Chapter 276 Piano Competition

Vivienne noticed Lily staying quiet and figured she was overwhelmed by Lyle's identity. She smirked, feeling all smug.

Stepping closer, she taunted Lily, "What's the matter, Lily? Cat got your tongue? Scared to go up against me?"

Lily rolled her eyes and turned to the woman next to her. "Madeline, can you show us to the music room?"

"Sure thing!" Madeline nodded and led the way.

Everyone followed her into the music room. When Lily saw her old piano, her eyes lit up. It had been ages since she'd seen it.

Laura and the others stood beside her, keeping quiet.

"Vivienne, weren't you itching for a piano showdown? When do we start?" Lily asked, her voice calm.

"Anytime you're ready," Vivienne replied, trying to sound casual.

Lily walked over and sat down at the piano, her fingers gently brushing the keys. A smile spread across her face; her entire being seemed to radiate an aura of confidence.

Vivienne snorted, rolling her eyes. "Still putting on a show, huh? Some things never change."

Vivienne's boyfriend, Lyle, couldn't take his eyes off Lily. His greedy gaze revealed that he wasn't a good guy.

"Honey, you have to help me win this!" Vivienne, not noticing Lyle's stare, pouted and shouted excitedly.

"Don't worry, babe," Lyle said, oozing confidence.

"You're the best, honey. Give me a kiss!" Vivienne leaned in and kissed Lyle on his pimple-covered face.

James watched and smiled wryly. The competition hadn't even started, and these two were already acting like they had it in the bag.

"Lily, you have to beat them!" Nancy said, her face scrunched up in disgust.

"It's not that simple," Laura sighed.

"Why? Didn't you say Lily was really good?" Nancy asked, her big eyes wide with confusion.

"Lily is good, but Lyle is even better," Laura explained. "Nancy, Richard Clayderman is a world-renowned pianist, and Lyle is his student. His skills are top-notch. But Lily only studied piano for a few years as a kid. Up against a pro like Lyle, she's at a huge disadvantage."

After hearing Laura's words, Nancy pouted, starting to doubt that Lily could beat Lyle. "I didn't expect this guy to be so impressive."

James stood there with a serious expression, looking at Lily and Lyle, lost in thought.

Laura, noticing James's expression, quickly asked, "James, are you okay?"

James shook his head, saying, "I'm fine..."

"Then why do you look unhappy? Are you feeling unwell? If you are, I can take you back now!" Laura said with concern.

"It's just some old memories came back to me," James said softly.

Laura didn't press further.

In the music room, Lily and Lyle sat at their respective pianos.

Lily closed her eyes and touched the keys, her expression calm but her heart racing with excitement. It had been ages since she last played this piano, and now, touching the keys again, she felt a mix of emotions.

Lyle, on the other hand, looked relaxed. Being a professional pianist, he wasn't nervous at all facing an amateur like Lily.

"Lily, you're a lady. I'll let you choose the piece," Lyle offered gentlemanly.

"Whatever you want to play is fine with me," Lily replied casually.

Hearing this, Vivienne sneered and pouted, "Of course, it doesn't matter what piece you play. You'll lose anyway."

James couldn't help but glance at Vivienne and frown. Although Vivienne was somewhat attractive, her personality was quite unpleasant, especially her sharp tongue.

Vivienne noticed James's gaze and glared at him, shouting, "Hey, loser, what are you looking at? Do you want me to gouge your eyes out?"

Laura, already displeased with Vivienne, seized the opportunity and stepped forward, shouting at her, "James is my fiancé. How dare you talk to him like that!"

Seeing who was speaking, Vivienne's expression changed slightly, and then she sneered, "Laura? Seriously, have you been lonely for too long to find a loser like this as your fiancé? You're really desperate!"

Laura's eyes flashed with anger at Vivienne's words. She hadn't expected the Mae family to become so arrogant over the years, not even respecting the Hall Family. A few years ago, Vivienne wouldn't have dared to speak to Laura like this.

"Laura, there's no need to stoop to their level. The Mae family has survived all these years by running their mouths. Let's start the competition," Lily said calmly.

Vivienne turned to Lily and said, "Lily, I remember your best piece was 'Mariage d'amour,' right? How about playing 'Mariage d'amour' today?"
