Chapter 248 I'm Still a Student
Laura was totally caught off guard when she heard that.
It hit her then that Thalassa wasn't tagging along to make fun of her. Nope, Thalassa's fiancé, Leander Crowe, was coming too.
Just then, a sleek Land Rover SUV zoomed towards Thalassa, Elowen, and the rest of the crew.
With a sudden screech, the car came to a smooth stop right in front of Thalassa.
The Land Rover kicked up a ton of dust, but Thalassa and Elowen didn't seem to care and practically threw themselves at the car.
Laura and James stood off to the side, eyeing the Land Rover with mixed feelings.
Laura knew exactly what Thalassa was up to.
Thalassa knew James would be here today, so she made sure her fiancé showed up at just the right moment to outshine James and make Laura feel small.
Once the Land Rover stopped, a handsome guy in a black suit stepped out.
Thalassa rushed into his arms the second he got out, pouting, "Leander, you're so late! I've been waiting forever!"
"Sorry, babe, didn't mean to keep you waiting!" Leander said, all sweet.
"It's fine, I get it. These country roads are a pain," Thalassa giggled.
"Hey there!" Elowen and Dorian, who'd met Thalassa's fiancé before, greeted him warmly.
Leander turned to them with a smile, "Dorian, Elowen, you guys are here too?"
"Yep, Leander, I came just to see you!" Elowen replied, smiling.
Dorian grinned, "Leander, how's business? That company you got me to invest in is about to go public, and I'm rolling in it! Got any more hot tips for me?"
Elowen and Dorian's attitude towards Leander was a total 180 from how they treated James earlier.
When they saw James, they didn't say a word and just looked down on him.
But now, with Leander, they were all over him, like two eager puppies.
Thalassa looked super proud because she had planned everything perfectly.
She knew James would be here today, so she followed Laura to the station and had Leander wait nearby.
If Thalassa thought Leander could outshine James, she'd call him over; if not, she'd keep him hidden to avoid any embarrassment.
After all, Leander wasn't some rich kid but a self-made man.
But now, the comparison was crystal clear.
Next to Thalassa's fiancé, James didn't stand a chance in looks, style, or dress.
Plus, Leander was the VP of an investment company in Lumina City, pulling in over ten million dollars a year, which Thalassa figured James couldn't even come close to.
Before seeing James, Thalassa was worried that Leander might not outshine him.
She'd heard some rumors about James.
Word was, James knew the CEO of Golden Peak Investment Company and had roped him into investing two hundred million dollars in Laura's company, saving it from going under.
Thalassa figured if James had those kinds of connections, he must be something special.
But when she finally saw James, she realized she had nothing to worry about.
James wasn't some rich heir, and that rumor about him knowing the CEO of Golden Peak was probably just that—a rumor.
'Laura, even if you're prettier and more educated than me, so what? My fiancé is better than yours. For a woman, marrying a good husband is the most important thing!' Thalassa thought, eyeing Laura and James from a distance.
After chatting with Elowen and Dorian for a bit, Leander turned to Laura and James.
When he saw Laura, a look of amazement flashed in his eyes.
He'd heard Thalassa's sister was beautiful, but he didn't expect Laura to be this stunning, with a perfect figure, demeanor, and appearance.
But Leander was puzzled because he knew the guy standing next to Laura was her fiancé, James.
How could such a gorgeous woman be with such an ordinary guy?
Leander couldn't wrap his head around it.
"Laura, is this your first time meeting Leander?" Thalassa called out to Laura, looking smug.
Then she took Leander's arm and walked over to James and Laura, introducing them softly, "Laura, this is my fiancé, Leander. He's the vice president of Evergreen Investment Company. You've heard of Evergreen Investment Company, right?"
Laura was taken aback by Thalassa's words, then looked up at Leander with a hint of surprise in her eyes.
Evergreen Investment Company was one of the top investment firms in Lumina City, and for Leander to be its VP at such a young age was pretty impressive.
"Honey, this is my sister Laura. She runs a cosmetics company in Lumina City. You two should get to know each other!" Thalassa introduced Laura to Leander.
"Hello, Laura!" Leander greeted her with a smile.
"Hello!" Laura nodded, her expression neutral, not seeming too impressed by Leander.
"And this is?" Leander turned to James, looking a bit confused.
"This is Laura's fiancé, James Smith," Thalassa quickly replied.
"Oh, I see!" Leander nodded thoughtfully, then looked at James and asked, "Mr. Smith, what do you do for a living?"
"I'm still a student," James replied calmly.
"Ha ha ha!" Leander burst into laughter at James's words, clearly looking down on him.
Thalassa, Elowen, and the others joined in, laughing too.
