Dorian looked anxious. If James really turned down Jessa, it wouldn't just be losing a $5 million-a-year job; it might also offend Jessa and Irvin!

James's refusal could affect not only himself but also the relationships between the Hall, Hays, and Greer families.
Thalassa and Elowen stood there, puzzled. It felt like an unbelievable day. First, James beat Vivienne and Lyle on piano and violin, then he caught Jessa's eye, and now he was turning her down!

"Are you sure you want to refuse me?" Jessa asked James with a half-smile.
"Yes, I'm not interested in ArtScape Center," James nodded at Jessa.
Jessa looked at James and sneered.
"Jessa, don't waste your breath on this guy. He's just trying to get more money. If $5 million a year isn't enough, offer him $10 million!" Irvin, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up.
"Alright, I'll offer you $10 million then!" Jessa nodded lightly and looked at James, saying, "If you come to ArtScape Center as the manager, I'll give you a $10 million annual salary. If you perform well, I'll even consider giving you some shares of ArtScape Center. You can choose your working hours, and I won't interfere with your management of ArtScape Center!"
Everyone gasped at Jessa's words.
