Chapter 416 The Sleazy Manager Murray
Inside the sales office, a middle-aged guy in a suit with gold-rimmed glasses was standing in front of Pamela, throwing insults her way.
James frowned as he took in the scene.
He had a hunch that Pamela getting chewed out had something to do with him not buying the houses that day.
The other employees in the sales office kept their distance, not wanting to get involved, and no one stepped up to defend Pamela.
"Poor Pamela. She used to be the vice president of our company, but who would've thought she'd get tricked by someone pretending to be a rich kid!"
"Yeah, I heard the boss was furious when he found out and demoted her from VP to a salesgirl."
"From VP to salesgirl? That's a huge drop!"
"If it weren't for this, would the new manager dare to talk to Pamela like that?"
"Right, and Demetrius got fired because of Pamela's situation, sigh."
A few salesgirls huddled together, whispering.
James caught bits of their conversation, and a look of helplessness crossed his face.
He knew they were probably talking about him, the guy pretending to be a rich kid.
Because he didn't buy the houses that day, Pamela got caught in the crossfire and was demoted from VP to a regular salesgirl.
The new manager, Marc Murray, thought Pamela was hot and wanted to sleep with her.
But Pamela, being who she was, didn't even give him the time of day. In her eyes, if she couldn't snag someone like James, a super-rich guy, she'd at least go for a company president.
So, she flat-out rejected Marc in front of everyone, and her harsh words left him feeling humiliated. Since then, he'd been on a mission to make her life miserable.
Today, Pamela was just a few minutes late, and Marc was tearing into her, not letting up.
Even though Pamela tried to stay strong, getting yelled at in front of so many colleagues and customers for so long would break anyone.
Her makeup was smeared from crying, and she looked so pitiful that you just wanted to hug her and tell her it would be okay.
But Marc kept on insulting her, showing no signs of stopping.
"How can Marc be so over the top?"
"Yeah, she was just a few minutes late. Is this really necessary?"
"We should watch out for Marc. I think he's a bit of a creep. Just because Pamela turned him down, does he have to retaliate like this?"
A few salesgirls were whispering from a distance.
James, now standing nearby, could hear every word they were saying.
"Pamela was the vice president of our company. If it weren't for that Mr. Smith, she wouldn't be in this mess."
"Yeah, it's all that broke guy's fault. If he couldn't afford the houses, he should've just said so! Now Pamela's lost her job and is being harassed by this old creep!"
James felt a pang of embarrassment hearing their words.
He knew he was partly to blame for Pamela's downfall.
Taking a deep breath, James walked over to Pamela.
"Pamela, do you know what you did wrong today?"
Marc had calmed down and was now speaking in a low voice.
Pamela took a deep breath and reluctantly replied, "I... I know I was wrong!"
"It's a good start!"
Marc smiled faintly and then said softly, "Pamela, I'm saying this for your own good. You're no longer the company's vice president. If you're late, it's not fair to your colleagues, right?"
"Yes." Pamela nodded helplessly, looking at the unpredictable Marc.
"Well, Pamela, do you have time tonight? How about having dinner with me?" Marc asked with a lecherous grin.
Pamela felt a wave of helplessness because she knew dinner with Marc wouldn't just be about dinner.
"Pamela, you know how I feel about you. If you become my girlfriend, I promise no one will dare to bully you again. What do you think?" Marc continued, seeing Pamela's silence.
"Marc, I've told you many times, I don't like you, and I won't be your girlfriend!" Pamela responded with frustration to Marc's sudden confession.
"Pamela, who are you pretending to be pure for? I know all about your past. You just like money, right? I'll give you money. How much do you want to sleep with me?" Marc shouted angrily.
Pamela's eyes flashed with anger, and she gritted her teeth. "Marc, are you even human? You're married, and you're still trying to mess around with me! And you asked how much money I want to sleep with you? Let me tell you, the amount I want is something you can't afford. Have some self-awareness. You're just a small sales office manager. What makes you think you can sleep with me?"
Marc's expression turned dark after being humiliated by Pamela. He never expected her to speak so bluntly.
"You're just a whore, who are you pretending for?" Marc cursed and then raised his right hand, ready to slap Pamela.
