Chapter 74: Old Acquaintance

A few minutes later, James arrived at the northwestern gate of the university.

Since this gate was less frequented by students, Terry had intentionally parked the car here to avoid being seen with James.

Although Terry appeared rough, he was quite meticulous.

James had been intentionally hiding his identity, and Terry had long been aware of it.

At the northwest gate, James quickly found Terry's Bentley. He opened the car door and got in.

"James!"

Upon seeing James, Terry respectfully greeted.

"How did the investigation of the person I asked you to look into go?"

James asked expressionlessly.

"James, let's start with Lumina City's StreamVerse broadcaster, Mr. Martinez. This guy is quite interesting, and James, you actually know him!"

While speaking, Terry handed over the documents to James.

"I know this person?" James hesitated for a moment before he reached out and took the documents.

Upon seeing the photograph on the documents, James paused for a moment before letting out a wry smile, "I do, in fact, know this guy..."

As James looked through the information concerning Lumina City’s Mr. Martinez, a playful grin crept onto his face. He was marvelled at the curious connection he seemed to share with this Mr. Martinez.

For this Mr. Martinez was none other than Kevin, with whom James had previously crossed paths in disagreement!

Nevertheless, this turn of events could work in his favor, as he could have Terry warn Kevin not to trouble Linda anymore.

"James, would you like me to take you to meet Kevin now?" Terry asked softly.

"No need to waste time on someone like him. You handle this matter for me. Tell him not to harass a female streamer named Linda anymore, or he’ll face serious consequences!"

James instructed calmly.

"Understood!"

Terry quickly agreed.

"And don’t reveal my identity. Do you understand what I mean?"

After hesitating for a moment, James added.

"Don't worry, James, I know how to handle it!"

Terry quickly reassured him.

James nodded lightly and then continued, "By the way, how did the investigation of Rex go?"

"It’s almost finished, but..."

Terry hesitated for a moment, then handed over a thick file to James and said softly, "However, there are over a thousand people named Rex in Lumina City, so it's a bit tricky to pinpoint the right one!"

James felt a pang of despair at Terry’s words.

With over a thousand potential suspects, by the time James found the real Rex, Linda would probably have already been deceived. Even if James exposed Rex's true identity then, it would been too late.

"However, based on the information you provided, I narrowed it down to about fifty people named Rex around twenty years old. Maybe the person you're looking for is among them!"

Terry continued.

"Fifty is manageable."

James breathed a sigh of relief. Terry was quite good at building suspense.

James quickly took the documents from Terry and began to carefully review them.

Meanwhile, after James left the classroom, the other students also began to leave one after another.

Since the protagonist of the incident, James, had already left, there was no point to stick around. There was nothing more to see.

After all the students had left, Jennifer, Michael, Elbert, and others gathered around Ashley.

"Ashley, what's going on between you and James? Did James threaten you? Or does James have something on you?"

Jennifer questioned Ashley, unable to understand why Ashley had acted in such way today, letting James leave like that.

"James didn't threaten me. I really owe him fifty thousand dollars!"

Ashley replied helplessly, resting her head on the desk.

"You really owe James money?" Jennifer asked in shock, unable to comprehend why Ashley would owe James money.

"Ashley, why do you owe James money?"

Michael asked, frowning.

"Michael, you know exactly why!" Sandra, who had been silent all this time, finally burst out and shouted at Michael.

"Sandra, what do you mean? Ashley borrowed money from James; it has nothing to do with me," Michael replied, somewhat embarrassed.

"When Jennifer offended Kevin before, we were also implicated and taken by Kevin. We needed fifty thousand dollars to get out, but after you used the money to save Jennifer, you left us behind. Ashley knew about James winning the lottery a few days ago, so she called him to borrow the money. That's how it all happened, got it? " Sandra exclaimed, her voice trembling from all the emotion.

Michael and Jennifer looked embarrassed after hearing Sandra's explanation, unsure of how to face Ashley.

Elbert, on the other hand, was outraged, "Ashley, when you needed money, why didn't you call me?"

"What's the use of calling you? It would take fifty thousand to get me out. Do you have that kind of money?" Ashley retorted coldly.

Elbert was momentarily speechless. While Elbert's family was well-off, fifty thousand dollars was still a significant amount to him, which he didn't have readily available.

"I can't come up with that much, but there's no way a poor delivery guy like James does either." Elbert shouted indignantly.

"I already told you, James won the lottery. That’s how he had the money to treat everyone to a meal at Azure Pavilion and to rescue both of us," Sandra sighed helplessly.

"If James did indeed win that much money, he wouldn't have been so generous to treat everyone or use it to rescue you two." Jennifer sneered.

Everyone looked puzzled at Jennifer's words.

"I was with James for two years, and I know him very well. If he did win the lottery, he wouldn't be so generous!" Jennifer continued.

"What do you mean by that, Jennifer?" Michael asked.

"My point is that this money definitely isn't James's!" Jennifer stated firmly.

"The money isn't James's?"

Once again, confusion clouded their faces.

"You guys are so clueless. Recently, there have been thefts around campus. Many Students had their money stolen. The police even came to our school last time to investigate, but they never caught the thief," Jennifer recounted slowly.

"Jennifer, are you saying James is the thief?" Ashley gasped.

"I'm not saying James is the thief, but something is definitely off about him recently. He even boasted about Ashley sleeping with him. If we don't do something to put him in his place soon, I fear he may become even more brazen in the future!" Jennifer's tone turned icy.

Michael and the others exchanged glances, seemingly in agreement with Jennifer.

"But how should we handle James now?" Elbert asked, puzzled.

"Elbert, if I remember correctly, we have a gym class tomorrow. Right?" Jennifer said, squinting.

"Yes, so?" Elbert nodded.

"Here's what we’ll do..." Jennifer began to whisper, hatching a plan to deal with James.
