Chapter 182 Came to Me on His Own
At 1 AM in a quiet Lumina City neighborhood, Yancy was seriously rubbing his swollen face with an egg. He'd just ticked off Janet, and now Terry was calling. Yancy had a bad feeling.
"Why are you scared of her?" Xavier, drunk and stumbling in, shouted excitedly at Yancy.
"Mind your own business," Yancy snapped.
"Today was humiliating. We both got beat up by that loser James. If people find out, we're done in Lumina City," Xavier whined.
"Who knows how that guy knows someone like Miss Carter!" Yancy said, frustrated.
"Are you just gonna let this go?" Xavier shook Yancy's shoulders, yelling.
Yancy's face darkened. "What else can we do? Mr. Campbell called, and he didn't sound happy. Maybe it's about James..."
"No way. She said she wouldn't hold it against us. She wouldn't complain to Mr. Campbell," Xavier said angrily.
"Let's hope not." Yancy sighed. "For now, don't mess with James. Wait till things cool down, then I'll deal with him."
"Alright," Xavier nodded, staying quiet.
Suddenly, there was a series of urgent knocks.
Yancy froze, then quickly opened the door. Seeing James, he was stunned and confused.
"James? What are you doing here?" Yancy shouted angrily.
Though Yancy planned to deal with James later, he was wary of his connection to Janet. He never expected James to come to him.
"Yeah, it's me," James replied calmly.
"You little punk, let me tell you something," Yancy shouted, his finger jabbing angrily at James' nose. "I'm letting you off today because of Miss Carter. If it weren't for her, I'd have already broken your legs. So you'd better get the hell out of here and don't let me see you again. Got it?"
"If not for Janet, do you think you'd still be standing here talking to me?" James said, pushing Yancy aside and walking into the house.
"Think just because you know Miss Carter, we won't touch you?" Xavier shouted, grabbing an ashtray and charging at James.
Just then, a voice came from behind James. "Yancy, Xavier, are you guys tired of living?"
Yancy and Xavier froze in their tracks, their faces a picture of shock.
Terry strolled into the room with a relaxed demeanor.
"Mr. Campbell?" Yancy's jaw dropped. Even he couldn't stay calm.
Xavier dropped the ashtray.
Seeing their reactions, James smirked and sat on the sofa, looking smug.
James had guessed they'd react like this!
"Mr. Campbell, why are you here?" Yancy stammered, looking terrified.
Terry didn't answer, just slapped Yancy and shouted, "Who do you think you are, hitting Mr. Smith? You tired of living?"
"Mr. Smith?" Yancy, not daring to resist, looked at James with newfound respect.
Xavier was even more confused!
He thought, 'How could James, a bartender, be Mr. Smith?'
"What's going on?" Yancy asked Terry, holding his swollen face.
"James is our company's new chairman. What do you think is going on?" Terry replied coldly.
Yancy was stunned.
Back in the day, Terry and Yancy were notorious in Lumina City. Terry had started a company to manage his crew.
In the company, roles were assigned based on status.
Yancy had started as Terry's driver but got promoted to manager of the Southern New District after saving Terry's life.
To outsiders, Yancy was the boss of the Southern New District, running all its operations.
Terry was the general manager, seen as the real boss of Lumina City, controlling almost everything.
Yancy had thought Terry owned the company, never expecting there to be a chairman above him. That meant Terry had been working for James all along.
James was the real boss, outranking Terry!
"Mr. Campbell, you must be joking. James can't be our chairman!" Yancy said, trembling.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" Terry sneered.
Only then did Yancy get what James had meant earlier!
Janet hadn't saved James today; she had saved Yancy himself!
If Yancy had broken James' legs, it would've been like breaking his boss Terry's legs!
Yancy's legs gave out, and he knelt before James with a thud!
"What's going on?" Xavier, still confused, asked as he saw Yancy kneeling before James.
