Chapter 430 The Onlooker Sees Clearly

"Laura's going abroad?" James was totally floored when he heard this from Lily. His face went blank, unable to believe his ears.

Just a minute ago, he was racking his brain on how to get Laura to forgive him. The last thing he expected was for her to be planning to leave the country.

"Lily, why is Laura going abroad? What happened?" James asked, his voice full of worry.

"A lot's been going on lately, and Laura's struggling to deal with it all. She needs to clear her head. Plus, Harmony College sent her an acceptance letter six months ago, but she decided to stay here because of you. Now, she probably can't face you anymore, so she figured it's a good time to go study at Harmony College," Lily explained slowly.

"But what about her cosmetics company if she goes abroad?" James asked, sounding frantic.

"I'm handling all the business for the company now!" Lily replied softly.

"How long is she planning to stay in Marigoldia? When's she coming back?" James kept pressing.

"I don't know, it depends on when Laura feels ready to come back!" Lily said calmly.

James hesitated for a couple of seconds, then gritted his teeth and said quietly, "Lily, where are you guys now? I need to talk to Laura right away!"

"I can't tell you that, and honestly, I don't think you should try to stop her from going abroad," Lily said firmly.

James was taken aback and asked, confused, "Why? Didn't you want me to see her one last time?"

"James, don't you get it yet? Do you even know why Laura's leaving? She's in a really bad place right now. Her biggest issue is whether you approached her for her inheritance or because you genuinely care about her. No matter what you say to her now, she won't believe you. The best thing for her is to go abroad and clear her mind. Maybe she'll come around on her own."

Lily paused, then continued, "And she's just leaving for a while, maybe three years tops, or even just a few months. It's not like you'll never see each other again. If you try to stop her now, she'll doubt your intentions. She'll wonder if you really love her or if you're just desperate to keep her for the inheritance. Do you get what I'm saying?"

"Lily, of course, I want to keep Laura because I care about her," James shouted, desperate.

"But do you think Laura will believe you? And if you really love her, why can't you let her go abroad? Can't you wait for a little while?" Lily replied, her voice low but firm.

James was totally floored by what Lily said.

"James, you and Laura are too wrapped up in this to see things clearly. But from where I'm standing, it's obvious. You guys have a serious rift. Even if you try to explain things to Laura, she won't buy it. The best thing now is for you two to take a break from each other. It'll be good for both of you!" Seeing James still silent, Lily kept going.

James let out a deep breath and said quietly, "Lily, when's Laura leaving? I'll go see her off tomorrow."

"Tomorrow morning at ten. But Laura doesn't know I told you, so keep that to yourself. Also, think hard about what you want to say to her. She's really fragile right now, and if you say the wrong thing, it could make things worse. Got it?" Lily advised gently.

"Lily, I get it. Thanks!" James replied softly.

"No need to thank me. Laura's my sister, and I think you're a good guy. I believe you really care about her, so I hope you two can work things out!" Lily said lightly, then hung up.

James stared at his phone, feeling totally crushed.

Just a moment ago, he was figuring out how to explain things to Laura and make her believe him. Yet now, she was planning to leave the country.

If Laura really went abroad, James might never get the chance to explain himself.

But he also knew Lily was right. If he tried to stop Laura now, it would only make things worse.

James sighed again. This whole situation was a real mess.

He initially got close to Laura for the inheritance, but his feelings for her became real. Now, he had no idea how to explain that to her, and even if he did, she might not believe him.

With these thoughts swirling in his head, James slowly closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

The next day, at eight in the morning.

James hadn't slept a wink. When his alarm went off, he jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom to freshen up.

He went back to his room, picked out a decent outfit from his closet, and hurried out the door.

But as he opened the door, he saw Linda coming out of her room too.

"James, where are you headed?" Linda asked, looking puzzled.

"I've got something to take care of!"

James didn't have time to explain. He gave a quick reply and dashed towards the elevator.

Linda watched him leave, her eyes full of confusion.

She couldn't figure out what had James so worked up.

"Why's James been acting so weird lately?" Linda muttered to herself.
