Chapter 26 Learning to Bark Ten Times
"Mr. Campbell!"
Kevin, bewildered by Brian's sudden kick, couldn't help but look up at Terry, questioning with confusion, "Brian, why did you kick me? Who's Mr. Campbell?"
Brian then delivered a slap to Kevin's face, visibly excited as he exclaimed, "This is Terry, Mr. Campbell!"
"Terry!" Upon hearing Brian's words, Kevin was dumbfounded.
All present stood frozen in place, their faces expressing fear and shock as they gazed at the well-dressed gentleman before them.
After a long pause, Kevin finally regained his senses, knelt on the ground, and bowed to Terry with great fear, saying apologetically, "Mr. Campbell, I didn't know it was you. I would never have dared to speak to you like that if I had known!"
"I came with James. I heard that someone here may have offended him," Terry said calmly.
"James?" Kevin, still kneeling, paused at these words, beginning to tremble uncontrollably, looking up with a sense of despair toward where James stood.
James calmly walked up to Kevin, asking, "I recall moments ago in this room, you enjoyed humiliating me, is that right?"
"James, I'm sorry. I had no idea of your esteemed status. I had no clue that you even knew Mr. Campbell. If I had known, I would never have disrespected you!"
Kevin, now realizing that a poor delivery boy like himself had a friend like Terry, had no time to dwell on this revelation and could only apologize and plead for leniency from James.
"Did you hear what I said earlier?" James asked Kevin in a flat tone.
Upon hearing James' question, Kevin hesitated for a moment before looking up at James.
Without further ado, James extended his right foot towards Kevin and remarked softly, "I mentioned earlier that my shoes seem a bit dirty."
Kevin turned to Brian beside him, hoping for support. However, Brian was well aware of Terry's standing, which commanded such deference. This indicated that James' background was undoubtedly formidable.
"James mentioned his shoes were dirty. Didn't you hear?" Terry coldly commanded.
"I heard!" Kevin trembled in fear, quickly crouching down, ready to lick James' shoes.
As Kevin crouched down, preparing to touch his tongue to the shoe, James suddenly moved his foot away.
Confused, Kevin followed suit with his head.
However, James then repositioned his foot again.
"What do you mean by this, James?" Kevin looked up at James, puzzled and somewhat uneasy.
"It means nothing; I find your mouth dirty," James said flatly.
Upon hearing James' words, Kevin froze in place, feeling extremely embarrassed and awkward. He strained to address James, saying begrudgingly, "Yes, my mouth is dirty. It doesn't suit the caliber of your shoes."
"You needn't lick the shoes. Instead, try barking like a dog ten times," James said softly to Kevin.
"Okay."
Terrified by Terry, Kevin dared not disobey James' directive. As soon as the words left James' mouth, he dropped to the ground and started barking like a dog.
As soon as Kevin finished his barking, James turned to Terry and muttered softly, "Terry, let's go."
Upon hearing James' words, Brian broke out in a cold sweat. Who would have imagined that Terry, the influential figure in Lumina City, would be treated like James' subordinate? This curiosity deepened Brian's interest in James' true identity.
"Of course, James!" Terry respectfully responded before following James out of the private room.
Brian hesitated briefly, then picked up the stack of hundred thousand dollars from the table, hurried over to James, and with a sheepish smile, said, "James, we deeply regret today's incident. We did not mean to offend you. Please take back this money!"
"Keep the money. I don't care about that sum!" James replied coldly, not even glancing at Brian, turning on his heel and exiting the room.
Brian stood awkwardly with the money, his face filled with puzzlement. If James truly was as Kevin had described—a poor delivery guy—the fact that he knew someone like Terry, along with his indifference toward a hundred thousand dollars, was a revelation that left Brian utterly perplexed.
Meanwhile, Kevin remained on the floor, feeling deeply aggrieved.
