Chapter 250 Money Rules Society

Ten minutes later.

James and the crew rolled up to the restaurant Leander had booked earlier.

Right then, four middle-aged folks were hanging out at the entrance. Two of them were Laura's parents, and the other two were Thalassa's.

They were all standing there, looking pretty eager to see everyone.

Laura spotted them and got a bit nervous. She turned to James and said, "Hey, my parents are here. Let's get out of the car!"

"Alright," James nodded, feeling a bit jittery himself since it was his first time meeting Laura's folks.

But before they could even step out, Thalassa had already dragged Leander over to the group.

"Mom, Dad!" Thalassa beamed, looking all cute and sweet as she greeted them.

Laura's mom, Isolde Merrick, glanced at Leander and smiled, "Thalassa, is this your boyfriend?"

"Yep, Aunt Isolde, this is Leander!" Thalassa nodded quickly.

"Nice, he looks like a good match for you!" Laura's dad, Joe, chimed in with a smile.

Thalassa's mom, Thalia Wren, seemed pretty pleased too, checking out Leander.

Leander looked sharp, both in build and style, which was a big deal for Thalassa's family. Her mom came from The Hall Family, but her dad was just a regular office worker.

So Thalia was thrilled Thalassa had found such a great guy.

Leander greeted both sets of parents politely, and the vibe was pretty chill.

"Your Thalassa did great finding such a good boyfriend. Really impressive!" Isolde said to Thalia with a smile.

"Oh, come on, our Thalassa's not as well-off as your Laura! I'm sure your son-in-law is even better!" Thalia replied, though she didn't really mean it.

Joe and Isolde sighed almost in sync when they heard that.

Joe had set up Laura's marriage to save his company from going under. He thought he had found a good match for her, but then he found out her future husband was just a broke student delivering food, with no family background at all!

After learning about James, Joe gave up on his hopes for a great son-in-law. When Laura's company hit a rough patch, Joe wanted to cancel the engagement and set her up with Donovan instead.

That way, it would help the family, and Laura wouldn't have to struggle with James.

But for some reason, Laura refused, and Donovan wasn't interested in her either.

This whole thing always puzzled Joe.

So when they heard Thalia's words, they felt a bit guilty.

"If our son-in-law was even one-tenth as good as your Leander, I'd be happy!" Isolde sighed.

"Isolde, you're too modest! I heard your son-in-law is quite impressive and even knows the CEO of Golden Peak Investment Company!" Thalia quickly replied, then turned to Thalassa and asked, "Thalassa, didn't you say Laura's fiancé would be here today? Where are they now?"

"Mom!" Just as Thalia finished speaking, Laura's voice suddenly rang out.

Everyone turned to look upon hearing Laura's voice.

They saw James and Laura walking over slowly.

When Thalia saw Laura, she quickly walked over and said affectionately, "Laura, you're finally here. I haven't seen you in years!"

"Hello!" Laura didn't have a good impression of Thalia's family, but she still greeted them out of politeness.

"You are getting more and more beautiful!" Thalia smiled faintly, then looked at Laura and continued to ask, "Laura, I heard your fiancé is here today too. Where is he?"

Laura was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, then looked at James awkwardly and said, "Aunt Thalia, this is my fiancé, James!"

Thalia turned to look at James, and her expression immediately became one of disbelief.

Actually, Thalia had noticed James earlier, but seeing his shabby appearance, she had assumed he was Laura's driver.

She never expected that Laura's fiancé was this guy.

Joe and Isolde both looked embarrassed.

In their eyes, James was still okay. Although his clothes were ordinary, he looked decent and not as sleazy as some others.

As for his family background, they had already mentally prepared themselves.

But with Leander present, the difference became immediately apparent.

"Laura, your fiancé looks quite spirited!" Thalia said to Laura, then immediately lost interest in talking and turned away without saying a word to James.

Originally, she had wanted to compare Laura's fiancé with her daughter's, but now it seemed unnecessary.

After Thalia left, Laura brought James to her parents and briefly introduced him.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Hall!" James quickly greeted Joe and Isolde.

Joe snorted coldly.

Isolde didn't say a word, directly turning to Thalia and saying, "Where's our private room? Let's go in and eat!"

At this moment, Joe and Isolde both felt they had wronged their daughter by marrying her to someone like James, feeling it was too much of a grievance for Laura.

"The private room is upstairs. Leander specially reserved a large room for us. Let's go!" Thalia quickly replied, then enthusiastically pulled Leander into the restaurant.

"Let's go!" Isolde also pulled Laura inside.

Everyone entered the restaurant.

Only James was left standing alone at the entrance, feeling an unprecedented sense of humiliation.

James could clearly feel Joe and Isolde's attitude towards him, but he thought it was normal.

After all, anyone who didn't know James's background would think he wasn't good enough for Laura.

James had anticipated it might happen, but when it actually did, he found it hard to accept.

"Well. Guess money really matters a lot. Poor guys don't even deserve a wife!"

James sighed helplessly, then walked into the restaurant.
