Chapter 384 The Final Outcome
When Eldon brought up a re-vote, Matthew's face lit up with excitement. He knew a re-vote would totally work in his favor.
At such a crucial moment, who knows if one of those lawyers who supported James might suddenly change their mind!
"If no one objects, let's start the second round of voting. Same rules as before: minority follows the majority. Those who think Mr. Smith should inherit Mr. Willard's estate, raise your hand!" Eldon announced to the crowd, looking dead serious.
"Mr. Soto!" Charles suddenly called out just as Eldon finished speaking.
Eldon turned to Charles, confused, and asked, "Mr. Wilson, got something to say?"
"When Willard was making his will, he told me that if there were any issues with the inheritance and the lawyers couldn't agree, I'd have the right to vote too. So, I should've been part of this vote!" Charles said, his face blank.
Eldon was stunned for a moment, and everyone else in the room looked just as shocked, their faces full of confusion.
"You... you get to vote too?" Matthew suddenly stood up and yelled at Charles, "You're not even part of the legal team! What gives you the right to vote?"
"Willard told me this before he passed. There are twelve lawyers on the team, and if something like this happens, I can use my voting rights!" Charles replied to Matthew, looking very serious.
"You say you have the right to vote, and we're just supposed to believe you? Is there anything in the will about this? Got any proof that Willard told you this?" Matthew shouted at Charles, clearly agitated.
He wasn't stupid; it was obvious Charles was trying to help James. If Charles joined the vote, Matthew would definitely lose his inheritance rights. The result would change from six to six to seven to six, and Matthew would be out.
"I've been by Willard's side for twenty years. You think I'd lie about this?" Charles turned to Matthew, shouting angrily.
"How am I supposed to know if you're lying? There's no proof that Willard told you this, so I don't agree with you voting. What if you're in cahoots with James?" Matthew shouted back, indignant.
"Mr. Edwards, I remember Willard indeed said such things to Mr. Wilson." Eldon's words shocked everyone present.
Even Charles turned to Eldon, surprised.
"Willard not only told Mr. Wilson this but also told me the same thing. So, I believe Mr. Wilson is right. When our legal team can't agree, he has the right to vote!"Eldon replied with a blank look on his face.
Matthew was floored, never expecting Eldon to back Charles.
"Mr. Soto, what's going on? Are you in on this with Charles?" Matthew yelled at Eldon.
"Mr. Edwards, our job is to help the company with legal stuff and make sure Willard's will is followed. Mr. Wilson is also an executor of this will, so when there are issues, he gets to vote too," Eldon said, still looking blank.
"What is this? Are you all teaming up against me? You're not following Willard's will at all. Willard, my grandfather, paid you all so much and trusted you. I'm his family, and you're siding with this outsider?" Matthew was completely losing it, shouting as he pointed an angry finger at James.
"Mr. Edwards, it's because Willard trusted us that we have to carry out his will fairly. You have no say in this will, so stop messing with our work. Otherwise, I'll have to ask you to leave!" Eldon shouted back, dead serious.
Matthew was stunned, just standing there, not knowing what to do. He had planned everything but never thought Charles and Eldon would end up helping James.
"Alright, let's start the second vote. This time, Charles will join. Those who support Mr. Smith inheriting the estate, raise your hand!" Eldon called out to the team, looking serious.
"I agree!" Charles raised his hand without a second thought.
"I agree too!" Eldon was the next to raise his hand.
What happened next left Matthew speechless. He never expected all the lawyers to raise their hands at once.
This time, the result wasn't seven to six but a crushing thirteen to zero!
Matthew was in shock, his face showing utter disbelief.
"What's going on? Weren't you all against it before? Why are you all supporting James now? What's the deal?" Matthew stood up and shouted at the lawyers.
The lawyers who had been bribed by Matthew just looked down, not saying a word. They weren't stupid; they knew James already had six votes, and with Charles joining, it was clear he was there to help James. So, the final result would definitely be James inheriting.
If that was the case, James would still be their boss, and they weren't about to offend him now.
Seeing this result, Charles smiled with satisfaction. No matter what, his efforts had paid off.
