Chapter 55 Tricking Linda into a Hotel Room
Upon hearing Janet's words, James hesitated for a moment, unsure of her intentions.
"Do you or do you not?" Janet pressed, looking at James.
"No," James responded promptly, shaking his head.
"You're lying. Your eyes give you away," Janet said with a faint smile. She continued, "Even if you did, I wouldn't be angry with you. But stealing my nightgown is a different matter, isn't it?"
"Teacher Carter, I truly did not steal your nightgown!" James exclaimed in an unusually agitated manner.
Janet had intended to divert James' attention and extract more information, but realizing James wasn't falling for it, she abandoned further questioning.
"Alright, since it wasn't you who took it, I will let it go this time. You may leave." Janet gestured, waving James off.
"Alright." James breathed a sigh of relief upon Janet's decision to let him go. Then he turned and headed outside the dormitory.
"Oh, James, my friend's bar is opening the day after tomorrow. Don't forget to go and help out there," Janet reminded as James was leaving.
"Don't worry. I won't forget," James replied.
"Also, you can't tell anyone about today's incident or about me wearing that nightgown. If you do, you're in big trouble!" Janet added.
"Understood, I won't mention it to anyone," James replied helplessly before leaving Janet's dorm.
Alone in her room, Janet sat on the bed, gazing with her enticing eyes, lost in thought.
As James left Janet's dormitory, he let out a heavy sigh, his nervousness easing a bit. Despite inheriting a massive fortune and experiencing significant life changes, there was one thing James couldn't change: his inexplicable nervousness every time he encountered Janet.
Five minutes later, James returned to the classroom, coinciding with the break time, where classmates chatted away.
Seeing James return, Paul hurried over with a hint of concern. "James, what did Teacher Carter want from you?"
"Nothing much. She just asked me to help her move some things," James replied, avoiding divulging the recent incident.
Both Paul and Tyler knew that Janet had previously asked James to help move items, so they didn't doubt James' explanation.
"By the way, James, are you free after school today?" Paul suddenly asked.
"I'm free. So what?" James inquired.
"If you are, how about going to the bar tonight for some drinks?" Paul suggested mysteriously.
James felt puzzled as he had never been to a bar before due to financial constraints. Paul's sudden invitation left him perplexed.
"You and Jennifer broke up. I think you don't seem to be in a good mood recently, so I asked Evelyn to call out a few girls from their dormitory. At that time, let's get along and get to know each other!" Paul explained cheerfully.
James knew that Evelyn was a girl that Paul had been pursuing. James did not know whether Paul was in a relationship with Evelyn now.
"I'm not really keen on going to a bar. Maybe you and Evelyn can go," James hesitated, declining.
"I've already made plans with Evelyn. The other two single girls from her dorm will be there. The three of us will go, and I've heard that there is a stunning beauty named Sarah among them. I'll try to set you up. Maybe you two will hit it off!" Paul enthusiastically proposed.
Feeling compelled by Paul's enthusiasm, James reluctantly agreed, "Alright. I'll accompany you, but I'm not sure if Sarah will be interested in me!"
"How do you know Sarah won't like you?" Paul chuckled, then reached into his wallet, pulled out two thousand dollars and handed it to James.
James, taken aback by the money, looked puzzled. "Why are you giving me money?"
"Nowadays, girls like guys with money. You hold onto this and pay for the gathering tonight. When the girls see you footing the bill, it'll leave a positive impression!" Paul explained.
Upon receiving the two thousand dollars from Paul, James felt a rush of emotions. After a moment of hesitation, he quietly accepted the money.
"Paul, do you remember SuperSmith who gifted one million dollars on StreamVerse a few days ago?" A student sitting in front of Paul suddenly turned and asked.
James glanced up, recognizing the student as Fred, the most informed gossipmonger in their class. Fred was privy to school rumors. Even though some were fabricated, his information was generally considered credible.
"I remember. What about it?" Paul nodded in response to Fred's question.
"I know who SuperSmith is!" Fred said mysteriously.
The whole classroom leaned in upon hearing Fred's words.
"Fred, who is SuperSmith exactly?" a charming girl inquired curiously.
"SuperSmith is a student from the University of Lumina. But I'm unsure which class he's in." Fred said, "However, I heard SuperSmith plans to take Linda to a hotel room within three days and livestream in the university's forum!"
As Fred shared this information, James stood frozen, shocked. If what Fred said was true, it confirmed James' suspicions. Someone had indeed stolen his account, impersonated him, and fooled Linda into meeting up for a hotel encounter.
