Chapter 68: Be My Girlfriend
In this instance, James' intention to stop Linda was straightforward.
By keeping Linda by his side, James could ensure that if anything happened to her, he could promptly summon Terry's assistance. However, if Linda went to the hospital with Rex, James would be unaware of any potential dangers along the way and would be unable to help.
Unaware of James' concerns, Linda was already very angry with him for having witnessed Rex being beaten without saying a word.
At this moment, as Linda was preparing to take Rex to the hospital, James blocked her path, making Linda even begin to think that James was losing his mind.
"James, get out of my way!" Linda's voice was cold as she shouted at James.
"Linda, I can go to the hospital by myself. You just stay here." Unexpectedly, Rex spoke up and advised Linda not to accompany him.
Touched by Rex's words, Linda saw nothing but love in his eyes. Innocently good-hearted, Linda interpreted Rex's words as an attempt to spare her from trouble.
Meanwhile, James was puzzled. He couldn't understand why Rex refused to go to the hospital with Linda.
"No, you just got beat up because of me just now. I must take you to the hospital!" Linda insisted firmly on Rex.
Feeling reluctant after hearing Linda's words, Rex remained silent, causing Linda to take his arm and lead him toward the exit of the room.
"You can't take him to the hospital!" However, at that moment, James once again blocked Linda's path.
"James, get out of my way! My business is none of your business! Not only did you not help Rex when he was attacked earlier, but now you won't let me take him to the hospital. What exactly are you thinking?" Linda expressed her impatience and pushed past James, leading Rex towards the exit of the room.
Sighing helplessly as he watched Linda and Rex depart, James didn't chase after them to stop them. If Linda didn't trust him, there was nothing he could do.
A short time later, Linda and Rex left in the elevator.
Alone, James returned to his room. However, at that moment, his phone rang.
Glancing at his phone, James saw that Terry was calling.
"Hello," James answered the call.
"James, shall we come up now? What's the situation over there?" Terry inquired urgently.
"No need, the situation has been resolved," James replied casually.
"Alright, James!" Terry had waited downstairs for two hours, only to find that James didn't need his assistance.
If it had been anyone else, Terry would have gone up to confront him. But it was James, so not only did Terry not dare to upset him, but also responded deferentially.
"Could you investigate two more people for me?" James continued.
"Who are they?" Terry quickly asked.
"One is a person on the Stream Verse platform with the ID 'Lumina City Mr. Martinez,' and the other is called Rex," James stated slowly.
Terry seemed a bit uncomfortable when he heard James' request.
"Is there a problem?" James asked softly.
"James, investigating Lumina City Mr. Martinez on the Stream Verse platform is fine; I can find his information through the platform's internal staff. However, investigating Rex may be a challenge, considering there are too many people named Rex nationwide," Terry explained slowly.
"Rex is from Lumina City, and I've met this person!" James hesitated before stating.
"In that case, it's much easier. I'll gather photos of all the people named Rex in Lumina City and have you confirm. This way, we can find the person you mentioned," Terry swiftly replied.
"Good!" James agreed and promptly hung up the phone.
On the other hand, Linda helped Rex leave the rental apartment and stood by the side of the road, getting ready to hail a taxi to take Rex to the hospital.
"Rex, please hold on a bit. My house is very close to the hospital, and we should get there quickly," Linda softly said to Rex.
"Linda, I'm fine. Maybe we shouldn't go to the hospital after all?" Rex sounded somewhat resigned as he spoke to Linda.
Rex had his reasons for not wanting Linda to accompany him to the hospital at the moment. He had no money for medical treatment. All his money had been spent on taking Linda out to dinner, and he had even rented expensive branded clothes to portray himself as a wealthy gentleman. The cost of renting these clothes was exorbitant, and if he didn't return it before midnight, he would have to pay a hefty fine.
With no money for medical treatment, how could he afford a penalty fee?
"No, you're bleeding. I have to take you to the hospital." Linda persisted firmly.
"Linda, I really don't need to go to the hospital. Actually, I have other things to do. Why don't you head back, and after I take care of things, I'll go to the hospital myself, okay?" Rex gently suggested to Linda.
"What? Nothing is more important than going to the hospital for treatment," Linda paused for a moment and asked.
"I need to investigate Mr. Martinez from Lumina City who has been bothering you. Since he dared to mistreat you and even sent people to beat me, I will not let them off!'" In a desperate move, Rex fabricated an excuse and continued, "Linda, fortunately, I was there today. If not, who knows what they would have done to you? I absolutely cannot allow anyone to mistreat you like this. I must confront this Lumina City Mr. Martinez and teach him a real lesson!"
Upon hearing Rex's words, Linda was deeply moved. Despite his injuries, Rex was still thinking about how to get revenge for her.
Feeling touched, Linda wished she could undress and offer herself to him right at that moment.
"Rex, why are you so kind to me?" Tears shimmered in Linda's beautiful eyes as she asked gently.
"From the first moment saw you, I fell in love with you. If you agree to be my girlfriend, I feel that everything I've endured today is worth it!" Rex gazed at Linda as emotionally he confessed.
"Rex, you..." Linda was caught off guard by Rex's sudden confession.
"Linda, I truly like you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Rex continued to ask.
