Chapter 388 Rockefeller Foundation

James strolled back into Charles's office, finding the place empty except for Charles lounging on the sofa.

"Mr. Smith, you're back!" Charles jumped up with a grin when he saw James.

"Mr. Wilson, I owe you big time. If you hadn't called Laura over, I'd probably be out of the inheritance game by now!"

James was still mulling over what Laura had said, so he seemed a bit distracted.

"Just doing my job!" Charles replied with a smile, then added, "Mr. Smith, I think Miss Hall still has feelings for you. She just needs some time to process everything. It'll be okay."

"Yeah, I hope so." James nodded, then asked, "So, now that the legal team is gone, am I done here?"

"Yep, the arbitration is over. You're still the sole heir of Willard. All your assets are unfrozen. If you need anything, just give me a call," Charles said respectfully.

"Thanks for everything today. Let the employees know they'll get an extra $20,000 bonus at the end of the month," James said, his face blank.

After everything that happened, James didn't care much about money anymore. He had prepared himself to lose it all last night. Now that he had it back, he felt no excitement or joy. As Laura had pointed out, James might not even know what he truly wanted.

"Got it." Charles nodded quickly.

James then looked at Charles, puzzled, and asked, "By the way, you never answered my question. Why did you help me?"

James had always been curious about this. In that situation, Charles had no reason to help him. No one knew who would end up with the estate. Given Charles's personality, staying neutral would have been the safest bet.

But Charles had gone out of his way to help James, even risking offending someone like Matthew.

Considering the circumstances, Matthew had a much higher chance of becoming the heir than James, so James couldn't understand Charles's intentions.

Charles looked at James and said softly, "Mr. Smith, I helped you today not because of any hidden agenda, but because I believe you're the best person to inherit this estate."

"I'm the best person to inherit this estate?" James was taken aback. "What do you mean by that?"

"I was planning to tell you this after you graduated from college, but with everything that happened with Matthew, I have to tell you now," Charles paused, then looked at James seriously. "Mr. Smith, what you're inheriting isn't just an estate, but also a mission."

"A mission?" James looked at Charles, even more confused.

"Yes, a mission to carry out Willard's last wishes. I think you've got more guts than Matthew to pull it off, which is why I backed you today." Charles nodded at James.

James frowned and asked, "Wait, what exactly is this mission? The contract only mentioned that I have to marry Laura, right?"

"Mr. Smith, don't stress. This isn't something you have to do. It's your choice, and it won't affect your inheritance. I'm just letting you know," Charles said softly.

James hesitated, then asked, "Just tell me, what is it?"

"Mr. Smith, have you ever heard of the Rockefeller Foundation?" Charles asked.

"Rockefeller Foundation?" James thought for a moment, then shook his head. "No, I haven't."

"The Rockefeller Foundation, also known as Rockefeller, is a huge investment group Willard started overseas. It's got massive influence both internationally and domestically, and it controls a lot of big-name luxury brands," Charles explained.

"You mean it's the actual controlling shareholder of many international luxury brands?" James looked even more puzzled. He had no idea what Charles was getting at.

"Mr. Smith, I know this might sound confusing, so let me give you some examples," Charles said with a smile. "You know Infinite Future Communications Inc, right?"

"Of course, it belongs to that famous Rodolfo McCoy!" James quickly nodded. Infinite Future Communications Inc was a top internet company, with products everywhere in Serendara and a big presence in the gaming industry.

Even though James wasn't online much, he knew about Infinite Future Communications Inc.

"Rockefeller holds 51% its shares," Charles told him.

James was stunned. "Shouldn't Rodolfo hold the most shares of it? How did Rockefeller end up with them?"

Charles smiled. "To most people, it looks like Rodolfo holds the most shares. But actually, Rockefeller is the biggest shareholder. They just don't get involved in day-to-day operations, so not many people know about them."

James was shocked, his mouth hanging open.

He never imagined Rockefeller could be so powerful, controlling 51% of Infinite Future Communications Inc's shares!

If James had no clue about Rockefeller before, he definitely got it now!
