Chapter 302 Prepared a Gift for You
Originally, the argument between Rufus and Reid had nothing to do with James, so James didn't want to get involved at first.
However, Rufus repeatedly insulted Laura, which made James very unhappy, so he interrupted Rufus.
Rufus was stunned for a moment when he heard James' words, then turned his head to look at James and asked coldly, "What did you just say to me?"
"I said, what kind of connections are these people you called over?" James repeated calmly.
"If the people my grandfather called over don't count as connections, then tell me, what does?" Rufus looked at James with a sneer and asked disdainfully.
James looked at Rufus with amusement and then said calmly, "At the very least, they should be bosses of the level of Charles and Atticus, right?"
Laura's expression brightened upon hearing James' words because she knew James was confident he could call Charles and Atticus over.
"Charles and Atticus?"
Rufus' face showed a hint of surprise upon hearing these names, then he said disdainfully, "From what you're saying, can you actually get these two to come over?"
"I..." James was about to speak when suddenly the hostess at the restaurant entrance shouted loudly, "Wilford Langley from Golden Tiger Group in Lumina City has arrived!"
Golden Tiger Group wasn't well-known in Lumina City and wasn't a big company.
However, upon hearing this name, the Hall Family members all turned to the entrance, and James didn't say what he was about to.
"Why is someone from Golden Tiger Group here?" Lily muttered in confusion.
Rufus' eyes also showed a hint of confusion.
"Is there something wrong with Golden Tiger Group?" Seeing the strange expressions on Laura and Lily's faces, James couldn't help but ask softly.
"There's nothing wrong with Golden Tiger Group, but its boss, Wilford, is a competitor of my grandfather. They have always been at odds, and our Hall Family and the Edwards family have always been like water and fire, with no interactions at all. The only reason he could be here today is to cause trouble!" Laura explained softly.
"I didn't expect that even at your grandfather's birthday banquet, someone would dare to cause trouble. It seems your branch really isn't doing well!" Rufus mocked.
But Laura had no mood to deal with Rufus, staring seriously at the restaurant entrance.
"I'll go see what Wilford is here for!" Conrad's expression turned even uglier upon hearing Wilford's arrival, and he walked towards the restaurant entrance.
The other Hall Family members also began to look tense, and Joe squinted at the entrance, lost in thought.
"Wilford has always been at odds with Conrad. He must be up to no good coming here now!" Kirk snorted coldly.
"If Wilford dares to cause trouble today, I won't let him off!" Floyd said lightly.
Although Floyd, Kirk, and Conrad were secretly competing with each other, they were very united when facing outsiders.
"Wilford, what are you doing here?" Conrad walked up to a greasy-faced middle-aged man and asked coldly.
Conrad had already been humiliated enough today, and if Wilford caused trouble now, it would be the ultimate disgrace for Conrad.
"Conrad, today is your big birthday celebration. How could I miss it?" But to everyone's surprise, Wilford changed his usual tone and replied very respectfully.
Conrad was puzzled by Wilford's words and couldn't help but wonder what Wilford was up to. If Wilford was really here to celebrate his birthday, Conrad wouldn't believe it even if he were beaten to death!
"Are you really here to celebrate my birthday?"
Conrad couldn't help but sneer and continued, "Wilford, I know we have some personal grudges. Usually, I can play along with your antics, but today is my birthday banquet, and I don't want to waste words with you. If you can behave, I'll let you stay and have a meal. If you want to cause trouble, I suggest you leave immediately!"
"Conrad, what are you saying? Our misunderstandings have long been resolved, and it was my fault for offending you before. Today, I'm really here to celebrate your birthday!" Wilford said with a smile.
Conrad's eyes showed a hint of suspicion.
The other guests also looked puzzled because they all knew that Wilford and Conrad were famous enemies who couldn't stand each other. How could Wilford possibly come to celebrate Conrad's birthday?
"Of course, I even prepared a gift for you!" Wilford said as he waved to his driver.
The driver understood immediately and took out a beautifully wrapped gift box from the car.
Seeing the gift box, Conrad's expression became even more puzzled because he could sense from Wilford's tone that Wilford seemed genuinely here to celebrate his birthday.
Floyd and Kirk also looked puzzled.
Under everyone's gaze, Conrad took the gift box from Wilford with some hesitation and instinctively wanted to open it to see what was inside.
"Dad, don't open it!" But at that moment, Zachariah suddenly rushed to Conrad's side and shouted.
"Why not?" Conrad asked, puzzled.
"Dad, everyone in Willowbrook knows your relationship with Wilford. How could he be kind enough to come and celebrate your birthday? I think there's definitely something wrong with this gift box!" Zachariah explained softly to Conrad.
Conrad suddenly realized and glared at Wilford, shouting, "Wilford, you planned to use the contents of this box to humiliate me. Your intentions are truly malicious!"
