Chapter 381 I'm Not Talking About You
"Hey Charles, do you think we can get the phone records from the telecom company if the user gives the okay?" James suddenly asked, catching Charles off guard.
Charles was surprised by the question, then jumped up and shouted, "Mr. Smith, are you saying we should ask the telecom company for the call recordings?"
"I remember Laura is a VIP customer. They should have recordings of all her calls. We can ask them to pull up last Friday's call," James replied calmly.
Matthew was stunned by James' suggestion, staring at him with a mix of emotions. He hadn't expected James to come up with something neither he nor Charles had thought of.
"Mr. Soto, please give us some more time. I'll call the telecom company right now!" Charles said excitedly.
"Go ahead." Eldon nodded.
With Eldon's approval, Charles quickly left the room and called the CEO of Lumina City Telecom.
James, Laura, and the others were on edge after Charles left. If he could get the recording, their problem would be solved. If not, all their efforts would be wasted.
Matthew stood there, looking defeated. He had thought presenting the video would disqualify James as an heir, but things were getting complicated.
Charles got straight to the point with the telecom CEO, explaining why he was calling.
The CEO, knowing Charles' status in Lumina City, didn't refuse but couldn't promise they'd find the recording, given the sheer volume of daily calls.
"Mr. Wilson, I'll have the tech team look for it. If we find it, I'll let you know right away," the CEO said politely.
"Thanks, Mr. Hopper. Drinks on me sometime!" Charles replied with a smile.
"Haha, sounds good," the CEO responded before hanging up.
Charles sighed in relief and returned to the conference room.
Laura quickly stood up and asked, "Mr. Wilson, did you get the call record?"
"The telecom company is looking for it now. We just have to wait a bit," Charles replied calmly.
"What are we waiting for? This should've been simple, and now it's a mess!" Matthew shouted in frustration.
"Mr. Edwards, if you don't want to wait, you can leave. We don't need you here," Charles said, glancing at Matthew.
"Leave? Nice try. If I leave now, you'll just say whatever you want!" Matthew retorted with a sneer.
Charles' phone rang, startling him. He quickly answered.
"Mr. Wilson, we've found the call recording you requested. Should I send it over or just email it to you?" the other party asked respectfully.
"Email it to me!" Charles urged.
"Alright, sending it now," the other party replied before hanging up.
As Charles put down his phone, the room fell silent, everyone staring at him. The most agitated was Matthew.
Matthew couldn't believe Charles had found the call recording between Laura and Lily.
"This can't be real. He can't have found it," Matthew muttered through gritted teeth, glaring at Charles.
Charles' phone chimed with an audio file from Mr. Hopper. Instead of playing it immediately, Charles handed the phone to Eldon.
"Mr. Soto, this is the call recording between Miss Hall and Lily from that night. You can listen to it now," Charles said softly.
Eldon hesitated, then said, "Alright."
As Eldon was about to play the recording, Laura suddenly shouted, "Wait!"
"Miss Hall, is there something else?" Eldon asked, looking at Laura.
"I have one request before you play the recording," Laura said expressionlessly.
"What request?" Eldon asked.
"I think certain people should leave. I don't want them to hear my conversation with Lily," Laura said seriously.
Matthew, hearing this, stood up and shouted, "I'm the complainant in this arbitration and Willard's relative, the legal first heir. I have the right and duty to oversee this arbitration. You want me to leave? No way. If I leave, it means you're hiding something. You're all in cahoots, aren't you?"
Laura glanced at Matthew and said disdainfully, "I wasn't talking about you."
Matthew, taken aback, awkwardly asked, "Not me? Then who?"
"Him!" Laura pointed at James without hesitation.
