Chapter 193 Unable to Prove Innocence

James' phone rang again. He saw it was Laura calling and got nervous. Laura never called unless something big was up.

"Oh no, did Laura see that photo?" he muttered, worried. His relationship with Laura was just getting better, and those photos could ruin everything. He was unable to prove his innocence now!

He took a deep breath, grabbed his phone, and ran out of the classroom. Once outside, he answered the call.

"Hey, James!" Laura's sweet voice came through.

"What's up? Why the call?" he asked, trying to stay calm.

"Can't I call for no reason?" Laura joked.

James was surprised. If she'd seen the photos, she wouldn't be this casual.

"No, I'm glad you called!" he quickly replied.

"Remember, we're getting our marriage license today. Where are you? I'll pick you up," Laura said.

James sighed in relief, thinking, 'As long as she hasn't seen the photos, I'm safe.'

"I'm at school," he said softly.

"Got time this afternoon? If not, I can come later," Laura said.

"I've got time now. Come over," James replied.

"Okay, I'll be there in ten minutes!" Laura said.

"Great!" James hung up and went back to the classroom.

"James, how dare you come back? You shouldn't be at the University of Lumina," Sandra shouted.

James ignored her. He needed to get the marriage license with Laura first, then have Terry investigate who was behind this mess.

Despite having made enemies lately, James felt something was off about the whole situation.

He couldn't quite figure out who would have an agenda to distribute compromising photos of him and Jennifer around the classroom, nor did he understand the purpose behind it.

Just then, the sound of high heels echoed outside. Janet walked in, swaying her hips.

Seeing Janet reminded James of the bar incident.

To James, Janet had always been just another teacher—albeit a more attractive one—but nothing extraordinary. However, after the events of last night, his perception of Janet had drastically shifted. He knew she was far more complex than she appeared.

As Janet entered, the classroom fell into a hush. Today, Janet was dressed provocatively in a tight black mini-dress that accentuated her curves perfectly. Her flawless, makeup-free face resembled a ripe apple, smooth and tempting. Her sultry, fox-like eyes sparkled with an allure that was almost hypnotic. The students couldn't tear their gazes away from their enticing tutor.

Janet walked to the podium and called out, "James, come with me!"

James was surprised but followed her out of the classroom. Once they were in a secluded spot, Janet asked softly, "What's up with those photos of you and Jennifer? The whole school is buzzing about it. Do you know that?"

"Those photos are fake, Photoshopped. Jennifer and I broke up a long time ago," James said, frustrated.

"Fake?" Janet was surprised. "Regardless, this looks bad for the school. You better keep your head down. The principal might come after you."

"I get it." James gave a casual nod. At the moment, he wasn't too worried about the principal coming after him. After all, Arnold knew all about James' background. Even if James were truly behind the leak of those photos, Arnold wouldn't dare take any serious action against him.

"Alright, go back to class," Janet said.

"Can I take a leave of absence?" James asked quietly.

"Why?" Janet asked, puzzled.

"I have some personal stuff to handle," James said, not wanting to explain he was getting a marriage license with Laura.

Janet hesitated, then said, "Fine, half a day off. Just be more careful with photos in the future."

She turned and walked back to the classroom. James stood there for a moment, then shouted, "I told you those photos were Photoshopped!"

"I don't believe you." Janet teased, sticking out her tongue.

James was speechless. Just then, his phone vibrated. It was a text from Laura saying she was at the school gate.

Thinking about getting the marriage license, James felt better and hurried to the gate. Soon, he saw Laura standing gracefully in front of a white BMW.

Laura wore a white spaghetti strap dress, her fair neck exposed, looking as elegant as a swan. She had on red high heels, looking both sexy and dignified.

"Laura!" James waved.

Laura smiled and said softly, "I had some free time today, so I thought we could get the license. Did you bring your documents?"

"My documents are at home. Can you come with me to get them?" James said awkwardly.

"Sure!" Laura nodded and turned to get in the car.

Just then, a gust of wind blew a piece of paper to Laura's feet. She instinctively looked down and froze when she saw the content.

James also froze, realizing it was a photo of him and Jennifer.

He wore a wry smile and muttered, "Could it get any worse?"
