Chapter 76 Disappointed Linda
Linda was wearing a low-cut tank top, looking quite alluring. Her bare legs were exposed to the air, paired with white shorts, making her look extremely attractive. She was holding several shopping bags, probably just back from the supermarket. Perhaps because the bags were heavy, Linda seemed to be struggling a bit.
After a moment of hesitation, James quickly walked up to her and said with a smile, "Linda, let me help you carry those!"
Upon hearing James, Linda turned her head and gave James a fierce glare without saying a word. Then, she simply walked away, completely ignoring James.
James stood there awkwardly. After all, James had been silently protecting Linda and worried about her. But in return, he received only cold looks and indifference from her. No one would appreciate this feeling.
Just as Linda was about to enter the gates, the roar of a car engine suddenly came from afar. A black Honda abruptly stopped at the entrance. Kevin hurriedly got out of the car, looking flustered.
When James saw Kevin, he instinctively froze. He didn’t expect Terry to resolve the issue this quickly--less than half an hour.
James felt a bit panicked, worried that if Kevin saw him, he would come over and talk to him, which might expose his identity to Linda.
So, James stood still for a moment, unsure of what to do. Although James had told Linda before that he was SuperSmith out of concern for her safety, he had no intention of revealing his identity, nor did he want Linda to know about his connections with Kevin.
After Kevin got out of the car, he walked straight into the gates, not noticing James in his haste. James hesitated for a moment and then hid behind a car.
"Linda!"
Kevin suddenly called out loudly. Linda stopped upon hearing her name, then looked back at Kevin. Linda did not know that Kevin was the same Mr. Martinez who always opposed her on the StreamVerse Livestream, but she recognized Mr. Weaver, who was with Kevin.
Seeing Mr. Weaver made Linda panic, and she instinctively looked towards the neighborhood entrance where James was just a moment ago. She didn’t expect him to leave so soon so she pinned her hopes on him. However, when Linda saw James behind the car, she froze, her expression disdainful.
From her angle, she could clearly see James hiding behind the car, while Kevin and the others couldn't.
"Yesterday, when Rex was getting beaten, James just hid in the living room and didn't say a word. Now, James is hiding again at the sight of Mr. Weaver. “I must have been blind to have ever considered to be friends with James!" Linda let out a deep sigh of disappointment before turning around and walking directly towards Kevin and his group.
"You must be Linda, right?"
Kevin sized Linda up and down and asked her softly.
"Yes, I am Linda. Last night, I had already made up my mind. As long as you and your friends leave me and my friend alone, I am willing to sign a contract with Mr. Martinez's livestream guild!" Linda, feeling like a weak woman who was no match for these people, could only back down for now.
"Linda, I believe you might have misunderstood." Kevin looked at Linda with a grin and continued, "I am Mr. Martinez from StreamVerse Livestream!"
"You are Mr. Martinez?" Linda was utterly puzzled upon hearing Kevin's words.
"Yes, I am Mr. Martinez!" Kevin nodded gently, then looked at Linda and said, "I think there might have been some misunderstanding between us. Sending someone to find you before was indeed presumptuous of me. I apologize to you!" After saying this, Kevin bowed deeply in front of Linda.
Linda, looking at the man in front of her, was utterly astonished. She couldn't fathom why Kevin, who had sent people to threaten her just the night before, now seemed like a completely different person, coming to apologize to her in person!
Mr. Weaver and the others, after seeing Kevin apologize, also began to bow and apologize to Linda.
"What exactly are you all up to?" Linda exclaimed in deep confusion.
"Linda, we mean no harm. We simply came to apologize to you. If you had told us earlier that you knew Mr. Campbell, we would’ve never dared to trouble you in the first place!" Kevin chuckled and said.
"Mr. Campbell?" Linda was now thoroughly bewildered as she had no idea what Kevin was talking about!
"Miss Linda, here is fifty thousand dollars. I heard that my men injured your friend yesterday, so this is for medical expenses. You can do whatever you want on StreamVerse Livestream from now on; I won't interfere with you anymore, nor will I force you to sign with me!" Kevin handed the fifty thousand dollars to Linda as he spoke. Before Linda could react, Kevin and his group turned and left.
Moments later, the black Honda sedan disappeared from the gates.
Linda's face was full of confusion holding the fifty thousand dollars.
"Could it be Rex's doing?" Upon realizing this, Linda muttered to herself.
There weren't many people aware of the conflicts between Linda and Kevin, just James and Rex.
When James saw Kevin approaching with his group, he immediately hid.
Linda was certain it wasn't James who helped her; if it were, he would have stepped out to take credit by now! If not James, then it had to be Rex. After all, when they parted ways yesterday, Rex had said he would investigate who was threatening Linda.
Thinking about this, a sense of warmth and gratitude towards Rex welled up in Linda's heart, deepening her appreciation for him.
She had been unsure about becoming Rex’s girlfriend, but she now had an answer in her heart. Rex was not only handsome, wealthy, with a great personality, but most importantly, he would step up to protect her when needed, unlike James, who just hid behind a car at the sight of Kevin and his group. This thought made Linda find the whole thing quite amusing.
At first, Linda had a good impression of James. Despite his financial struggles, he had a good character. Now, it seemed that no matter how good someone seemed on the outside, their true nature could still be a mystery.
