Chapter 190 A Woman Who Abandoned Her Dignity
"James, I know you're still mad, but I'm serious. Can we try again? Let's get back together." Jennifer clung to James' leg, pleading.
James looked at her, hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "Alright, let's get back together."
Yancy and Jennifer were both shocked. They never thought James would agree so easily.
Yancy stood there, confused. He couldn't understand why James would take Jennifer back.
"James, are you serious? You're really taking me back?" Jennifer asked, excited.
"Yeah, it's true." James nodded calmly.
Jennifer's face lit up. She couldn't believe how easily James agreed.
She thought, 'James is such a pushover. If it were me, I'd have made some crazy demands. But this works out better for me. Now Michael is nothing compared to James. My bad luck turned into a blessing, and now I'm dating a super-rich guy!'
Jennifer laughed to herself inside, wiped her tears, and said in a pitiful tone, "James, I've realized you're the one I love. I broke up with you to protect you from Michael."
"Really?" James asked.
"Yes, I only agreed to be with Michael to protect you. If I hadn't, he would have never let you go!" Jennifer paused, then nestled up against James with a sly smile. "But that's all in the past. Now that I'm back with you, I promise I'll never leave you again. I'll take care of you for the rest of my life!"
"Are you planning to be with me or my money?" James asked with a smirk.
"What? Of course, I want to be with you. Do you think I'm a gold-digger? I was with you when you had nothing," Jennifer retorted quickly.
James nodded, then pushed her away.
"James, why are you pushing me away? We've just gotten back together. Don't you want to be close to me?" Jennifer moved in closer to James.
Without hesitation, James slapped her hard. The sound echoed.
Jennifer gasped and fell to the floor, a mix of shock and pain on her face.
This slap carried all of James' pent-up resentment.
James knew that if it weren't for inheriting trillions and the support of Terry and Charles, he would have been utterly crushed by Jennifer by now.
Whether it was the false accusations of theft or Yancy's recent actions, Jennifer had always been gunning for his complete downfall. James couldn't wrap his head around why she harbored such malicious intentions, why she seemed bent on his ruin.
Back when he was struggling to make ends meet, James worked tirelessly delivering food just to keep Jennifer happy and to satisfy her vanity. Even if it meant eating only one meal a day, he would still buy her the cosmetics she desired.
James had given everything for Jennifer, only to be met with betrayal and manipulation in return.
And now, seeing Jennifer's attempt to reconcile only because of his newfound wealth, James found her repulsive beyond measure.
"James, why did you hit me? Did I do something wrong?" Jennifer asked, looking hurt but not daring to get angry.
"You deserved it. Any objections?" James replied coldly.
Jennifer was stunned, then quickly said, "You're right, I deserved it. If you haven't vented enough, you can keep hitting me!"
As James looked at Jennifer, who was nearly driven to madness by the lust for money, he felt a deep sense of helplessness. He finally understood why some women would give up their dignity for wealth.
"Jennifer, the more you act like this, the more disgusted I feel. I've never hit a woman before, but I slapped you to make you remember. Don't ever come near me again. Do you understand?" James said firmly.
"James, what do you mean? Didn't you just say you wanted to get back together? Why are you saying this now?" Jennifer shouted, confused.
"We got back together, but now I'm breaking up with you. Don't bother me again. Let's stay out of each other's lives, understand?" James replied calmly.
"Are you playing with me? If you didn't want to be with me, why did you get back together?" Jennifer shouted, almost hysterical.
"Playing with you?" James sneered. "Jennifer, do you think you're that important? From the moment you betrayed me, you were dead to me. Every time I see you, I feel nothing but disgust."
"Then why did you get back together with me? Why did you bet with Michael?" Jennifer asked coldly.
"I bet Michael to show you that you're just a toy to him. And I got back together with you to show you that you mean nothing to me. I can win you back with money, and I can discard you just as easily. To me, you're a dispensable toy. Do you understand that?" James stated, his face expressionless.
"I understand." Jennifer stood there, dazed.
"From now on, I don't want to see you again. Don't bother me, or you'll regret it!" James said firmly.
Jennifer looked at James and felt a chill. She realized he was no longer the same James.
"James, you'll regret this!" Jennifer said through gritted teeth.
"Regret what? Not getting back together with you?" James asked coldly.
"You'll regret it one day. If you make my life miserable, I'll make sure yours is just as hellish!" Jennifer shouted crazily.
James looked at her, sneered, and walked out of the factory.
Yancy glanced at Jennifer, then followed James out.
"James, I will make you regret this!" Jennifer yelled after him, her face twisted with fury as she watched him leave.
