Chapter 393 A Difficult Choice
In the office.
Seeing the disappointed look on James's face, Charles felt a pang of guilt.
He stepped forward and said softly, "Mr. Smith, you have to understand, Rockefeller is the biggest consortium in the world. Their security is top-notch. Regular people can't get their hands on any inside info. If any of Rockefeller's secrets got out, it could trigger a global economic crisis. People would be out on the streets, and the United Nations wouldn't let a consortium like that exist. Controlling so many leading companies is like holding the lifeline of global commerce. The UN would definitely step in."
"I don't care about Rockefeller's business right now. I just want to know what Rockefeller has to do with my parents' death!" James replied through gritted teeth.
"Mr. Smith, if you really want to uncover the truth about your parents' death, there's only one way: take back Rockefeller. Then you can find Lowell and Kennedy and ask them what really happened back then!" Charles said to James.
"Is there no other way?" James took a deep breath and said slowly.
Charles gently shook his head and continued, "We can't reach Lowell and Kennedy right now. Even with my connections, it's impossible. But if we take back Rockefeller, then Rockefeller will be yours, Mr. Smith. Finding Lowell and Kennedy will be a piece of cake."
James looked at Charles, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
At that moment, he finally understood why Charles was so eager to help him today. Charles knew he would definitely choose to go against Rockefeller with him.
Because James's parents' death had a lot to do with Rockefeller!
"Okay, I agree to take back Rockefeller with you, but how do you plan to do that?" James asked Charles in a low voice.
"Mr. Smith, now isn't the time to take back Rockefeller. I still have a lot of prep work to do, and I can only control a small part of Willard's business domestically. There are many resources left by Willard that we can't control!" Charles said softly.
"What do you mean we can't control it?" James asked, frowning.
He was completely confused by Charles because he had never dealt with something so complicated.
"Mr. Smith, even though our company isn't as big as Rockefeller, its industries are spread all over the world. There are many regional managers. I'm just the manager of the Lumina City area and can't control all the industries left by Willard. There are many regional managers like me, so the only person who can truly control this business empire is you, Mr. Smith, because you're the true heir!"
"No wonder you always wanted me to take back Rockefeller."
James smiled helplessly at Charles."That's right. If we want to take back Rockefeller, we gotta control all the company's resources first. Only then do we stand a chance. And you're the only one who can do it!" Charles smiled faintly.
"How am I supposed to control the other regional managers?" James asked softly.
"It's pretty simple. You need to marry Miss Hall and make sure it's genuine. That way, you'll fulfill Willard's will and inherit all the assets smoothly. Once you have everything, I'll gather all the regional managers and announce your identity. Then, you'll be the true chairman of the company!"
Charles paused for a moment and continued, "After I announce your identity, you'll still need to get these people to genuinely recognize you as the chairman. This might be the toughest and most crucial step. Only when they truly accept you will they follow your lead, and you can take over all of Willard's assets smoothly!"
"Why is it so complicated? I've already inherited the assets, so why do I need their recognition?"
James shook his head in frustration. He didn't expect inheriting the assets to be such a hassle.
"When Willard was alive, a lot of people didn't follow him either. It's just how it is. Our company is huge, and no one can make everyone fall in line!" Charles said with a smile.
James looked at Charles, conflicted. He knew that while Charles made it sound simple, actually doing it would be like climbing a mountain.
"Of course, Mr. Smith, you don't have to do all this. You can choose not to go along with my plan. In that case, you won't need the managers' recognition, and you don't even need to become the chairman. The assets Willard left you are enough for you to live comfortably. So, it's entirely up to you what you want to do next!"
"However, if you want to fully control the company Willard left behind, I'll do everything I can to help you. But if you think it's not worth it, that's fine too. You can choose to walk away!" Charles said seriously.
"I..." James wanted to say something but couldn't find the words.
"Mr. Smith, you don't need to decide right now. Go home, think it over, and then give me your answer. Everyone has their own priorities. If you just want to find out about your parents' death, I'll help you with that. I don't want you to agree just because of that. You need to genuinely want this because only then can you do it well!"
Charles interrupted James.
James looked at Charles, still silent.
"But no matter what, the most important thing right now is to win over Miss Hall. Only after you marry her can we move forward with the plan!" Charles said with a smile.
James sighed helplessly. Just thinking about Laura gave him a headache.
He had no idea how to win her over!
