Chapter 268 None of You Understand James!

When Isolde started talking, Laura, who was behind the wheel, shot her a sharp look and snapped, "Mom, what are you even saying?"

Isolde's face turned serious. "James never touched that vase, and he's no antique expert. So how did he know it was fake?"

"What if James just knows a lot about antiques?" Laura's tone softened a bit, realizing Isolde might have a point.

Isolde sneered, "Does he look like someone who knows about antiques to you?"

"Mom! Don't be ridiculous." Laura's eyes widened, and she shouted angrily.

"Why? I'm just stating the facts." Isolde felt annoyed seeing Laura always defending James.

She turned to James and asked, "James, how did you figure out that antique was fake?"

James was caught off guard but replied calmly, "I really don't know much about antiques. I just got lucky."

He definitely wasn't going to spill the truth right now, so he managed to shut down the conversation.

Isolde's face lit up with a smug grin after hearing James's words, and she turned to Laura, "Laura, did you hear that? Huh?"

Laura sighed, "Alright, even if James was just lucky and guessed the vase was fake, he still did us a huge favor, didn't he? Isn't it a bit much to talk to him like that? Thanks to James, we don't have to worry about that twenty million dollars!"

Isolde and Joe felt a twinge of embarrassment hearing this.

They knew they owed James for getting them out of a tight spot, but they still looked down on him and didn't thank him.

"I know you both look down on James, but isn't this a bit too much? Leander helped you with a small favor, and you were so grateful. But when James does something huge, you just brush it off!" Laura vented her frustration at Isolde and Joe.

She had hoped that after James helped them so much today, her parents' attitude towards him would change.

But they just ignored it. Not only did they not treat James better, but they also became even more harsh and sarcastic. Laura couldn't take it anymore and spoke up.

"Laura, don't talk to your mom like that. We are grateful for James's help today, but we're family, so there's no need to say 'thank you.' Don't take it personally!" Joe quickly tried to smooth things over with a smile when he saw Laura was really upset.

"Yeah, Laura, chill out!" Isolde realized she might've gone too far earlier, so she tried to calm Laura down.

Laura took a deep breath, glanced at James, and kept quiet.

After all, they were her parents. She didn't want to make Joe and Isolde feel bad.

James just sat there quietly, looking indifferent. He was used to this kind of stuff.

Twenty minutes later, they finally got back to the hotel.

The next day, Laura woke up around ten in the morning. After she got ready, she headed to Joe and Isolde's room.

She found Joe on the couch watching TV, while Isolde was in the bathroom putting on makeup.

"Laura, your dad and I need to go see your grandpa. If you don't have plans, why not spend the day with James?" Isolde said softly while doing her makeup.

Maybe because of what happened last night, her attitude towards James had softened a bit.

"Should I go too?" Laura hesitated, looking a bit hopeful.

"Normally, we should take you since it's been a while. But James... so..." Isolde trailed off, worried Laura would get mad.

But Laura got the hint. Isolde was worried James would embarrass them.

So Laura didn't push it and sat down next to Joe to watch TV.

Joe said, "Laura, they're all doing better than us and are pretty proud. If they see James, who knows how they'll mock him. Your mom didn't mean anything by it. Don't take it to heart."

"I know." Laura nodded, feeling a bit helpless.

"By the way, how's your company doing?" Joe asked.

"Last time, James helped me to make Mr. Wilson invest two hundred million dollars in my company, so things are going well now!" Laura mentioned James's help, hoping to improve his image in her parents' eyes.

"James is fabulous, knowing someone like Charles!" Isolde said in a mocking tone.

"Yeah! He's great! He is not as useless as you think." Laura was thrilled to hear Isolde finally say something nice about James.

Isolde sneered and didn't say anything more.
