Chapter 432 Let Time Heal Everything!
"What happened?" James asked softly as he walked over to Laura and Lily.
Laura was shocked to see James there. She never thought he'd show up at this moment!
But Lily knew exactly what was going on. She leaned in and whispered to James, "James, this guy was bothering Laura just now."
James turned to the man. The guy was stunned because he recognized James. His dad was a vice president at Charles's company, and he'd met James at a banquet at the Fairy Lake Resort.
The man looked at James, trembling, with a really unpleasant expression on his face. He couldn't believe Laura's fiancé was James.
"Mr. Smith, I... I..." The man stammered, trying to explain himself.
"Do you know me?" James asked, his face expressionless.
"Yes!" The man swallowed hard, nodding in fear.
"If you know me, then why are you still standing here? Apologize to my fiancée and get out of here!" James said, not wanting to waste time. Laura was about to board a plane, and he needed to make the most of their time.
"Okay... okay!" The man quickly nodded and nervously walked over to Laura. "Mrs. Smith, I... I was being presumptuous just now. I didn't know you were Mr. Smith's fiancée. I'm really sorry. Please forgive me!"
Laura glanced at the man indifferently without saying a word. The man instinctively looked towards James.
James had no interest in dealing with him and waved him off. The man felt relieved and quickly ran out of the lounge.
After the man left, James walked up to Laura and softly asked, "Laura, are you planning to go abroad?"
Laura looked James up and down and then asked, "How did you know?"
James glanced awkwardly at Lily without saying a word.
"Lily told you, didn't she?" Laura continued.
James neither confirmed nor denied it.
"Yes, I do want to leave for a while. Why are you here today? To persuade me to stay?" Laura asked, looking at James.
James hesitated for a couple of seconds, then said softly, "If persuading you would make you stay, I'd be more than willing to do it. But if you really need to go and clear your mind, I'll respect your choice."
Laura was surprised by James's words. She never expected him to actually agree to her going abroad. She thought he'd come to convince her to stay!
"Is that really what you think?" Laura asked, seemingly in disbelief.
"Of course!" James nodded gently at Laura.
"Aren't you worried about not getting that fortune?" Laura asked, her big eyes wide with emotion.
James paused for a couple of seconds, then said softly, "Of course, I'm worried about not inheriting the fortune. But it's not because I want the money. It's because if I don't get it, it may fall into the wrong hands. And honestly, you're way more important to me than any inheritance. Since you've decided to leave for a while, I'll respect your choice."
"James, stop lying to me. Is that really what you think?" Laura's expression was even more incredulous.
"That's exactly what I think. I didn't come here to persuade you to stay. I came to see you off," James said calmly, looking at Laura.
Laura stared at James, her expression full of disbelief. She never expected him to make such a decision. She thought he'd do everything to make her stay, but here he was, willing to let her go.
"If you ever want to come back, call me first thing. I'll come to pick you up!" James added, seeing Laura remain silent.
Laura was quiet for a long time, then looked up at James and said softly, "James, I'm planning to study at Harmony College for two years. I want to study at Harmony College. During these two years, you can think carefully about whether you want to be with me for the inheritance or because you truly love me. If it's for the inheritance, I'll help you get it, but I won't be your real wife. But if you genuinely want to be with me, I'd be very willing to be your real wife. Do you understand what I mean?"
Laura knew she had fallen in love with James. She wanted to go abroad not to clear her mind but to give James time to think about their relationship. Her words were clear: no matter if James loved her or not, she was willing to help him. But she hoped James could calm down and think carefully about their relationship. She wanted the purest love.
"I understand. While you're away, I'll think about it carefully. When you come back, I'll give you an answer." James nodded gently at Laura.
Laura hesitated for a couple of seconds, then took a deep breath and turned to Lily, saying, "Lily, let's go!"
"Okay!" Lily nodded, picked up her suitcase, and headed towards the boarding gate.
James stood there, watching Laura's distant figure, his eyes full of confusion. He didn't know what to do. He really wanted to persuade Laura to stay, but he knew that no matter what he did now, Laura wouldn't stay. So it was better to let go and let time heal everything.
