Chapter 266 The Vase Was Swapped
Atticus got what James was hinting at. But Laura, Joe, and the rest? Totally lost.
Isolde was freaking out, thinking James was about to screw things up. So, while Herbert went to grab the vase pieces, she stormed over to James, yelling, "James, what the hell are you doing? How could Mr. Hayes buy a fake vase?" James just turned to her, cool as a cucumber, and said, "Relax, I'll handle it."
Isolde scoffed, then snapped, "James, who do you think you are? How are you gonna fix this? This vase is worth $20 million. Can you cover that?"
Before James could reply, Laura jumped in, "Mom, what are you doing? James is just trying to help. Isn't that a bit much?"
"Laura, move aside. Let me deal with him!" Isolde shoved Laura away.
Thalia stepped up to Isolde, speaking softly, "Isolde, what are you doing? James is just trying to help."
"Help?" Isolde sneered, rolling her eyes. "What can he do? Why is our Hall Family stuck with such a useless son-in-law? If it weren't for him, Joe wouldn't have broken that vase!"
Atticus glared at Isolde, fuming. He wanted to defend James, but seeing James so calm, he decided to stay quiet.
If James revealed who he really was, the Hall Family wouldn't even be in the same league, and even the richest guy's daughter in Serendara wouldn't be good enough for him.
Atticus wondered if James could pick his daughter up, that would be great.
He was amazed at how James stayed so calm despite Isolde's insults. That kind of composure was scary; even Charles probably couldn't pull that off.
Isolde, tired of yelling, snapped at James, "James, if they prove the vase is real, how will you handle it?"
James just gave her a calm look, not saying a word.
"Mr. Hayes, I've got the vase pieces!" Herbert rushed out, handing a fancy gift box to Atticus.
Even though the vase was broken, the staff had carefully protected the fragments.
Everyone watched Atticus.
Laura was worried that if the vase was real, things would get even messier.
Atticus opened the gift box, took out a piece, and examined it closely.
The whole restaurant went dead silent, everyone watching Atticus.
Only James stayed chill because he knew that even if the vase was real, Atticus would say it was fake.
After a moment, Atticus put the piece down.
"Mr. Hayes, is this vase real?" Herbert asked nervously.
"Herbert, the vase in the restaurant was swapped, and you didn't even know?" Atticus shouted angrily.
"The vase was swapped?" Herbert was stunned.
Laura, Joe, and the others were also in shock, staring at Atticus like they were dreaming.
James watched Atticus's angry act and smiled, impressed by his performance.
If he hadn't known beforehand, James might've been fooled too.
Then Atticus shouted, "This vase is fake!"
"No way!!" Herbert was so shocked he almost fainted.
As the manager, he'd be fully responsible if such an expensive vase was swapped.
Joe and the others felt like they were on an emotional rollercoaster.
One minute, they were worried about the $20 million, and now they were told the vase was fake, confirmed by Atticus. No more money worries.
Laura stared at James, shocked.
She wasn't curious about why the vase was swapped; she just wanted to know how James figured it out. He hadn't even touched the vase.
"Sir, I'm really sorry. It's my fault. The vase in our restaurant is indeed fake. Today's incident was all a misunderstanding!" Atticus quickly walked up to James, smiling and apologizing.
Everyone was stunned by his words.
They couldn't understand why Atticus, after finding out the vase was fake, wasn't mad but instead apologized to James who looked kinda shabby.
What was going on?
