Chapter 29 Do You Think I'm Pretty?
Upon seeing Janet approaching, James felt on the verge of being exposed.
There was no hiding place on the balcony, and if Janet came over, she would surely discover James.
James's heart raced violently, seemingly more nervous than when he had peeked at Janet changing clothes.
As Janet's footsteps drew closer, James couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat.
"Teacher Carter!" After a moment of hesitation, James gritted his teeth and stepped out from behind the balcony.
"James!" Upon seeing James, Janet's eyes widened in surprise.
"Teacher Carter, you're back!" James pretended to be composed as he addressed Janet.
"James, what were you doing hiding on the balcony? And when did you come in?"
Recalling her recent clothing change, Janet's cheeks flushed.
"Teacher Carter, you asked me to help you move things! When I came in, I noticed a cockroach on the balcony, and I wanted to kill it for you, but it got away!" James explained, visibly embarrassed.
Upon hearing this, Janet couldn't help but give James a skeptical look before softly saying, "James, I do not believe that explanation."
"Teacher Carter, everything I said is true," James quickly defended himself.
"Whether it's true, you know in your heart. Were you hiding on the balcony and watching me change my clothes?"
Seemingly seeing through James's thoughts, Janet furrowed her brows and asked softly.
"I didn't see anything at all. Did you change your clothes, Teacher Carter?" James immediately shook his head.
Seeing James's reaction, Janet couldn't help but chuckle and then coquettishly said, "James, if you don't tell me the truth today, be prepared for me to punish you!"
"Teacher Carter, I really didn't see anything," James insisted, gritting his teeth.
"Are you absolutely sure you didn't see anything?"
"Yes!"
Realizing that Janet had already discovered him, James continued his falsehoods.
He just couldn't admit to peeking at her while changing clothes!
"Very well."
Janet's eyes briefly revealed a hint of amusement before she softly spoke. "Be more careful in the future. I don't want a repeat of today's incident."
"Alright!" James nodded hastily.
"You may leave." Waving towards James with a hint of resignation, Janet seemed to find no way to deal with James denying everything so steadfastly.
"Alright. Goodbye, Teacher Carter!"
Relieved to be allowed to depart, James quickly made his way out of the room. Just as James was about to leave the room, Janet suddenly called him back.
Hearing this, James instinctively stopped in his tracks, nervously watching Janet and asking, "Teacher Carter, is there anything else?"
In her high heels, Janet sauntered up to James, eyeing him up and down.
As Janet was naturally tall, and with the heels adding extra height, she stood slightly taller than James. At this moment, with James in close proximity to Janet's chest, he could distinctly catch a whiff of her alluring fragrance.
"James, do you find me attractive?" Janet's lips parted enticingly as she posed the question to James.
Caught off guard by Janet's alluring words, James hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
"Do you find me attractive?" Janet gazed at James provocatively, awaiting his answer.
Taking a deep breath, James replied softly, "Teacher Carter, I truly did not peek at you changing clothes."
Upon hearing his response, a mischievous glint passed through Janet's eyes as she pursed her lips and remarked, "I didn't ask you about that. Even if you did, I wouldn't blame you—it wasn't intentional."
"But I really didn't see anything!" James was feeling increasingly tormented by Janet's scrutiny.
"Alright then. My friend just opened a bar, and I heard that you've been working part-time delivering food at school. How about helping out at my friend's bar for a week?"
Putting an end to her teasing, Janet now seemed genuinely concerned for James.
If it had been the old James, he would have readily agreed and felt grateful to Janet. However, things had changed. Inheriting a trillion-year-old estate, James couldn't possibly go back to working as a server in a bar.
"Teacher Carter, I've stopped delivering food now." James hesitated before refusing.
"You've stopped delivering food? Then how about your tuition?" Upon hearing James's response, Janet paused, looking puzzled. Being James's homeroom teacher, Janet was well aware of his family situation.
Previously, James would have readily agreed, but this time, he surprisingly declined Janet's offer.
"I've found an easier job now, where I can earn some money," James explained.
"Alright." Janet nodded at James, then suggested, "But my friend's bar just opened, and they really need help. How about going to lend a hand for a week?"
James was uncertain.
"James, if you don't agree, I'll blame you for peeking at me changing clothes!" Janet said softly yet firmly to James.
"Teacher Carter, I really didn't peek at you changing clothes!" James asserted firmly.
"Whether you peeked or not, you know the truth in your heart!" Janet pouted and replied.
After a moment of hesitation, James reluctantly said, "Okay. I'll help you out as a favor, Teacher Carter."
"Did you peek at me changing clothes?"
James found Janet's sudden change in tone quite strange and blurted out loudly.
James was left speechless.
