Chapter 36 Jennifer's Target
"Mr. Jackson, you just stated that this individual is a patron of your establishment. Thus, you have no authority to expel him."
"And what if he isn't a patron of your establishment? Would you then have the authority to remove him?"
Seeing that the professional woman did not intervene, the petite beauty continued to brazenly shout at Mr. Jackson.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Jackson couldn't help but pause, a look of confusion on his face.
After all, if one didn’t dining at the Moonlight Garden, there wasn't much else to do.
"Miss Hall, what exactly do you mean by that statement?"
Mr. Jackson questioned with a perplexed expression.
"I know this person; he's just a poor guy who makes his living by delivering meals. Surely such a person wouldn't have the means to dine at your Moonlight Garden."
The petite beauty exclaimed excitedly.
Mr. Jackson couldn't help but turn to James, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.
"Yes, judging by this lad's attire, he appears destitute; he couldn't possibly afford to dine at the Moonlight Garden."
"I believe this lad must be here to seek someone or for some other purpose?"
"Even if he's here to find someone, we can't allow him in; it would disrupt everyone's dining experience!"
As the surrounding customers observed James' impoverished appearance, murmurs began to circulate.
Upon hearing the discussions around her, the petite beauty seemed even more audacious, glaring, and demanding, "Mr. Jackson, I suspect that this person may very well be here to steal from your establishment. Quickly, have him removed!"
At these words, the customers in the restaurant became visibly tense, and some were even checking their belongings nervously.
At this point, Mr. Jackson's expression turned grim. If James was indeed here to commit theft, as the petite beauty suggested, then the restaurant manager, he would bear the responsibility!
"You have no idea that I am not here to dine, nor do you have the right to accuse me of stealing!" James coldly addressed the petite beauty.
"You, a mere delivery person, do you really have the means to dine in such a place?" The petite beauty derisively chuckled.
"Whether or not I can afford to dine here is my own business. However, you have no authority to dictate whether I can dine here or to accuse me of theft without evidence."
James maintained a remarkably composed demeanor as he spoke to the petite beauty.
Seeing James' confident demeanor, the petite beauty's eyes betrayed a hint of panic.
Deep down, she knew that her words so far had been mere speculation, lacking any substantial evidence.
Now that James challenged her to provide proof, she found herself lacking.
"Nancy, let's just drop this matter, shall we?" The professional woman interjected, hoping to defuse the situation.
"No, this pauper surely cannot afford to be here for a meal!"
The petite beauty persisted, pointing at James.
"Miss Hall, if you can provide evidence proving that this person is not here to dine at our establishment, I will have the security escort him out right now!"
Mr. Jackson stepped forward respectfully and addressed the petite beauty.
Upon hearing Mr. Jackson's words, the petite beauty frowned in frustration, realizing that she had no evidence to back her claims.
"If you require evidence, I can provide it!"
At that moment, a masculine voice rang out from the crowd.
Upon hearing the voice, James couldn't help but turn to look behind him, only to see Michael and Jennifer emerge from the crowd.
"Who are you?" Mr. Jackson, who did not know Michael, inquired with confusion.
"My identity is not important, what is important is who he is!"
Michael stated as he walked towards James with Jennifer by his side.
"Who is he?"
Mr. Jackson inquired further, intrigued.
"He's James, a student at our Lumina University and also my classmate. I know him well; he supports himself mainly delivering meals at our school. He couldn't possibly afford to dine at Moonlight Garden."
Michael spoke disdainfully.
Upon hearing Michael's words, the onlookers began discussing among themselves.
If it was just the petite beauty claiming James couldn't afford to dine here, some doubts lingered. However, with two people making the same claim, doubts regarding the petite beauty's earlier statements gained some credence.
Indeed, Michael and Jennifer couldn't afford to dine at Moonlight Garden themselves. They happened to be here today for a friend's birthday party.
They had not expected to run into James here.
Last time at Azure Pavilion, James had embarrassed Michael, who had been waiting for an opportunity to get his revenge.
Now, Michael saw that the opportunity had arrived!
Michael believed that not even he himself would dare to dine at Moonlight Garden. Last time, James had spent a whopping seventy thousand dollars at the Azure Pavilion; he surely couldn't afford to spend it here now.
"Mr. Jackson, if you doubt my word, I can have my girlfriend come forward; she's James' ex-girlfriend, and I believe her testimony holds more weight!"
Seeing that Mr. Jackson remained silent, Michael continued.
"That's right, I am the ex-girlfriend of this pauper!"
Upon hearing Michael's statement, Jennifer, very cooperative, stepped forward.
Witnessing this scene, the expressions on the faces of the onlookers became noticeably surprised.
Who would have expected that James' ex-girlfriend to come forward to denounce him?
The petite beauty, observing Jennifer's stance, smiled self-satisfied.
"When we were together, one of the main reasons I broke up with him was because of his poverty, so destitute that he couldn't even secure basic sustenance. See those shoes on his feet? He picked them up while delivering meals on the street!"
"And endlessly delivering meals to others, unable to afford a decent meal for himself, often eating leftover scraps. Do you truly believe that such a destitute individual could afford to dine at Moonlight Garden?"
Jennifer spoke sharply and scornfully, making no effort to spare James' feelings.
If the words of Michael and the petite beauty lacked credibility, then Jennifer, as James' ex-girlfriend, certainly had more legitimacy.
At this moment, the onlookers directed scornful gazes toward James.
James, on the other hand, maintained a calm demeanor while looking at Jennifer, his expression one of resignation.
James was puzzled as to how he had fallen into such poverty during his time with Jennifer. Couldn't she see this clearly?
James had tirelessly delivered meals, all to earn money to cater to Jennifer's endless vanity.
Even if James went without food for three days, he would ensure he bought Jennifer the designer bags and lipsticks she desired.
Without Jennifer, James wouldn't have ended up in his current situation.
Although Jennifer left him because of his poverty, James could accept that.
After all, it was all too common in this world to favor the rich and despise the poor.
However, James couldn't understand why Jennifer seemed to target him at every turn after their breakup.
