Chapter 372 The Conspiracy Succeeds
James, who had originally given up hope of inheriting the estate, felt a spark of hope reignite upon hearing Charles' words.
He hadn't expected that even at this point, Charles still had a trump card up his sleeve, which indeed exceeded James' expectations.
Charles gave James a mysterious smile. "I can't tell you now."
"Why can't you tell me? Are you pulling my leg?"
James didn't believe that Charles had any trump card left, as the situation had reached an impasse.
"Mr. Smith, I'm really not. It's just that I'm not sure if this trump card will work, so I can't tell you what it is right now. But rest assured, if it does work, our chances of winning today will go from one percent to fifty percent!" Charles said seriously to James.
"Is it really that powerful?" James couldn't help but mutter softly.
Charles just gave James a mysterious smile without saying anything.
"By the way, Charles, there's something I don't understand. Why are you still helping me at this point? I haven't exactly been good to you. Why aren't you trying to curry favor with Matthew instead of standing by my side?" James asked Charles, puzzled.
"When this is all over, and if you are still the heir, Mr. Smith, I'll tell you why I'm helping you!" Charles replied mysteriously.
"You're always keeping me in suspense!" James cursed with a very dissatisfied expression.
Charles just chuckled and didn't say much more.
"Mr. Smith, Mr. Wilson, the video analysis results are out. Please come back to the conference room."
A lawyer came out of the conference room and respectfully addressed James and Charles.
Charles nodded slightly and then said to James, "Mr. Smith, let's go in."
"Okay!"
James responded and then walked into the conference room.
When James and Charles returned to the conference room, Matthew and the others had already gone in.
"Mr. Soto, this is so obvious. Why waste time here? Just disqualify that kid from being the heir!" Matthew aggressively shouted at Eldon.
"Mr. Edwards, Mr. Smith is the sole heir designated by Willard, so we must respect Mr. Smith. Even if he has indeed violated the will's provisions, it must be executed only with conclusive evidence. So please, bear with us a little longer!" Eldon replied seriously.
Matthew sneered disdainfully and said, "The video is right in front of you. Do you still think the evidence is insufficient?"
Eldon gave Matthew a faint glance, then walked to the podium at the front of the conference room and said methodically, "After thorough analysis by our legal team, we have determined that the video provided by Mr. Edwards has not been tampered with and can be used as evidence."
Upon hearing Eldon's words, everyone looked up at him, and the conference room fell silent.
"According to the will left by Willard Ramirez, if Mr. Smith wants to inherit the estate, he must marry Laura and make her genuinely fall in love with him."
"But to prevent Mr. Smith from using improper means to coerce Laura into marriage, the will also stipulates that he cannot reveal his identity or any information about the inheritance to Laura before they are married."
"If Mr. Smith violates the will's provisions, he will be disqualified from inheriting the estate. If there is a dispute, it must be re-arbitrated by the legal team to determine whether he is still eligible to inherit the estate."
Eldon turned to James and asked, "Mr. Smith, these provisions of the will should have been explained to you by Mr. Wilson when you inherited the estate, right?"
"They were explained." James nodded at Eldon.
"That's good!"
Eldon took a deep breath and then said to everyone, "Our legal team has also conducted a technical analysis of the video provided by Mr. Edwards and confirmed its authenticity. The actions of Mr. Smith in the video clearly violate the provisions of the inheritance contract, so we believe that Mr. Smith has violated the will's provisions and is no longer eligible to inherit the estate."
Upon hearing this, Matthew revealed a smug smile. His long-planned scheme had finally succeeded.
"James, you are no longer the heir to Chairman Willard. Therefore, from now on, we will review all your expenses during this period, and you will need to repay all of them. I hope you will cooperate with our work."
"Wait a minute!"
Before Eldon could finish speaking, Charles suddenly interrupted.
Eldon turned to Charles, a hint of confusion in his eyes, and asked softly, "Mr. Wilson, do you have any objections?"
"I was with Mr. Smith last night when that incident happened. The reason James revealed his identity was that someone was deliberately framing him!"
Charles risked offending the future master, Matthew, by saying this.
If he could change the legal team's mind today and make James the heir again, that would be good. But if he failed, Matthew would definitely not let Charles off the hook.
Upon hearing Charles' words, Matthew couldn't help but look at him, a hint of malice in his eyes.
"What do you mean by someone deliberately framing Mr. Smith?" Eldon asked, frowning.
"Last night, someone deliberately kidnapped Laura and threatened to disfigure her to force Mr. Smith to reveal his identity. This was clearly a trap, so I don't think Mr. Smith's heir status should be revoked because of this incident!" Charles said righteously.
The lawyers in the conference room, as well as Matthew and the others, were all stunned upon hearing Charles' words.
After all, Charles had been by Willard's side the longest, and he used to be Willard's most trusted subordinate. So, Charles' words carried a lot of weight.
