Chapter 322 The Sudden Confession
Conrad's face immediately showed an awkward smile after hearing Laura's words.
Because he also felt that his current behavior was a bit too obvious.
Laura, in a moment of emotional outburst, directly voiced her thoughts. "I don't need you to interfere in matters between James and me. I know you're all eager for me to marry James because of his status and background, but James is my fiancé, not The Hall Family's fiancé. Whether he has a background or not has nothing to do with you, and I don't want to see you targeting James!"
In fact, Laura said this to protect James as well.
Conrad looked at Laura, his expression extremely awkward, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Joe hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward and gently advised Laura, "Laura, that's a bit too much. Your grandpa didn't mean anything by it. Everyone is just looking out for you!"
"If you don't mean it, that's the best. I'm just telling you what I think. I like James for who he is, and it has nothing to do with anything else. I don't want anyone else interfering in matters between James and me!" Laura shouted with her big, watery eyes.
Everyone looked at Laura with a mix of helplessness and awkwardness in their eyes.
"James, let's go!"
Seeing that everyone was silent, Laura directly pulled James towards the room.
"Laura, you're so cool!" Nancy looked at Laura's departing figure with admiration.
The others, however, had darkened expressions, their thoughts unknown.
Laura brought James to the room The Hall Family had prepared for him. The room's luxurious decor was incomparable to any hotel outside.
If it weren't for James's performance at the restaurant today, he wouldn't have been allowed to stay in such a room, not even the smallest room in The Hall Family's villa.
After entering the room, Laura sat angrily on a chair and said, "My grandpa and the others are too much. Even if they want to please you, they don't have to be so obvious about it, right?"
"You could just tell them the truth. I think if you explain things clearly, they wouldn't act like this," James replied calmly.
Laura said helplessly, "Of course, I want to tell them the truth, but if I do, they'll continue to humiliate you. So, I'd rather not tell them anything. At least this way, they think you're a rich kid and won't bully you."
Laura said helplessly.
"I see." James couldn't help but nod after hearing Laura's words.
"James, sometimes you're too kind, and that's why people bully you!"
"Do you think if I explain your situation to them, they'll change their attitude? They won't. They think you're a rich kid now, so they're trying to please you. If they knew you were poor, they'd despise you. So there's no need to explain anything to them. Let them guess. You won't see them often anyway," Laura said seriously to James.
"You're right!" James, feeling a bit guilty, didn't argue with Laura.
"In a few days, we'll go back to Lumina City. I don't want to stay here any longer," Laura sighed and said softly.
James hesitated for a moment and asked Laura expectantly, "So, when you said you liked me, was that true or not?"
"I said I liked you?" Laura was stunned by James's words and asked in confusion, "When did I say I liked you?"
"You just said it yourself. You said you liked me and would be with me regardless of my background. Everyone heard it. Are you pretending not to remember?" James replied with a smile.
"I... I just said that casually. Don't take it seriously!" Laura stammered, her face turning red.
"So you didn't mean it at all?" James said with a half-smile.
"Yes, you saw the situation. I just didn't want them to keep bothering you. I didn't mean anything else. Don't overthink it." Laura explained to James in a flustered tone.
"So you really don't have any feelings for me?" James hesitated for a moment and asked Laura seriously.
Laura was stunned again, her face showing a hint of conflict, as she didn't know how to answer James's question.
"Why are you asking?" Laura asked James softly.
"Nothing, I just want to know how you feel about me now," James replied nervously.
"How I feel?" Laura paused and then continued, "I don't really have any strong feelings for you right now, but I don't dislike you as much as I used to."
James was overjoyed to hear Laura's words.
Because he knew that if Laura didn't dislike him, it meant he still had a chance. So he decided to seize the opportunity and confess to Laura!
For James, the most important thing now was to marry Laura and make her genuinely want to be with him.
Once Laura agreed, James wouldn't have to hide his identity from her, and he could inherit the ten trillion dollar fortune smoothly.
So James looked at Laura seriously and said, "Laura, we've known each other for a while now. At first, I didn't have many thoughts about you. I thought a girl like you wouldn't like me. But as we spent more time together, I realized you're different from other women. You don't judge me based on whether I have money. So I think I might really like you now. I don't know if you're willing to give me a chance to be my real girlfriend."
Laura was stunned by James's sudden confession, staring at him blankly, not knowing how to respond.
