Chapter 252 Let James Go Out to Eat
Originally, this private room was set up for eight people, but with Laura and James showing up, they were now ten.
Isolde asked the waiter to grab a chair for Laura, but no one bothered to get one for James.
The room was already tight on space, so squeezing in another chair for James was a no-go.
Since The Golden Elm Bistro had a minimum spending requirement for its private rooms, Leander had picked a smaller room to keep the costs down.
After Laura sat down, she glanced back at James, saw he had no seat, and frowned. "Why didn't you get a chair for James?"
"Laura, the room's not that big. We tried to add a seat for James, but the waiter said we could only fit one more; any more and it wouldn't work," Thalassa said calmly from her seat.
"Yeah, the waiter said this room can only hold nine people max!" Elowen added.
Hearing Thalassa and Elowen, Laura's face changed. She could tell they were messing with James on purpose.
"Laura, how about this? Let James eat outside. He can order whatever he wants, and we'll cover it!" Thalia suddenly suggested.
Laura was stunned, her face full of anger.
Was James just here for a free meal?
Everyone was eating in the private room, but they wanted James to eat outside. That was just insulting.
Even Laura's parents looked upset hearing Thalia's suggestion.
No matter how much they disliked James, he was still their future son-in-law. Thalia was also insulting them.
But since Leander was hosting, they couldn't say much and just sat there, hoping James wouldn't be too humiliated.
"You really want James to eat outside?" Laura asked, shocked.
"Yeah, if he doesn't want to eat outside, he can stand here and eat. It's up to him," Thalia replied casually, not caring about James at all.
"Leander is already being nice by inviting someone like James. It doesn't matter where he eats, right? Laura, just let James step outside so he doesn't get in the way," Elowen said with a smile.
James stood there, expressionless, with one thought in his mind: when he could finally reveal his true identity to Laura, he'd make them pay.
If they were just humiliating him, he wouldn't be so mad, since people often judged others by their wealth.
But they were humiliating Laura too.
James would never let anyone humiliate Laura, so he vowed to remember this and get his revenge later!
"Laura, she's right. It doesn't matter where I eat. I'll just head outside," James said calmly, not wanting to make things harder for Laura and having zero interest in dining with these folks. Then he turned to leave the room.
"You guys are being totally unreasonable. If you don't want James here, then I'm out too. I'll go eat with him outside!" Laura shouted at everyone and turned to follow James.
James was really touched by Laura's words. No matter how others treated him, at least Laura had his back.
As long as Laura was cool with him, he didn't care how others tried to put him down!
"Laura, what are you doing? If James wants to leave, let him. Leander's covering whatever he eats anyway. There's still a seat here; you should stay," Thalia said, trying to stop Laura from leaving.
"Why should James be the only one eating outside while the whole family eats here? Why not send your son-in-law out? James is my fiancé. Disrespecting him is disrespecting me!" Laura shouted, not holding back anymore.
Thalia's face turned awkward hearing that.
Only then did she realize she might've gone too far. She quickly said, "Laura, what are you talking about? We respect you and James. I was just joking. I wouldn't really make James eat outside."
Laura shot Thalia a cold look without saying a word.
"Leander, get the waiter to move us to a bigger room!" Thalia quickly said to Leander.
"Alright," Leander nodded, looking a bit helpless.
"Laura, call James back. We'll get a bigger room so everyone can sit," Thalia said after Leander agreed.
Laura hesitated for a moment, knowing they were all part of The Hall Family, and it wouldn't help anyone to break family ties. So she turned and walked out of the room.
A few minutes later, James, who was about to leave the restaurant, was brought back by Laura.
After some explaining, James reluctantly followed Laura back to the room.
But when they got back, they found Leander arguing with the waiter.
"I just asked you to change our room. Why can't you do that? We can't fit ten people in here!" Leander shouted. He had booked the private room specifically to please Thalassa and Thalia.
"Sir, I'm sorry, but our private rooms are all pre-booked. We don't have any extra rooms available," the waiter replied, looking helpless.
"I'll pay extra! Just give us a bigger room!" Leander shouted, getting more agitated.
"It's not about the money. The rooms are already booked. We can't change your room. If you find this room too small, you'll have to go to another restaurant," the waiter said firmly.
Hearing this, everyone's faces turned sour.
"What kind of attitude is that? We're customers, and customers are supposed to be treated like gods! Where's your manager? I want to file a complaint!" Thalia exclaimed angrily.
"I..."
The waiter was about to explain when a stern voice interrupted, "What's going on here?"
A middle-aged man walked into the room.
James's face turned speechless upon seeing the man because it was none other than the restaurant's general manager, Atticus!
