Chapter 184 Why Don't You Go Find a Man?
Inside Stellar Lounge, Cynthia announced that all expenses tonight would be half off to make up for the incident between James and Yancy.
Hearing this, customers quickly called their friends, leading to a business boom.
Cynthia and the staff worked for nearly an hour to finally clear out the crowd.
"Cynthia, your bar's doing great," Janet said, pouring Cynthia a glass of red wine as she entered the private room.
"Thanks to you causing such a scene," Cynthia replied, taking the wine. "Janet, I never knew you were so formidable. Even Yancy's scared of you. If I'd known, I wouldn't have given Yancy ten percent of the shares!"
"Trying to figure out who I am?" Janet asked, lounging seductively on the sofa, swirling her wine.
"I'm not interested. If you don't want to tell me, asking won't help," Cynthia said calmly.
Janet smiled, brushing her hair back. "Do you know why I became friends with you?"
"No idea," Cynthia replied.
"Because it's relaxing being around you," Janet said with a smile.
"I'm not curious about your identity, but I'm curious about your relationship with James," Cynthia said, looking intrigued.
"My relationship with James?" Janet looked puzzled. "What relationship?"
"Don't try to fool me. I could clearly see how angry you were when James was being pushed around today. Plus, the way you looked at him was off—I've never seen you look at anyone like that before. So, what's the deal between you two? You didn't, uh, have some sort of… 'special' relationship, did you?" Cynthia asked with a smirk.
"Stop it. James is my student. I got him the part-time job here, so of course, I needed to help him," Janet quickly explained.
"No, the way you looked at him was definitely different," Cynthia insisted.
"You're overthinking. I just think James is a bit pitiful," Janet said.
"Pitiful? What's so pitiful about James?" Cynthia asked, puzzled.
"You don't know about school stuff, and it wouldn't help to tell you," Janet said calmly.
"Are you sure you have no feelings for James? If not, I might make a move. Don't get mad if I win him over," Cynthia teased, licking her lips.
"You have no interest in men, stop fooling around," Janet replied disdainfully.
"I'm really not into guys, but James is different. Sure, he's a bit down on his luck, but he's good-looking and has a great personality. If things were different, I wouldn't mind being with him at all," Cynthia said softly, analyzing her feelings.
"James is too young for you," Janet replied bluntly.
"Is he suitable for you then?" Cynthia asked with a smile.
"He's not suitable for me either," Janet said, shaking her head. "Anyway, how are things with your parents? Are they still pushing you to go on blind dates?"
"Yeah, but I told them I have a boyfriend, so they backed off," Cynthia said slowly.
"You have a boyfriend? Since when?" Janet asked, confused.
"I'm just making it up. I don't actually have one," Cynthia admitted, her eyes avoiding Janet's.
Cynthia didn't want Janet to know about her and James. She sensed Janet had feelings for him and didn't want to cause any tension.
"You should find a boyfriend. You can't stay single forever. What will you do when you have, you know, needs?" Janet said suggestively.
Cynthia suddenly thought of James and their moments together.
"Hey, I'm talking to you! Why are you daydreaming?" Janet shouted, frowning.
"I want to find someone I like, but I haven't met the right guy yet," Cynthia said. Then she tickled Janet's armpit, laughing. "Enough about me. You're twenty-seven. Why don't you find a man? Don't let that great figure go to waste!"
"How dare you tease me!" Janet dodged and reached out to tickle Cynthia back.
The room filled with laughter until Cynthia's phone rang.
"Hold on, I have a call!" Cynthia said, getting up to answer.
When she saw the caller ID, a strange look crossed her face. She glanced at Janet because it was Yancy, who Janet had just kicked out of the bar.
"Why are you looking at me? Answer the phone," Janet said calmly, fixing her clothes.
Cynthia hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Ms. Phillips, is this a good time to talk?" Yancy's nervous voice came through.
