be frozen?
James took a deep breath and then asked in a deep voice, "Craig, what exactly is going on?"
"Mr. Smith, I'm not entirely sure what happened, but this morning Mr. Wilson personally called and asked me to freeze your accounts!" Craig replied in a low voice.
"Charles did it?"
James took another deep breath and then said in a low voice, "Alright, I know what's going on. Let's leave it at that for now."
With that, James hung up the phone.
"Mr. Smith, what exactly is going on?" Pamela asked James anxiously.
After all, the sales office had already offended all the customers. If James had any problems and decided not to buy, Pamela could be in big trouble.
"I don't know what's going on either, but don't worry, let me make a call first."
James took out his phone and walked out of the sales office.
"James, what are you pretending for? Weren't you going to buy all the houses here? Why aren't you buying now?" Evelyn mocked as she saw James leaving.
"Shut your mouth, or I'll throw you out!" James turned and glared at Evelyn, his tone icy.
"You dare?" Evelyn shouted and then stepped forward, continuing, "Others might not know who you are, but I do. You're just a poor delivery guy pretending to be a rich kid. Aren't you just trying to sleep with the pretty female manager?"
"Get lost!"
At this point, James had no patience to argue with Evelyn. He pushed her aside and walked away.
In no time, James walked out of the sales office under everyone's gaze and dialed Charles's number.
After two rings, Charles answered the phone and asked softly, "Mr. Smith, what can I do for you?"
"Charles, did you have my accounts frozen? Didn't you say I was still the heir?" James asked in a low voice.
"Mr. Smith, it wasn't me who froze your accounts; it was Willard's legal team!"
Charles explained helplessly and continued, "The legal team is currently on a flight to Lumina City. They should arrive in a few hours. But before that, they need to audit all your expenses since inheriting the estate. If it's determined that you are no longer eligible to inherit, you will have to repay all those expenses. That's why they instructed the finance department to freeze your accounts to facilitate the audit."
James was stunned upon hearing Charles's words.
"So you're saying I can't spend a single penny right now?" James asked through gritted teeth.
"Mr. Smith, if you need money urgently, I can transfer some from my personal account, but it can't be a large amount, or the finance department will notice," Charles said slowly.
"Is a billion dollars too much?" James asked softly.
Charles was speechless upon hearing this.
"Forget it, I might as well give up on that money!"
James shouted irritably and then continued, "By the way, you said the legal team is already on their way?"
"Yes, they should arrive at my office in about two hours. Matthew and his team are also on their way. They plan to arbitrate whether you can inherit the estate," Charles said.
James took a deep breath. He hadn't expected the legal team to arrive so quickly.
"Mr. Smith, there's one more thing I need to remind you. If you lose the right to inherit, you will have to repay all the money you've spent."
"What if I can't repay it?" James asked, stunned.
"Then you can use the assets you've purchased as collateral. Every penny you've spent is recorded by the bank. To put it bluntly, if you lose the right to inherit, everything you own will have to be returned."
Charles continued to explain.
James felt speechless after hearing Charles's words. He had no idea there were such rules.
Given this, even if James bought all the houses now, it would be meaningless, as they would eventually be taken back.
"Do I need to come over?" James hesitated and asked in a low voice.
"That would be better. You can explain to the lawyers why you revealed your identity. Maybe they'll consider your situation and give you another chance," Charles said in a low voice.
"What do you think my chances are of still inheriting the estate?"
James asked, feeling a glimmer of hope.
"Less than one percent," Charles answered seriously.
"Then it's basically over!" James's hope was instantly shattered, and he said in a low voice, "Alright, I'll come over now. Even if there's only a one percent chance, I have to try!"
"Okay!" Charles replied softly and then hung up the phone.
After hanging up, James looked back at the people in the sales office. He had planned to flaunt his wealth today, but it had turned into such a mess.
James took a deep breath and then walked back into the sales office.
He felt he had to explain things to Pamela; otherwise, it would seem too inconsiderate.
Seeing James return, Evelyn immediately mocked, "James, you're back? Where's your billion dollars? Show it to everyone!"
James looked at Evelyn expressionlessly and then walked over to Pamela, explaining, "Pamela, I'm sorry, my accounts have some issues. I might not be able to buy the houses."
