Chapter 54 Janet's Interrogation
"Teacher, I truly had no idea!" James said helplessly.
Upon seeing James' stubborn demeanor, Janet took a deep breath, composed herself, and then spoke, "The lace nightgown I had hung on the balcony has disappeared. Besides you, no one else has entered this room, so my gown must have been taken by you."
James was shocked. He never expected the missing item to be that alluring lace nightgown. Janet mistakenly believed James had stolen it, even though he had only gone to the balcony because of the nightgown.
Although James went to the balcony because of the nightgown, he never intended to stoop so low as to steal it.
"Teacher Carter, although I went to the balcony that day, I did not take your nightgown!" James explained to Janet with a helpless expression.
"My dormitory was only accessed by you, so if not you, then who took it?" Janet gazed at James with resentful eyes.
"Even if I came to your dorm, it does not mean that I took your nightgown," James paused, then continued, "Teacher Carter, when I was at your place before, I noticed a figure on the balcony. Could it be that person who took it?"
As the situation escalated, James had to fabricate an excuse to get through it. However, Janet seemed not to buy his story.
Staring at James, Janet, with a hint of anger, said, "James, didn't you claim you went to the balcony to help me kill a cockroach? And even if someone else entered my dorm, my nightgown was still there when you left. I discovered it missing only later that night."
Debunking James' excuse, Janet didn't buy his reasoning.
"Teacher Carter, considering your nightgown was still there when I left, how can you attribute its disappearance to me?" James quickly defended himself, finding a loophole.
Janet paused, then whispered, "Maybe you came back to take the nightgown again?"
"Teacher Carter, you're misunderstanding me. If I had intended to take your nightgown, I would have acted long ago, not wait until now," James expressed, slightly frustrated.
Observing James, Janet noticed some validity in his words. After all, James had no reason to act now if he had the intention all along.
"Moreover, Teacher Carter, we're acquainted enough. If I indeed took your nightgown, you would suspect me right away. I wouldn't risk such a thing," James justified for himself.
Janet scrutinized James with narrowed eyes, contemplating his words. Meanwhile, James felt anxious, uncertain if Janet would believe him. Anyway, he had not taken the nightgown.
"Are you certain my nightgown wasn't taken by you?" Janet hesitated, questioning James.
"Absolutely not!" James asserted without hesitation.
"Alright, I'll believe you. Don't deceive me, though. If I find out it was you, you'll face consequences!" Janet warned coldly.
"Teacher Carter, you can trust me. What would I do with your nightgown?" James firmly stated.
"You know best." Janet blinked her alluring eyes, blushing a bit before continuing, "James, you must be aware of the discussions the male students have had about me behind my back."
James stood frozen in shock and embarrassment.
He never expected Janet to be so candid with him about these matters.
At the sight of James' reaction, Janet couldn't help but offer a seductive smile and then casually removed her jacket. Underneath, she wore a professional shirt, tightly embracing her figure and looking alluring.
"James, why are you standing there? Come sit and chat with me," Janet said, patting the spot next to her.
James paused, feeling bewildered. He had no idea what Janet had in mind for him.
"James, why are you still standing there? Come over here!" Janet playfully urged him.
"Teacher Carter, I'm fine standing," James replied somewhat helplessly. With uncertainty about Janet's intentions, he dared not move closer.
"Alright then." Janet, seeing James not budging, lifted her sexy leg slightly and shifted her posture seductively, asking, "James, how do the boys in the class discuss me behind my back?"
"They praise your beauty, your good character, and your engaging teaching style," James replied promptly.
"We're close enough, James. Spare me the formalities. Tell me something I wouldn't usually hear," Janet interrupted alluringly.
James hesitated for a moment before whispering, "Teacher Carter, given my lack of close friends in the class, I'm not entirely sure how they discuss you."
"How would you describe me as a woman?" Janet licked her enticing red lips, curiously inquiring.
"You are a talented, beautiful, and kind-hearted woman," James responded quickly.
"Do you find me beautiful?" Janet asked, seemingly pleased.
"Very beautiful and very alluring," James nodded gently.
"Then, be honest with me. Have you secretly fantasized about me?" Janet continued.
