Chapter 308 Are You Sure You Want Me to Leave?
They never expected Conrad to be so heartless.
Originally, they thought Conrad would at most scold James in front of everyone, and that would be it!
But what they didn't expect was that Conrad showed no mercy and planned to kick James out directly.
The entire restaurant fell into a dead silence, everyone staring at Conrad in disbelief.
Even James himself didn't expect Conrad to be so angry. He initially thought that since he couldn't explain his relationship with Lucian clearly, it was better not to explain at all. Once Conrad calmed down, the matter would be over.
But he never imagined that Conrad would want to kick him out directly!
"Conrad, what are you talking about? James just made a small mistake, why are you kicking him out?" Laura shouted at Conrad, her expression agitated.
"A small mistake?" Conrad couldn't help but sneer, then said in a deep voice, "It concerns the honor of our family! And things have come to this point, yet this kid still won't admit what he did. How could I possibly agree to let you marry someone like him?"
Laura was stunned for a moment after hearing Conrad's words, then stepped forward and retorted with her big, watery eyes. "Whether I marry James or not is not for you to decide, is it?"
"You are my granddaughter, of course, I have the right to decide your matters!" Conrad roared domineeringly.
Laura was stunned on the spot because Conrad had never spoken to her in such a tone since she was a child.
And the Hall family members present already disliked James, and knowing Conrad's character well, they naturally wouldn't try to persuade him.
"James, why are you still standing there? Do you want to embarrass the Hall family even more? Get out of here now!" Conrad yelled at James, his eyes wide open.
James took a deep breath and asked Conrad in a low voice, "Are you sure you want me to leave now?"
"Of course, do you think I want to keep you here for dinner?" Conrad replied coldly.
James hesitated for two seconds, knowing that staying would only lead to more ridicule and mockery.
So he decided to leave, as the image he had painstakingly built in front of Laura had already collapsed.
As for Conrad's disapproval of his relationship with Laura, James wasn't too worried. He believed he could explain everything eventually.
Seeing James about to leave, Laura quickly grabbed his hand. "James, don't go..."
"Staying here will only cause more trouble for you. I'll go back to the hotel first," James said in a low voice.
"The hotel is also owned by the Hall family. What right do you have to stay there? I think you should hurry back to Lumina City!" Thalia took the opportunity to humiliate James.
James glanced at Thalia and said, "Even if I leave now, you will invite me back."
"Who do you think you are? Do you think the Hall family can't do without you?" Thalia shouted disdainfully.
James knew that since Wilford and Lucian had found him here, others would also receive the news and come to the banquet.
By then, everyone would know that Lucian was not an actor hired by James.
But if James explained this to the Hall family now, they wouldn't believe him, so he had to leave temporarily.
Under everyone's gaze, James slowly disappeared from the restaurant, his back exceptionally lonely.
Thalassa, Thalia, Dorian, and others smiled happily, thinking James deserved it.
"James!" Laura shouted, breaking free from Isolde's grip, and chased after James.
"Laura, stop right there!" Conrad roared, seeing Laura trying to leave with James.
"Conrad, I think you must have misunderstood James..." Laura turned to Conrad and explained.
Conrad interupted firmly, "I don't care if there's a misunderstanding. If you dare leave with him today, don't come back to the Hall family!"
"Conrad, just because of this trival matter, you don't want me either?" Laura looked at Conrad in disbelief.
"That's right. As long as you are my granddaughter, I will never allow you to marry someone like James!" Conrad replied loudly.
Laura hesitated for two seconds, then chose to chase after James.
"Laura, you..." Conrad started coughing in anger.
He never expected Laura to be so persistent, even after he had said so much.
"Conrad, what are you doing? Let the young people handle their own affairs. Why are you interfering so much?" Kirk patted Conrad's shoulder and advised in a low voice.
"Yeah, Conrad, there are so many outsiders watching. What are you doing? It's the modern age, do you still plan to control the kids' marriages?" Floyd added.
Conrad realized his attitude was problematic after hearing their words.
He quickly calmed down and apologized to the guests, "Everyone, I'm sorry for the scene just now."
Floyd and Kirk quickly stepped in to ease the atmosphere.
On the other side.
After leaving the restaurant, James took out his phone and called Atticus.
"Mr. Smith, what can I do for you?" Atticus answered quickly and respectfully.
"Atticus, tell me, how did Wilford and Lucian know I was in Willowbrook, and how did they know about my relationship with Laura?" James asked angrily.
"Mr. Smith, about that..." Atticus was about to explain when James heard the sound of high heels. He turned around and saw Laura behind him.
"Damn!" James felt a sense of despair because he had spoken loudly.
If Laura had been standing behind him, she would have heard everything he said.
