Chapter 301 Utterly Humiliated
Inside the restaurant.
Upon hearing Rufus's words, Reid's eyes flashed with anger. He pointed at Rufus and shouted, "Rufus, what nonsense are you spouting here?"
"Nonsense?" Rufus looked at Reid with a cold sneer and then said expressionlessly, "Do I need to spout nonsense with you here? I was merely stating a fact. Look at the guests who came to celebrate today; aren't they all here for my grandfather?"
"Rufus, that's a bit too much. So what if your family has more connections?" Although Laura didn't have a good impression of Reid, she disliked Rufus even more now.
She couldn't understand where Rufus got his sense of superiority from, making him so arrogant. He shouldn't say it out even if he knew these guests were here for Kirk and Floyd; he was being disrespectful to Laura's family.
So naturally, Laura sided with Reid.
Rufus, hearing Laura's words, glanced at her disdainfully and said expressionlessly, "Laura, if I remember correctly, you also started a company, right? If you hadn't entered the workforce, I might not say anything, but now you still say connections are useless? Don't you find that laughable?"
"Laughable? What's laughable about it?" Nancy pouted and asked.
"In today's society, money is just fleeting; it doesn't significantly impact your life. What truly matters are your connections. Hasn't Conrad ever told you that?" Rufus sneered.
"Rufus, watch your words. My grandfather is also your elder. Do you think it's appropriate to call him by his first name?" Laura shouted angrily at Rufus.
Rufus just sneered and closed his eyes to rest, not arguing further with Laura and the others.
James sat indifferently on the side, remaining silent from beginning to end.
He admitted that what Rufus said made sense. In today's society, connections were indeed crucial, so much so that they could determine a person's future.
And the connections Rufus had were not something Laura and the others could compare to, which is why he spoke so aggressively.
But compared to James's connections, Rufus's were insignificant!
If James wanted to ruin Rufus's future, it would only take a word.
But seeing Rufus not continuing the argument, he didn't say much either.
On the other side, Conrad, Floyd, Kirk, and others sat at the main table, waiting for the guests to arrive.
However, it was evident that Conrad's expression was somewhat unpleasant.
After all, most of these guests were here for his two brothers. They only said a few words of birthday wishes to Conrad before starting to chat with Kirk and Floyd, almost directly handing their gifts to the two of them.
Conrad's face was unpleasant, and naturally, Joe and the others felt embarrassed too.
Especially in such an important occasion, none of Conrad's many children could help, making them feel very embarrassed.
"Chairman Mr. Cooley of Summit Strategic Holdings has arrived!"
At this moment, the hostess at the restaurant entrance suddenly shouted loudly.
Upon hearing this, everyone turned to the entrance, only to see a few people in black suits and ties walking into the restaurant, chatting and laughing.
Seeing the middle-aged man leading the group, Conrad's face immediately showed a hint of excitement.
He was Domingo Cooley from Lumina City and he had some acquaintance with Conrad, so seeing Domingo, Conrad thought he was here for him and greeted him with a joyful face.
"I didn't expect you to come personally, Domingo. It's really kind of you to come all this way!" Conrad clasped his hands together and said to Domingo with a smile.
"Conrad, what are you saying? Today is your 80th birthday; how could I not come?"
Domingo replied lightly and then, without continuing to chat with Conrad, walked over to Floyd and said softly, "Floyd, sorry, I just received the news about your brother's birthday, so I'm a bit late!"
"Not too late, just in time!" Floyd replied lightly.
"Good, as long as I'm not late. How have you been lately? Are you used to the high-end supplements I sent over a few days ago?" Domingo started chatting with Floyd with a flattering expression.
Conrad stood there with an extremely unpleasant expression, his eyes seemingly about to shoot fire.
Because he never expected that even Domingo wasn't here for him but for Floyd. This birthday banquet made Conrad feel a loss of dignity.
Seeing this, Rufus couldn't help but sneer, his expression full of disdain.
Laura, Nancy, Reid, and the others looked pale but didn't know what to say. After all, their family was really embarrassed today.
And they couldn't find any reason to refute Rufus. Even if they wanted to retort, they had no confidence.
Next, more and more guests came for Floyd and Kirk, and even some big names from Lumina City came because of Rufus.
This birthday banquet made Conrad's family utterly humiliated.
After all, it was Conrad's birthday banquet, but all the guests came for Kirk and Floyd. What was this?
Reid, Laura, and the others sitting with Rufus felt even more ashamed because Rufus's eyes always carried a hint of disdain, as if he was constantly mocking them.
Originally, Conrad thought the banquet could start at noon, but there were too many guests, and even by 2 PM, guests were still arriving.
The Hall Family had prepared fifty tables, which were clearly not enough, so Conrad had the restaurant add ten more tables.
Floyd and Kirk were extremely busy, while Conrad's side seemed a bit deserted. Joe even started to regret not inviting his business partners.
If Joe had invited those people, they wouldn't be so embarrassed now.
But it was too late for regrets.
"Laura, didn't you just tell me that connections are useless? Now you should know their importance, right?" Seeing that most of the guests had arrived, Rufus suddenly asked Laura.
Clearly, he wanted to take this opportunity to teach Reid and Laura a lesson.
"I..." Laura opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by James, who said, "You call these people your grandfather invited connections?"
Rufus was stunned upon hearing James's words, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes.
