Chapter 231 A Chance Encounter with Sylvie
At ten in the morning, James drove Laura over to Dawnlight Square.
Dawnlight Square was in the northeast part of Lumina City, a historic area with a century-old vibe.
There were a lot of tourists around, but because Dawnlight Square wasn't in the best spot, it lagged behind in commercial development.
After parking nearby, James followed Laura inside.
They walked side by side, looking like a couple in love.
Laura was in a great mood, chatting with James every now and then.
She was dressed to the nines today, with a killer figure that turned heads as they strolled down the street.
People couldn't help but be surprised when they saw James with her.
James knew why they were curious but didn't care; he was used to it.
"The restaurant I mentioned is just up ahead!" Laura pointed out a place not far away and turned to James.
"Let's go in then!" James nodded and got ready to follow her inside.
But before they could enter, a striking figure walked out.
James was stunned, his face showing pure shock.
It was Sylvie, the internet celebrity he had just parted ways with recently.
Next to Sylvie was an older woman, looking pretty annoyed as she talked to her.
Sylvie was dressed provocatively in a white low-cut tank top that hugged her curves and a short skirt that barely covered her hips, showing off her long, fair legs.
But James wasn't in the mood to admire Sylvie's figure; he knew she was always up to something unexpected.
If she saw him with Laura, who knew what kind of trouble she'd stir up.
So, after a moment's hesitation, James quickly ducked into a nearby corner before Sylvie could spot him.
Laura, leading the way, didn't notice James had left. Sylvie also seemed unaware of James as she followed the older woman into a white sedan.
Seeing the white sedan slowly drive away, James finally breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that if he hadn't reacted quickly, things could've gotten messy.
But James didn't know that just as he stepped out from the corner, Sylvie, sitting in the car, instinctively turned to look back.
When Sylvie saw James walking out from the corner, she gave a mysterious smile and muttered, "James, you still dare to hide from me? Let's see how I'll deal with you later!"
"Sylvie, what are you mumbling about?" the older woman asked, puzzled.
"Nothing." Sylvie shook her head lightly.
Meanwhile, after seeing Sylvie leave, James walked straight into the restaurant.
At that moment, Laura noticed James was missing and hurriedly ran out of the restaurant.
When she saw James walking towards her, Laura let out a long sigh of relief and said, a bit reproachfully, "James, where did you go? I thought you got lost!"
"I'm not a kid, how could I get lost? I just ran into an old classmate and chatted for a bit," James explained softly.
"Oh, I see!"
Laura didn't think much of it and pulled James into the restaurant.
James was pretty happy at that moment because he could tell from Laura's expression that she seemed to care a lot about him.
This kind of care was precious to James since not many girls among his friends genuinely cared about him like this.
After they got inside, they found a corner seat.
James let Laura order, being the gentleman, and Laura didn't hesitate, grabbing the menu and starting to order.
One by one, names of dishes James had never heard of flowed from Laura's lips.
James watched her seriously ordering and felt somewhat relieved.
He was glad he handed the menu to Laura; otherwise, he wouldn't have known what to pick.
"Alright, that'll be all for now!"
Laura closed the menu and turned to the waiter.
"Okay, please wait a moment," the waiter replied respectfully and then left.
After the waiter left, they had to wait for the food.
This was James's first time having a meal alone with Laura, so he didn't know what to say.
And as a girl, Laura naturally wouldn't start the conversation.
So, the atmosphere got a bit awkward.
"So, how's your company doing lately?"
After thinking for a while, James finally came up with a topic he thought was decent.
Hearing this, Laura couldn't help but smile, looking particularly charming.
"Why are you laughing?" James asked when he saw her smile.
"You thought for so long and came up with such a boring topic," Laura teased.
James smiled awkwardly, scratched his head, and said, "I rarely chat with girls, so I don't know what to say to you!"
"Really? Didn't you have a girlfriend before? And I heard from Nancy that you have quite a few girls around you. How could you not know how to chat with girls?" Laura asked, puzzled.
"Don't listen to Nancy's nonsense. I've only had one girlfriend in my life!" James replied helplessly.
"Oh, I see!" Laura nodded and continued, "My company is doing quite well now. After Mr. Wilson invested a hundred million dollars, he also introduced a few partners to me. Given the current situation, I estimate that our company will turn a profit within a year."
"That's good!"
James smiled faintly, thinking to himself that Charles was very thorough, even introducing partners to Laura.
In today's world, connections were clearly more important than funds.
"I haven't properly thanked you for this. If it weren't for you bringing Mr. Wilson, my company might have gone bankrupt by now!" Laura said softly to James.
"There's no need to thank me. You're my fiancée; it's only right for me to help you!" James replied casually.
Hearing this, Laura's face turned red, and she didn't know how to respond to James.
At that moment, James's phone suddenly rang.
James took out his phone and saw that it was a call from Charles.
