Chapter 202 Could it be Someone from the Edwards Family?
"Who told you I have a fiancée?" James asked, stepping closer to Jennifer.
"It doesn't matter. I knew it anyway. And I know if you don't marry her, you'll lose all your wealth!"
'Jennifer's such an idiot who doesn't think twice before she speaks,' James thought.
She didn't say how she found out, but James could guess who was behind her.
Not many knew about his relationship with Laura, and even fewer knew the inheritance details.
So, someone was using Jennifer to mess with him and Laura.
'Could it be someone from the Edwards Family?' James thought it was likely the one Charles mentioned, trying to get the previous chairman's inheritance, had put Jennifer up to this.
Jennifer, feeling smug, said, "If you don't give me money, I'll spread our photos around school and show them to your fiancée. If that's not enough, I can fake documents saying I had an abortion for you. Let's see you explain that!"
James hesitated for a moment, then whispered, "You want money, right?"
"Exactly!" Jennifer nodded.
"I'll give you five million dollars, but you have to tell me who told you about my fiancée first," James said slowly.
Jennifer hesitated because she was told to keep it secret.
"If you don't tell me, I'm leaving," James said, turning away.
"James, wait. I'll tell you," she said.
Jennifer, desperate for money, wouldn't keep her promise.
"Alright, go ahead," James said, sitting back down.
Jennifer hesitated, then whispered, "I don't know who told me. I got a call last night. The person told me about you and Laura and asked me to do this. They said if I failed, I should use Laura, and you'd comply."
"Are you sure you don't know who called?" James asked.
"I've told you everything. Do I need to hide anything? It was a man, an out-of-town number. When I called back today, the phone was off," Jennifer explained.
James hesitated, then softly said, "Give me your phone."
Jennifer quickly handed it over.
James checked the call log and saw the number was from Dreamscape City.
"It really is someone from the Edwards Family," James sighed.
Charles had told James that the person vying for the Edwards Family inheritance was from a big family in Dreamscape City.
"James, I've told you everything. Can I get the money now?" Jennifer asked, biting her lip.
James looked at her and said, "Jennifer, do you think getting this money will solve all your problems?"
"Isn't that the case?" she asked softly.
"I can give you the money, but even with it, many things won't be fixed, and you won't get the life you want," James said flatly.
Jennifer, impatient, shouted, "Cut the crap and give me the money!"
James found her expression disgusting and called the bank manager, Craig.
The phone rang twice before Craig answered, "James, what can I do for you?"
"Withdraw five million dollars in cash and deliver it to the Michelin restaurant for a woman named Jennifer," James said calmly.
"Okay, I'll send it over right away," Craig replied.
James hung up and asked Jennifer, "Do you know how much five million dollars in cash is? Do you know how heavy it is?"
"Why do I need to know that?" Jennifer, excited about the money, was already planning how to spend it.
James sneered and got up to leave.
He had recorded the entire conversation with Jennifer and, along with Sandra's confession, had enough evidence to clear his name. He wanted to find Laura and explain everything.
Jennifer didn't stop him; all she cared about was the money.
Just then, two people walked into the restaurant.
"Honey, that's the jerk who slapped me with money. You have to teach him a lesson today!" said the flirtatious woman who had previously clashed with James.
She was followed by half a dozen young men, the leader, named William Simmons, sporting a wild afro hair and a flashy outfit.
William and the woman headed straight for James.
The restaurant's security quickly blocked their path and asked, "What's going on, sir?"
"Move! My wife was bullied, and if anyone stands in my way, they'll regret it!" William shouted.
"Sir, not in the restaurant. If you have any issues, can you settle them outside?" the security guard said, looking troubled.
One of William's lackeys grabbed the guard by the collar and shouted, "Didn't you hear Mr. Simmons? Get lost and mind your own business!"
The guard hesitated, then stepped aside, not daring to speak.
William swaggered up to James, raised an eyebrow, and shouted, "Was it you who bullied my wife?"
