Chapter 227 I'm Going to Find My Fiancée
Sylvie: [SuperSmith. Hey, I'm Sylvie!]
James stared at the message from Sylvie, feeling a weird mix of emotions.
He knew why Sylvie was reaching out. Ever since he inherited the previous chairman's estate, girls had been flocking to him for his money.
James was no fool. He knew these girls weren't interested in him for who he was. They were after his cash.
Back when he was broke, not a single girl gave him the time of day. Even Jennifer, the girlfriend he thought he could trust, ditched him for money.
But now that he was loaded, women were suddenly all over him. And he wasn't into these gold-diggers at all. He liked girls like Laura.
Laura didn't know he was rich, and she didn't seem to care that he was poor.
James looked at Sylvie's message and felt uneasy.
He didn't think Sylvie was a gold-digger. If she was, she wouldn't have treated him the way she did when he was broke. Sure, she joked about wanting a rich guy, but he always thought she was just messing around.
However, seeing her message now, his good impression of her started to fade.
"Guess most women are just after money," James sighed and turned off his phone.
He had helped Sylvie as a friend, with no other intentions. He figured replying now might lead to misunderstandings, so he decided not to.
He put his phone down and lay back, thinking about how to explain the whole Jennifer situation to Laura tomorrow.
Just then, his phone buzzed again.
James picked it up, a bit annoyed, and saw another message from Sylvie.
Sylvie: [SuperSmith, I know it's kinda sudden to message you like this, but I really don't have any hidden motives. First off, thanks for helping me out during my competition. But I'm someone who believes in repaying kindness. We're basically strangers, and you tipped a lot of money in my stream today. It makes me uneasy. So, I want to return the money. Can you send me your bank account number?]
James read her long message, a smile spreading across his face.
He had totally misunderstood Sylvie.
She wasn't trying to flatter him; she just wanted to return the money.
'Maybe not all women are materialistic. At least Laura and Sylvie aren't,' James thought, then replied, [It's really no big deal, you can keep it!]
"How can I accept that? Please send me your bank account number!" Sylvie quickly replied.
"No need, you can repay the favor when I need your help in the future!" James suggested.
"Alright then! Thanks a lot for today!" Sylvie responded.
James smiled at her message, then turned off his phone and lay down to rest.
Eight o'clock in the morning..
James woke up and headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
As he finished, Sylvie emerged from her room, yawning and looking sleepy.
Some women just had that natural allure, makeup or no makeup. Sylvie was definitely one of them. Even with a bare face, she was sexy and charming, radiating an irresistible aura.
"James, why are you up so early?" Sylvie asked softly.
"I've got something to do," James replied casually.
"What is it?" Sylvie blinked her big, watery eyes, curious.
"You wouldn't get it even if I told you."
James wasn't about to tell Sylvie he was going to explain the situation with Jennifer's photo to Laura. She'd just tease him about it.
"I'm in a good mood today, so I'm treating you to breakfast. You coming?" Sylvie offered.
"I don't have time, you go ahead," James responded.
Even if Sylvie had invited him to a grand feast, he wouldn't be in the mood. He just wanted to clear things up with Laura.
After saying this, James headed for the door.
"James, what could be more important than breakfast with me?" Sylvie quickly stopped him.
"Can I take a rain check? I really have something urgent today!" James pleaded helplessly.
"James, let me tell you, SuperSmith might be my sugar daddy any day now, and then I'll be married into a wealthy family. In the future, even if you want to invite me, I might not have time for you!" Sylvie said, a bit annoyed.
James couldn't help but glance at her. Sylvie didn't know that SuperSmith was actually him, and he remembered clearly what she said yesterday.
"What? Regretting it now?" Sylvie walked up to James with a smile.
"I'm going to find my fiancée to explain the incident with those photos of me in bed with someone else, so I really don't have time for breakfast today!" James explained, knowing Sylvie wouldn't let him go easily otherwise.
"You're going to find your fiancée?" Sylvie quickly asked.
"Yes."
"Then I'll go with you!" Sylvie said with a smile.
"Are you trying to get me in trouble? I'm going to clear up a misunderstanding with her. What would it look like if I brought you along?" James shouted, feeling a bit exasperated.
"You're right. How about I drive you there? She'll definitely think you're a rich guy, and then you can give her some flowers and say some sweet words, problem solved!" Sylvie suggested seriously.
"No need." James refused. He couldn't reveal his identity to Laura, so pretending to be a rich guy wouldn't work.
But he could take the suggestion of buying flowers for Laura!
