Chapter 292 The Hall Family
Inside the shopping mall.
James stood in front of the mirror, checking himself out and nodding with approval. But man, the price tag on this suit was insane.
A hundred grand for a suit? Seriously?
James had never worn anything this pricey in his life!
Laura was digging James's new look too. She glanced at her phone and said, "Alright, we've almost got everything. Let's head to my grandpa's for dinner!"
"Okay!" Nancy shouted, grabbing James and heading for the mall exit.
They left the city and drove towards Willowbrook.
About half an hour later, Laura's car pulled up in front of a villa in the Willowbrook suburbs.
After parking, Laura smiled and turned to James. "James, this is my grandpa's place."
"Okay!" James nodded, opened the car door, and got out.
As James walked into the villa, he noticed how peaceful it was inside.
In the middle of the courtyard, there were wooden flower racks with various vases on them, exotic flowers blooming everywhere, the air filled with the intoxicating fragrance, and birds chirped.
"Is this whole courtyard your grandpa's?" James asked Laura, clearly surprised.
"Yep!" Laura nodded.
"Pretty cool, huh? I grew up here!" Nancy said, looking at James with a proud smile.
James just smiled back at Nancy and walked into the courtyard.
A few minutes later, James followed Laura into the villa's living room.
In the living room, there were four sofas with several middle-aged folks sitting around, chatting and laughing.
An elderly man with silver hair sitting on one of the sofas smiled and called out, "Laura, Nancy, Lily!"
"Grandpa, it's been ages! Did you miss me?" Nancy ran over to the old man, grinning.
The old man chuckled and said warmly, "Of course, I missed you!"
"That's more like it!" Nancy had grown up with her grandpa, Conrad Hall, so they were super close.
"Conrad, this is Laura's fiancé, James!" Nancy introduced him before Laura could.
"James?" Conrad squinted and looked up at James.
James and Laura both looked pretty nervous, worried that Conrad might not like James and say something awkward.
"Not bad, young man. You look quite spirited!" Conrad said to James with a smile.
"Mr. Hall, it's my pleasure to meet you!" James didn't expect Conrad to be so kind, so he greeted him very politely.
Conrad nodded slightly, then turned to Laura and said, "Laura, Nancy, you two go play over there. We'll call you when it's time for dinner."
"Okay!" Laura happily agreed, then led the others into another room.
The Hall Family was pretty big. Conrad had four sons and four daughters.
Conrad's eldest son was Zachariah Hall, and Zachariah had a son named Reid Hall. Reid worked in a government office, and thanks to the Hall Family's connections, his future looked bright. Conrad valued him the most.
Conrad's second son was Joe, and Joe's daughter was Laura. A few years ago, Joe was doing better than Conrad's other kids, but recently, Joe and Laura's company hit some rough patches, making things tough for Joe.
Conrad's third son was Gino Hall, who also ran a company. Gino's company was doing slightly better than Joe's. Gino's son, Dorian, was the black sheep of the family, spending his days idly, without any meaningful pursuits or a proper job.
Conrad's fourth son was Nancy's father, Jerald Hall. Jerald was also in politics, but he was always in a mediocre position, just barely getting by.
Conrad also had four daughters. Besides Thalia, whom James had met before, the other three were Maeve Hall, Aurelia Hall, and Serafina Hall. But since they lived far from Willowbrook, they didn't interact much with Laura.
In such a big family, everyone seemed to get along on the surface, but the relationships were actually pretty complicated. Just the fact that Laura had found a fiancé like James had been mocked by many behind her back, but Laura was used to it and didn't care about others' opinions.
After chatting in the room for a while, they heard Isolde's voice from outside, "Laura, Nancy, come out for dinner!"
"Okay!" Laura replied, then turned to James and said, "James, let's go eat!"
James nodded. Maybe because he had already met Laura's grandpa, he wasn't as nervous as before.
Just as James was about to walk into the living room, a few familiar faces appeared in front of him.
Dorian's face darkened instantly when he saw James, and he shouted, "James, what are you doing here?"
Thalassa and Elowen stood beside Dorian, their eyes also filled with a hint of anger.
