Chapter 392 The Cause of Parents' Death
James never thought his parents' deaths would have anything to do with Rockefeller.
So when Charles dropped that bombshell, James couldn't keep it together.
He froze, spun around, and locked eyes with Charles.
James had always had a ton of questions about his parents' deaths. It was just too fishy, and a car accident? Really?
Their deaths turned James's world upside down.
He'd always wanted to know how they died and why no one in the Smith family ever talked about it afterward.
The Smiths were pretty well-off. They weren't Rockefeller-rich, but they were doing better than most.
James's parents ran the show back then, handling most of the family business. They weren't exactly popular because they didn't put up with the Smith family's nonsense, but everyone respected James's dad too much to say anything.
When his parents died, the rest of the family pounced on the inheritance, and James became the black sheep. He had to leave and fend for himself.
James had his suspicions that the Smith family might be involved, but he was just a twelve-year-old kid trying to survive. He couldn't dig into it back then.
It wasn't until he got his inheritance that he hired Terry to look into his parents' deaths.
"What do you mean by that?" James demanded, storming up to Charles.
"Mr. Smith, no need to get all riled up," Charles said calmly.
"Cut the crap. I'm asking you, what happened to my parents? Why did you say their deaths were tied to Rockefeller?"
James could usually keep his cool, but not about this.
"Mr. Smith, your father's name was Milan Smith, and your mother's name was Arabella Pear, right?" Charles asked softly.
"That's right!" James hadn't heard their names in so long, it felt strange.
"From what I know, your parents' deaths are likely connected to Rockefeller," Charles said, looking James in the eye. "But I haven't nailed down exactly how they died or if the Rockefellers were involved."
"If you don't know for sure, why say their deaths are linked to Rockefeller? Are you trying to use this to get me to help you take them down?" James shouted.
His parents' deaths were a raw wound, and he couldn't stand the thought of Charles using it to manipulate him.
"Mr. Smith, you're my boss now. Why would I lie to you?" Charles quickly explained, then continued, "I've already told you about the Rockefellers. They're mainly run by the Three Elders, who are the real shot-callers. Below them are the Nine Kings..."
"I'm not here for a history lesson. What do they have to do with my parents' deaths? Spill it!" James cut him off, glaring and clearly agitated.
"Mr. Smith, let me finish, and you'll see how they are connected to your parents' deaths," Charles said calmly.
"Fine, go on." James took a deep breath, his teeth clenched.
"The Rockefellers' business spans three continents, each overseen by one of the Three Elders. Below each of them are three deputies, known as the Nine Kings. Then there are various managers scattered across different countries and cities, like Phoenix City and Dreamscape City. There are so many managers, it's impossible to count them all." Charles explained patiently.
"And then?" James asked, still glaring at Charles.
"When Terry looked into your parents' deaths, he found that the last call your father made before he died was to Lowell Warren, the head of the Rockefellers' Phoenix City branch."
Charles said directly.
"Lowell?" James was taken aback. He figured he had heard that name before.
"Besides that last call, your father had multiple calls with Lowell before he died. So, if you really want to dig into your parents' deaths, you need to find Lowell. As the head of the Rockefellers in Phoenix City, Lowell is a ghost, unavailable for ordinary people. But your father kept a close contact with him, which indicated there must be something between your father and the Rockefeller. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to reach Lowell." Charles said seriously, looking at James.
"Can you get in touch with Lowell now? Can you find him and ask about my father?" James asked excitedly.
"Mr. Smith, you're underestimating the Rockefellers. It's not just Lowell; I can't even track down people several levels below him. The Rockefellers' leaders keep their identities under wraps. They might seem like small business owners, but behind the scenes, they run all the Rockefellers' business in the city," Charles said with a smile.
"Then how do you know about Lowell?" James asked, frowning.
"Because Lowell retired five years ago, and his daughter, Kennedy Warren, took over his position. But no one knows what Kennedy looks like, so finding Lowell and Kennedy is nearly impossible," Charles said slowly.
James was stunned.
He never expected that the lead on his parents' deaths, which he had finally found, would be cut off like this.
