Chapter 375 The Conflicted Laura
Inside Willowbrook.
Laura was slumped in a chair, staring at her phone with a conflicted look on her face. She'd just gotten a text from Charles.
The message was short and to the point.
[Miss Hall, there's less than an hour left until the arbitration ends. If you don't show up within this hour, Mr. Smith will completely lose his inheritance rights!]
Laura read the message over and over, unsure of what to do.
Lily's pep talk last night had eased some of Laura's anger towards James, but it didn't mean she was ready to forgive him. In fact, she didn't want to see James at all right now.
Plus, there was a big issue: Laura couldn't stand the idea of helping James in this way.
It felt too humiliating.
"Damn it, why do I have to deal with this? It's so frustrating..."
Laura, looking agitated, tossed her phone aside and walked to the window, staring blankly at the scenery outside. She had no clue what to do.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
"Who is it?" Laura snapped, clearly annoyed.
"Laura, it's me!" Lily's voice came from outside.
"Lily, it's you. The door's not locked, come in!" Laura replied, her tone softening a bit.
Lily pushed open the door and, seeing Laura's troubled face, gave her a gentle smile. "What's wrong? Still torn about whether to help James?"
"Why should I care about his well-being? Every time I think about how he deceived me for so long, I want to kill him. I'm not going to save him!" Laura pouted, her voice fierce.
"If you really felt that way, you wouldn't be so troubled right now," Lily said with a knowing smile.
Laura was taken aback by Lily's words, then blinked and asked, "Lily, do you think I should help James?"
"Whether to help James is your call. But no matter what your choice is, I'll back you up," Lily replied calmly.
"Come on, I just want to hear your opinion. By the way, why did you come to see me?" Laura pouted, looking at Lily.
"I came to tell you that Terry is at our house now, waiting in the villa. Do you want to see him?" Lily said softly.
"No. I haven't decided whether to help James yet. I'll think about it first!" Laura waved her hand irritably.
She knew that if she went out now, Terry would try to persuade her, and she wouldn't be able to resist, so it was better not to see him!
Seeing Laura's attitude, Lily sighed and said flatly, "Laura, I think the reason you're so conflicted isn't that you don't want to help James."
"Then what is it?" Laura asked, genuinely curious.
"You just don't want to forgive James so quickly. After all, he deceived you for so long. To put it simply, you're sulking with James!" Lily knew Laura well and hit the nail on the head.
"I..." Laura wanted to argue.
"Don't rush to argue. I'm not trying to meddle in your issues with James. I just want to tell you that now is not the time to sulk with him. The other side has set a huge trap to take the inheritance from James. If you help him now, he might get it back. But if you don't, he might lose it for good!" Lily said seriously.
"Oh, Lily, I didn't say I wouldn't help James. I just don't know what's going on with him, and the thought of helping him this way makes me feel so embarrassed!" Laura shouted, clearly agitated.
"What way?" Lily asked, puzzled.
"It's... I can't tell you. Just leave me alone for a while!" Laura replied softly.
Lily shook her head helplessly and said, "There's less than half an hour left. I suggest you think it over quickly, or you might not even have a chance to regret it."
"Got it!" Laura replied impatiently.
Lily hesitated for a moment, then turned and left the room, leaving Laura standing there, lost in thought.
Meanwhile, on the 38th floor of Innovation Hub Tower, in Charles's office.
James and Charles were waiting anxiously for Laura, while Matthew looked very relaxed.
Matthew figured that since Laura hadn't shown up yet, she probably wouldn't come. And even if she did, she was an outsider, so what could she do?
The lawyers in the conference room were busy organizing James's recent expense reports.
In no time, half an hour had passed.
Charles's expression grew more anxious, his eyes glued to the elevator exit, occasionally glancing at his phone.
James was equally tense, not because he was worried about losing the inheritance, but because he was worried that Laura wouldn't forgive him.
If Laura came today, it would mean she had forgiven him. But if she didn't, it meant she still couldn't forgive him.
"Mr. Smith, why don't you call Miss Hall yourself?" Charles suggested, thinking waiting like this was pointless. Maybe James could persuade Laura.
James hesitated, then said softly, "Alright, I'll give it a try!"
With that, James got up and prepared to leave.
