Chapter 278 Useless Fiancé
James's eyes flashed with a hint of anger when he heard Vivienne's words. He hadn't even said anything, yet Vivienne kept pushing his buttons.
"Vivienne, you better shut up!" Lily snapped at her.
"Why should I? Did I say anything wrong? Wasn't he a loser?" Vivienne sneered, her tone dripping with arrogance.
Laura got pissed. She stepped forward, glaring at Vivienne. "What do you mean by that?"
"None of your business. Do you think I'm hinting at you?" Vivienne replied, almost playfully.
"Yeah, Miss Hall, don't take it personally. We never mentioned your fiancé, right?" Lyle chimed in mockingly.
Laura glared at Vivienne and Lyle, her face red with anger, but she didn't know how to respond. Nancy, seeing them ganging up on Laura, got anxious and instinctively looked at James.
But James seemed indifferent, just standing there without reacting. Nancy felt both angry and disappointed. She shouted at him, "James, are you even a man? Laura is being bullied! How can you just stand there, doing nothing?"
James looked at Nancy without a word.
"Why don't you stand up for Laura? James, you really disappoint me!" Nancy shouted, exasperated.
"What do you want me to do? Don't you also think I'm useless?" James replied calmly.
Nancy was at a loss for words.
Vivienne and Lyle burst into laughter.
"Did I hear that right? This guy actually admitted he's useless," Lyle said, jealousy evident in his voice. He couldn't stand that someone like James could get engaged to a woman like Laura, while he had to settle for Vivienne, who was inferior to Laura in both looks and figure. So he took this chance to humiliate James.
Outside the piano room at the ArtScape Center, the onlookers laughed, mocking James. No normal guy would admit he was useless.
"Laura, James, don't mind them. Let's go!" Lily felt responsible for today's mess. Seeing so many people mocking James, trampling on his dignity, she wanted to leave quickly with James and Laura.
Laura hesitated for a moment, then turned to leave.
"James, you're the most useless man I've ever seen. How can there be a man like you in this world?" Nancy shouted at James as she saw Laura and Lily wanting to leave, then turned and walked downstairs.
But after taking a few steps, they found James still standing there while looking at those mocking him.
"James, why are you still standing there?" Nancy shouted, her expression furious.
"Yeah, James, let's go!" Lily also seemed displeased with James's behavior today and said with a frown. Vivienne and Lyle kept humiliating Laura, and James hadn't said a word. Such a boyfriend was really disappointing.
Lily wasn't materialistic and wouldn't look down on James for being poor, but his behavior made her understand why Nancy looked down on him.
James, as if not hearing Nancy and Lily, stepped forward and asked Lyle calmly, "Are you a student of Richard Clayderman?"
"That's right. You know Richard Clayderman, huh?" Lyle said with a mocking smile.
"Richard Clayderman, an internationally renowned pianist, released his first album called 'Ballade pour Adeline,' with the single 'Mariage d'amour' becoming famous worldwide. But I didn't expect his student to be such an uncultured person. It's really a disgrace to him." James looked at Lyle and sighed softly.
Everyone was stunned upon hearing James's words. Those who had mocked James were also dumbfounded, looking at him in astonishment.
"How does James know these things?" Lily exclaimed with wide eyes.
In fact, what James said was known to anyone involved in piano, but as an ordinary college student, James shouldn't have known these things.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Do you even know anything about piano? Cut the crap," Vivienne said disdainfully.
In her view, James's words were just for show.
James ignored Vivienne and continued to speak to Lyle, "Although Richard Clayderman is famous worldwide, as his student, you played 'Mariage d'amour' so poorly. If Richard Clayderman heard it, he'd probably be furious."
Lyle was stunned by James's words. They hit Lyle's sore spot because he knew James was right and had no reason to refute him.
