Chapter 395 Charles's Plan

Charles couldn't hold back any longer and spoke up to James after a long silence. "Mr. Smith..."

"Don't even try to convince me. I'm not into Savannah. The only woman I care about right now is Laura!"

James cut Charles off and went on, "Besides, even if Savannah had my kid, she wouldn't just fall in line. If I did that, she'd probably hate me even more. She might even stab me in the back, and I wouldn't see it coming!"

"Mr. Smith, big wins need some flexibility!" Charles, frustrated by James' refusal, shouted back, "I get it, even if Savannah had your kid, she might not side with us, but what's the harm in trying? How do you know if you don't give it a shot?"

"And how do you know it won't backfire?" James asked Charles.

"The worst that could happen is you have a one-night stand, Mr. Smith. Even if Savannah doesn't join us later, I don't see how it could hurt us!" Charles replied softly.

"But what if Laura finds out about me and Savannah? What then? I don't want more drama with Laura!" James shouted, his eyes blazing.

Seeing James so worked up, Charles sighed and said quietly, "Mr. Smith, I don't think you get your situation!"

"My situation?" James asked, confused.

"First off, your biggest threat isn't Rockefeller. They haven't made a move against you yet. Once they see you as a threat, they will. Right now, your biggest enemy is the Edwards family. They're watching you, trying to snatch Willard's inheritance from you. You know how they operate. With these two enemies, forget about taking back Rockefeller; even inheriting the estate is a long shot. If you keep being soft, you might not even be able to protect Miss Hall in the end, got it?" Charles said seriously.

James was stunned, staring at Charles.

"But if you can get Savannah on our side, we'll know right away if the Edwards family makes a move. This way, we can nip problems in the bud and create a safety net for ourselves. Then we can focus all our energy on dealing with the Rockefellers!"

Charles took a moment, then went on, "I get you're worried about Miss Hall, but I'm not asking you to fall for Savannah or marry her. I just want her to have your kid, so we have some leverage. If she still won't side with us after that, we can use the kid to pressure her. Once the Edwards family finds out Savannah had your child, they won't trust her anymore, and she'll have no choice but to join us!"

James was floored by Charles's words. He realized this plan for Savannah to have his child wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing but something Charles had been plotting for a while.

It was all part of Charles's grand scheme.

Even though James didn't want anything to do with Savannah, he couldn't deny that Charles's plan made sense. He was torn.

"Alright." James took a deep breath and said, "I can't give you an answer right now. I'll think it over when I get back."

"Okay!" Seeing James's attitude soften, Charles quickly nodded.

James shot Charles a look, then got up and walked out of the office.

Charles watched as James stepped into the elevator. As the doors slowly closed, Charles sighed.

"Mr. Smith, I know this is tough for you to swallow, but if you want to reclaim Rockefeller, this is just the start. What's coming will be way harder than this!"

With that, Charles turned and headed back to his office.

By the time James left Innovation Hub Tower, it was already nine at night.

The city was alive with towering buildings and bustling streets.

James wandered aimlessly. The day's events were too much for him to process.

He had thought inheriting Willard's estate would be a joyous occasion. After all, inheriting ten trillion dollars would make anyone happy.

But James wasn't happy at all. Today, he realized there were so many hidden issues behind this fortune.

How to deal with the Edwards family, how to reclaim Rockefeller, what his parents' deaths had to do with Rockefeller, and how to explain everything to Laura—These questions swirled in James's mind, and he was clueless.

And the biggest question was whether he should have a child with Savannah.

James pondered how to handle Savannah while wandering the streets.

Without realizing it, James walked for over an hour.

He found himself back at the apartment complex he used to rent. Maybe, deep down, that small room felt like his real home, while the villas he bought felt foreign, like they weren't really his.

Standing outside, James smiled bitterly and sighed, "Maybe I'm still that same loser."
