Chapter 62:They're All Telling the Truth

"Why should we feel guilty?" Paul hesitated for a moment, then countered with a furrowed brow.

"Yeah, we have nothing to feel guilty about." Tyler chimed in.

At that moment, only James remained stunned, gazing at Jennifer, Ashley, and the others.

Ever since Jennifer had appeared, James had had a hunch about their intentions.

"You're afraid I'll expose James and embarrass you all," Jennifer scoffed at Paul, her expression dripping with disdain.

She then approached Sarah directly and eyed her with a smile before asking, "You're not a student at the University of Lumina, are you?"

"No," Sarah replied, shaking her head, confused by Jennifer's actions.

"Exactly!" Jennifer sneered, then continued, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Jennifer, James' ex-girlfriend."

Upon hearing this, Sarah instinctively turned her head to look at James.

Although Paul had mentioned that James had recently become single, Sarah was still surprised to find James' ex-girlfriend here.

"Do you need something from me?" Sarah asked Jennifer.

"I have no any particular business with you. I just want to inform you about James. I'm worried that such a nice girl like you might be tainted by a poor wretch like James!" Jennifer said slowly.

"Jennifer, what nonsense are you spouting? We don't welcome you here. Please leave immediately!" Paul's expression became more animated and his anger was evident in his voice.

"Why do you think you can ask us to leave before I finish speaking?" Jennifer coldly smirked before glancing at James and softly stating. "You may not be students at the University of Lumina, so you may not understand James, but I know him very well."

"James is a famous pauper at our University of Lumina and a particularly destitute one at that. Look at his shoes; he's been wearing them for almost three years without a change. James has been scraping by delivering food. The reason I broke up with James was solely because of his extreme poverty. That's why we parted ways!" Jennifer declared confidently.

Upon hearing Jennifer's words, Sarah stood frozen in disbelief. Although she had noticed James' somewhat unkempt appearance, she had never imagined that he made his living as a deliveryman. If James truly relied on delivery food for a living, he wouldn't have the means to invite everyone to the Stellar Lounge for drinks.

Lori, on the other hand, was utterly shocked. She couldn't believe that James was that poor and was silently relieved that she hadn't approached him herself to avoid being deceived.

"If you doubt me, you can ask anyone at the University of Lumina. They should all know James!" Jennifer continued as Sarah remained silent.

"I can confirm that; James is merely a poor delivery guy!" Sandra added in agreement.

Most of the patrons of the Stellar Lounge were students from the University of Lumina. As Jennifer's words resonated, they came forward to support her claims.

As they watched, Paul and Tyler stood perplexed, unsure of how to counter Jennifer. Every word she uttered seemed irrefutable.

James' lack of wealth and his job as a delivery person were undeniable truths.

"If I'm not mistaken, you probably don't know about this. James never told you, did he? He's here pretending to be someone he's not, trying to woo you, isn't he?" Jennifer continued, scrutinizing Sarah.

"He's not pretending to be someone he's not; he just wanted to buy me a drink!" Sarah retorted reluctantly.

"Exactly. James probably had money to buy you a drink, but that money came from a recent lottery win. He could only afford it after he won that money!" Jennifer continued with a mocking smile.

"Yes, after winning the lottery, James treated our classmates to dinner at the Azure Pavilion, trying to pass off as affluent. However, in the eyes of our classmates, James was just a fool. Instead of improving his life, he spent his winnings on meals for everyone, a rather amusing sight!" Sandra added.

Ashley hesitated for a moment before joining in. "Indeed, after winning the lottery, James offered me $50,000 to spend the night with him, which I promptly declined. Can you believe he tried to proposition me!"

While James remained impassive to most of Jennifer and Sandra's claims, Ashley's statement drew his attention. However, James chose not to refute anything, sitting cold and indifferent.

At that moment, Sarah was outraged. Proud by nature, she had never accepted any advances from men. Today, she had briefly entertained an interest in James, but she had never expected him to be this person.

If this matter spread to the School of Arts, Sarah could become the laughing stock of the entire school.

After a moment's hesitation, Sarah turned to James, her eyes wide with a glare, and demanded, "James, are all the things they said true?"

James sat silently, unmoving, and made a chilling declaration, "Yes, everything they said is true."

Sarah was stunned to hear James admit to everything.

Meanwhile, Evelyn was extremely embarrassed. It was she who had brought James here, and now that James had admitted that he was a deliveryman, it meant her friend was associated with a penniless individual. For Evelyn, who adored vanity, this revelation was a significant blow.

"All right, now that you know the truth of the matter, I won't say much more. You all deal with this situation yourselves!" Jennifer looked at James with disdain and left without saying another word.
